Knocking on the door, Olivia was more than nervous to be at Nina’s place. They hadn’t spoken much, but she hoped that they could salvage any remaining friendship they had and blossom it again. A tinge of fear rattled her stomach before settling as the door opened, leaving Liv with an anxious smile awaiting Nina.
Title - I’ll Remember
Location: Carmichael Family Plot
Scene: Tripp’s Funeral
“These wounds won’t seem to heal.
This pain is just too real.
There’s just so much that time cannot erase.” - My Immortal, Evanescence
She stood away from her family. She couldn’t face them, not yet. Not until she felt comfortable with Tobias and Tess, and not until she found her own way to deal with Tripp’s death.
As Tripp’s casket was being laid down, Liv couldn’t help but think of the man’s words. The sweet man who lived to make the Carmichael’s feel like a family was now the unfortunate soul who died for that very family. Seeing his body, lifeless yet free of pain, she played their best encounters through her mind; ones that she had almost forgotten. I’ll remember, she told herself.
There was the night of stargazing - just the two of them under a sea of stars, completely lost in their thoughts and devoid of the fickle hysteria of the world that being in a Mob family created; surreal would have been an understatement. It was that night he told her, “You’re so much more than your crown, Liv. Don’t forget that, okay? I know everyone doesn’t see it, but you will show them.” I’ll remember
Always being a willing participant during tea-time, it was Tripp who brought up the thought of becoming a beauty queen. Liv really hadn’t thought that she was good at much, but Tripp thought that she’d be a great competitor.
“Those girls are mean though, Tripp!”
“Well, you’re the meanest girl I know, so you’ll win!”
“Hey! I’m no-”
“You’re also the prettiest and smartest girl I know too. You have to try, Liv! You can do anything you want, remember that!”
I’ll remember.
Nobody knew it, but Tripp was one of the few people that Liv felt the most comfortable with. Whenever she had a problem, she would talk to him. Quite often he saw past her front - the one of the self-absorbed flashy showgirl, and saw the real her; dorky, somewhat shy, sometimes broken but absolutely compassionate. She’d let him see her without makeup. She’d binge-watch Netflix with him when they were free. She’d even shop with him whenever he was trying a new style, which was quite often for him. Through all of that, he was also her rock when Adam died; he was the one who made her get out of bed. He had looked at her with such fierce eyes, like an inferno that tried to light another one in hers. “You can sit here and cry all day, Liv, but you’re not going to bring him back. You need to get up and you need to live. You’re Olivia Carmichael: The meanest, prettiest, smartest, and strongest, girl that I know. You said you’d remember that!”, he bit at her as the words he had called her growing up began to circulate around her head until she finally got to her feet. I’ll remember.
Even now, as this casket becomes swallowed by the very soil you used to sit on, I remember the times we shared. The laughs, the cries, and even the arguments. Tripp Henderson, you were so much more than a family friend. You were a confidante, a companion, a brother. I wish that I had made you open up to me as you did me to you. But despite not knowing much about you, I still feel that I knew you, and I’ll never forget. I promise Tripp, I’ll never forget anything you’ve told me nor anything you’ve taught me. And I’ll never forget you.
Patrick smirked at her compliment and when she blushed as she tried to play it off. He had a surprised smile on his face at Liv’s words and didn’t get a chance to reply as she changed the subject but still gave him an opening. Patrick leaned a little bit closer and smiled locking eyes with her. “Glad you approve, I aim to please.” He said backing off as they walked towards a table and ordered a chocolate Manhattan. Patrick eyed her for a moment before shrugging a little. “I don’t know, I guess it’s a side effect for being raised in a place filled, for the most part by women.” He explaine with a smile, he was always a little on the edge when it came to talking abut his past, torn between openly and proudly talking about it or giving vague answers.
“Okay, I’m really going to need you to stop getting so close, I’m getting too flustered.”, Olivia replied the best she could, especially with such a handsome face in front of hers. Though, Olivia’s actual interest got piqued as Patrick spoke about his chivalry; so he was raised by women? That certainly explains a lot. “If you don’t mind me asking, how was that? Did you just have your mom and siblings?”, she questioned curiously. Truth be told, she had always wondered about Patrick’s story. He always seemed to have a soft spot despite looking like a stone bodyguard. She eyed him, wanting to see his face while he told his story..if he did.
They are not right. They just don’t know you like I do. If they aren’t willing to see it…than fuck them, for now. You got your own pain to deal with. There is nothing to hold against you because you are only trying to help. Tobias knows this but he probably isn’t…showing it how he means too. He’s hurting, Liv, hurting worse than we’ve ever seen him. The way you yearn to help him shows how unselfish you are in these situations. Okay?
