me: complex/dense ideas are cool and anti-intellectualism posturing as an appeal to accessibility muddles the real reasons why accessibility is an issue in the academy. challenging what is familiar can be good because it pushes society forward. we live in a complex world and we need to have complex solutions. let geeks live unless they’re couching some real doodoo in esoteric language for the sake of it.
also me: the academy is apart of the same state apparatus as prisons and the military (columbia university helped research for the manhattan project, many universities are funded by DARPA, etc). we think the academy is neutral somehow, but it ain’t. foucault was correct in his observations of the academy as an arena where suppressive authority is ideologically justified. transformative action and ideas happen in spite of academia, not because of it

“A polka-dot has the form of the sun, which is a symbol of the energy of the whole world and our living life, and also the form of the moon, which is calm. Round, soft, colourful, senseless and unknowing.
Polka-dots can’t stay alone; like the communicative life of people, two or three polka-dots become movement… Polka-dots are a way to infinity.” -Yayoui Kusama

*male writer voice* i don’t remember her name. it’s not important. i met her at a record store and she went home with me because i offered to buy her cigarettes. she had amazing perky breasts. we drank cheap whiskey and had sex three times that night and then she told me she wanted to be a dragonfly because they were free. i slept with her many times after that. but one day she stopped returning my calls and i don’t know why. that was seven years ago. on monday she got hit by a bus and died. i saw it in the newspaper so i went to her funeral and it made me sad. i don’t know why. i hate my mother even though she pays my rent while i write poetry about masturbating in the shower
13-Year-Old Tyree King Fatally Shot by Police in Columbus, Ohio.
According to officials in Columbus, police fatally shot 13-year-old Tyree King while responding to a report of an armed robbery Wednesday night.
When police arrived on the scene, they said the victim told them a group of people approached him and demanded money.
Police said they saw three males who matched the caller’s description of suspects. When they attempted to take the suspects into the custody, two of them ran away and King allegedly pulled out a gun, which later turned out to be a BB gun. One of the officers shot and struck the suspect multiple times.
Tyree King was rushed to a children’s hospital but could not be saved.
According to the Columbus Division of Police the officers will receive “mandated psychological support counseling” and be given the opportunity to “take leave time to assist in recovery from a traumatic experience”.
Two years since the fatal shooting of Tamir Rice by police in the same state…They were both victims of police negligence and violence. They were both little kids and deserve to still be alive. Police are out on the streets taking the lives of our people as if they were God…
RIP #TyreeKing #SayHisName #BlackLivesMatter

WTF????? He was 13 ffs. Stop killing our babies!
I know he didn’t pull the fucking gun out. They ALWAYS lie
No black people are pulling guns in police.
Especially not a child in the same state Tamir was murdered
He had a BB gun on him. A BB gun. Again Black children are dying for having fake weapons and quiet frankly it’s ridiculous cops are shooting first asking questions never. They have been able to apprehend armed shooters who have killed people.

Matt Bomer is getting called out for playing a transgender woman in an upcoming movie
The film Anything came under fire for casting Matt Bomer, a cisgender man, as a transgender woman. Many believe the part should have gone to an actual trans woman. And the way Matt is handling it is making the problem way worse.
