There were no nice men in Montreal?
OCTOBER 5, 2018
So I’m on a Skam Italia rewatch and I just finished the scene where Marti comes out to Gio, and it got me thinking about how different it is from the original.
Now, I know what you’re thinking: what do you mean different? It’s one of the most similar scenes! And it is… if we only look at the dialog. But, like Skam Italia has done with many other scenes, what changes here is the mood, the way the characters are feeling.
Of course, Marti and Isak act more or less on the same way: they’re really fucking nervous, and that’s it.
What’s truly interesting though, is the difference between Gio’s and Jonas’ reactions.
I feel like, while Jonas is truly unbothered by Isak coming out to him, Gio is not. He’s desperately trying to be, but he can’t contain the happiness.
There’s a moment -when he thinks it’s him Marti has crush on- where he’s really worried (not because it would be a problem to him, he simply doesn’t want to break Marti’s heart and damage their friendship), but after that’s cleared up it’s all big smiles from him. You can literally see him beaming, not being able to stop himself from smiling, almost getting teary-eyed. Because he’s relieved to finally know what’s going on with his best friend, because he’s happy that he trusts him with something so important, because he’s proud of him for having that kind of bravery.
To Jonas -who lives in a very liberal, modern country in which most people don’t have a problem with homosexuality- his best friend being gay is not a big deal. But to Gio -who on the other hand lives in a pretty homophobic country- it is. Or rather, it’s not a big deal the fact itself that Marti is gay, but more that he told him. So, after trying to play it cool and failing miserably, he just smiles and gives Marti a knowing look. The same look he gives him after he tells Elia and Luca, and again after he introduces them to Nico that morning in Bracciano. A look that means “I’m proud of you”, which is exactly the same thing that Jonas is communicating to Isak by being unbothered.
And these, my friends, are the only two acceptable reactions to someone coming out to you.
I am very endeared by the cute little animation tumblr gave us for when you like posts that are tagged with #hollanov
Stay.

It’s like, when Martino realizes that someone close to him needs to be saved, he does it in the sweetest way possible, always making sure they don’t feel embarrassed or patronized by him. Remember how he tried to save Eva from those guys back in season 3? Or how he stood by Sana when she stopped talking to everyone else? And now that little moment at the pool? You could tell how grateful Elia was, and that it was the perfect way to handle this situation.
Not that there was ever any doubt, but I still love Martino Rametta with all my heart 😭 the way he stopped the others from undressing at the pool so Elia wouldn’t have to either 😭 and then that look between them 😭
phase 4 is pain
Just want to appreciate this angry, scared, feral, Losing It™ look without thinking about what is about to happen in front of him…
#seriously though this scene was the most powerful in terms of how incredibly well Xiao Zhan played Wei Wuxian #he’s feral and losing what fragile control he managed to scrape back #because that bastard is standing between him and his family #and wei wuxian has always done everything short of directly killing himself for his family #but because of what happened that day in that place#his path could never lead anywhere but the cliffs of nightless #this is the moment wei wuxian died #it just took his body a while to catch up (via it-begins-with-rain)
#wwx#the scene in nightless where he gets shot in the chest and just looks down at the arrow..#he doesnt have a core to make him more durable that really should’ve killed him#but..necromancer animating his own corpse#hes dead already his body just has yet to catch up (via @niehuaisangsfan)
#I am *always* here for #Wei Wuxian animating his own dead body (via nicheappeal)
so I can’t gif but I don’t think we talk enough about Wen Zhuliu, or this moment
the beginning of episode 19 is A Lot (the first time through, I literally went back to episode 18 like “wait did I miss something what’s going on,” but nope), and I know I personally got extremely distracted by the worldbuilding Wei Wuxian offers in his defiance to Wen Chao (i.e. becoming a terrifying ghost after death and haunting the hell out of the Wen Clan, which, well, he basically did anyway).
but we see Wei Wuxian get kicked through the doorway (whereupon he immediately does the Chest Grab of Pain, which becomes coded in the rest of the show as “his lack of a golden core is hurting him right now” but we don’t find out about this until episode 46), followed by Wen Zhuliu entering and looking at his hand
guys
Wen Zhuliu knows
Wen Zhuliu knows that Wei Wuxian has no golden core at this point, and he looks at his hand like that’s weird and I’m pretty sure I never touched this one and how can that be?
and while this is comedy gold for the rest of the episode (every time Wen Chao tries to intimidate Wei Wuxian with melting his golden core, Wei Wuxian is like “lol good luck with that” and Wen Zhuliu is like “…do I tell him now?”), I can’t help but wonder if Wen Zhuliu silently figured out the golden core transfer
Wei Wuxian is thrown, golden core-less, into the Burial Mounds for three months. meanwhile, Jiang Cheng – who Wen Zhuliu viscerally knows should be an average person by now – is leading part of the revolution against the Wen Clan. He might not know the specifics of experimental medical surgeries but Wen Zhuliu can do simple math, he may be the strong and silent type but that doesn’t mean he can’t count
I think this is why, in episode 20, Wen Zhuliu barely fights Wei Wuxian when he comes for Wen Chao, because internally he’s going “damn son you crawled out of hell without a golden core, you deserve to win this one”
Wen Zhuliu can do simple math, okay.
oh mY GOD
OMG. The gifs… The explanations… Perfect. 😂😂😂 Just bloody fucking perfect. Wen Zhuliu can fucking count and he’s amazing at it. 🥰🥰🥰