It’s okay if it takes time because in that time I’ll always be here to remind you how amazing you are as a person. And. I love you and I know. That’s why I hate seeing you hurting like this because all you want to do is help.
Tessa and Tobias are just in a hard place right now. When people like them hurt like that they don’t take things the way they should, they get defensive. Than all that pent up frustration comes out at the first person that provides the opportunity. You got the shit end of the stick. You’re not self-absorbed when it comes to us, we know that. It’s just…hard. You know this. You…went through something a lot similar to this. But it’s not like they’ll understand ‘cause they are feeling like only they know the pain. Which is kind of true cause every person has a different bond with everyone they meet. Don’t let it get to you. Just. Just keep reminding them that you’re there and don’t hold this against them, ‘cause they’ll feel bad for it later. You’re so much more than a spoiled little princess. You are a loving sister that wouldn’t hesitate to kill for her family. That’s stronger than a fight with someone, no matter how hurtful.
You’re Olivia fucking Carmichael. And as much as someone hurts you, you still care about helping them. And don’t you dare forget that.
I really wish I could believe that Nic..But, maybe everyone’s right...and I would never hold it against them, but they wouldn’t be wrong to hold it against me.
I love you more than words will ever describe, you know that right? I just-I’m not going to see what you see. At least not right now.
I have zero problems with that either, sissy. As long as you plan to enjoy it with me.
Only sometimes? I must be loosing my touch. Confrontational? Hmm. I’d say sometimes but you usually mean good but thanks to the lovely Carmichael genes it can come off the wrong way if the person doesn’t understand how you are. Why, did someone try to say it was a bad thing? Because how you confront things gets shit done.
I might as well, seems like you and this bottle are the only people who like me much right now.
Oh shut up, you know what I mean. And I just...I got into a fight with Tessa earlier and she said some really hurtful things that just got me thinking. And then I was talking to Tobias, and I..I don’t know. I feel like shit because I just want to help but I feel so useless, and I get so passionate about everything that I say things and everyone thinks I’m just trying to make it about me. Everyone acts like I’m so vapid and one-sided, like I don’t care about my family when my heart literally hurts every time something happens to one of us. Everyone thinks I’m this self-absorbed witch who doesn’t think about others and I try so hard, so hard Nic, to show how much I care and it just never comes off the right way. I’m tired of being the stupid naive spoiled little princess that everyone thinks I am. Like is that all I ever be?
He was like my brother. And I hated him before he died. Because he betrayed that trust. You know what I’m feeling, but you have no idea what this feels like. You were in love with Adam. You guys were on great terms. Tripp though? I despised him for what he did. Do you know what it feels like, Liv? Do you know what it feels like to hate your best friend that was literally like your brother? Do you know what it feels like to hate your best friend and then see him dead in front of you? Do you know what it feels like to hold a limp body in your arms and know that that person is not coming back? Do you know what that feels like? You know loss, but you don’t know any of that. And don’t tell me you do because you don’t. I am not downplaying your loss. You just don’t understand.
Come at me like that again Olivia, and I swear the only person you’re going to have worry about hulking out is me. I don’t care that you’re his sister.
First of all, when did I ever fucking say that you have no idea what it feels like to lose your best friend? I didn’t, so do me a favor and open your fucking ears. I never once mentioned Adam, because I was talking about Tripp. Like always though, you have to make things about you. It’s all about the fucking Olivia Carmichael show, and how she lost her boyfriend and life just fucking sucks. I fucking know he grew up with all of you, but his best friend was Tobias. Who is obviously going to feel a lot fucking worse. You’re right though, I don’t care about how any of you feel besides him. He’s my main priority because at the end of the day, I’m the one who goes home with him. Not you and not your fucking mother, I do. So take your Fireball and your tears, and shove them up your pretentious ass.
Wow, Tessa, wow. That’s really what you think of me? From day one, I’ve been in your guys’ corner...I really thought you were different, and you still treat me just like everyone else.
And by the way, I wasn’t making it about me. You’re the one who literally said he clearly feels worse than we do and I was just making the comparison that I know how he feels. Excuse the fuck out of me for making the point that he doesn’t have to feel this way alone. Excuse me the fuck out of me for caring about my brother. I have my flaws, Tess, but I would never try to downplay my own brother’s feelings like you just did mine; I’m am not so self-absorbed as you think to do that. I used to think mother was crazy for not liking you, but now I’m starting to see why she feels that way. Thanks, Tess, have a great fucking life with Tobias.
