Decided to do a re-read of a series I enjoyed (The Bellhaven Clan by Zoe Ashwood). I read the books as individual stories originally, but I also bought physical copies. The collections specifically because the covers were so pretty.
Loved the stories and the characters as much this time as I did the first time I read them. And I have the very satisfying appearance of getting to see all my annotation flags, along with that flick flick sound when you run your fingers over them.
Listen to me. Listen. I need you to dig up your old LJ fan fiction and move it to ao3 or Squidge. I need you to do this. I know, I know! It’s old fic! But please, for the love of those who will come after you, do it. Nobody can get into those communities. The doors are locked and the mods are gone. You must bring the treasures out for the next generation 🙏
Reblog if you don't use Generative AI to write fanfics/original fics or to create fanart/original art.
My 150 read of 2026:
Strange Love by Ann Aguirre.
I came to this book with absolutely no expectations. It had popped up several times on my recommended for you lists, been listed as a title in similar people have also read lists, and so on. No overt, "You gotta read this!" kind of thing.
But god damn, was I honestly delighted in the story! The MMC is awkward and sweet and very very alien. The FMC is a treate and rolls with a lot of punches externally while freaking out internally. And the Snaps, the dog granted a voice, was fucking awesome (such a good boy).
It was an odd story all on its own, but made sweet with two people accidentally thrown together who grow to care for one another. Because of over population and population control concerns, couples need to compete in a series of trials to be granted permission to copulate and "exchange genetic material". Threw a series to tests and trials, they need to prove they "worthy genetics" to pass on, but also that they can protect, defend, provide, and nurture whatever young they have.
I like that it teated both partners in a couple. It was interesting how sometimes the partner you enter the Choosing with may not be the one you end the trials with. And it was so fucking weird in other ways.
Very much recommend this book if you like aliens who are alien in culture, appearance, and anatomy. An MMC who is sweet and gentle and grows in confidence with an FMC who is finding her footing in a world she didnt even know existed before.
finding an error in someone else's fic: awe. we are all human - this is totally understandable and doesn't bother me whatsoever. it is almost endearing to know that others are not perfect, and in their excitement to share, they made a small mistake.
finding an error in your own fic: a merciful death is too kind for me. i deserve to be burnt on a pyre or publicly executed at dawn
June Reading Stats
June was another good month. It seems that I am averaging about 24-25 books a month. That's pretty good. Means I will meet and exceed my reading goal for 2026, so I will probably need to re-evaluate that in the very near future.
Books Read: 24 Average Rating: 3.8 Stars Format: 75% Ebook, 25% Audiobook
Had another 5 star read in June, too. Grim by Joe Arden & DJ Krimmer
And the complete list of books and ratings for June below the cut :)

HISTORY HAS BEEN ENGRAVED INTO THIS POST
Ahh!
The last audiobook for Emma Hamm's Deep Waters series is releasing tomorrow! No idea what time that's actually going to translate to, but damn am I really looking forward to having it magically appear in my audible library.
I really enjoyed the first four books. The world building was fascinating. The characters were interesting and relatable. And the struggles they each faced... some of them broke my heart. And each of the couples have some great humourous moments, too.
So, if you are considering a fantasy story set on earth in a nebulous, post apocalyptic future where humanity had to retreat into the ocean to survive only the find out that the oceans weren't so void of sentient life as originally believed. And now, a few hundred years later, humanity is still dealing with the fallout of that?
Or, if you just want to read about mermen and their human ladies...
Whispers of the Deep Song of the Abyss Echoes of the Tide Call of the Fathoms Secrets of the Void
My personal favourite is Echoes of the Time, followed by Whispers of the Deep. I just... I really like the characters and their struggles and the obstecals they face in these books. Though, Call of the Fathoms has one of my favourite scenes. Where you learn what the true, mortal enemy (in the natural world) is to these mermen, as told to us by Fortis.
I have loaned my physical copy of Choosing Theo by Victoria Aveline to a friend. Hopefully she will enjoy it at least half as much as I did. This is her introduction to alien romance and I think its a pretty gentle and tame series to do that introduction with.
Well. I would say this introduction has been a success. She is a handful of pages away from the end of the book, and is looking forward to getting Luka's book on Monday to read :D
Even greater success! She is starting Verrako's book today. Finally someone i will be able to have a conversation with about this series! 🥳

I forgot to being Luka's book with me this morning. I have, rightly and deservedly, been given the 'i am so disappointed in you' look from my friend. She now has to wait until end of the day to bring me home to get the book.

Currently reading Treasured by a Dragon Warlord, by Hattie Jacks. I'm only like 3 chapters in and very much enjoying it. Gillian is one hell of a badass lady.
