Despite the emphasis often placed on the Knight's capacity for physical violence, the true soul of the Lady and Knight dynamic lies the Knight protecting the Lady from harm, destroying her enemies, increasing her power, and advancing her interests, in ways she is socially proscribed from doing, as well as in his role as a respected and skilled subordinate, who could likely find a place with another patron, but is too devoted to do so.
Therefore, in an Early Modern or later setting, the true way to do a Lady and Knight couple is a wealthy woman having a passionate but unconsummated* emotional affair with her accountant and/or her attorney.
