For fanfic writer friday: Do you get an idea for a fic and ruminate on it/edit it over a period of time or do you full send and post within a day or two? Basically do you write meticulously or spontaneously?

i am, unfortunately, a mix of both.... i wrote and posted the first chapter of i, carrion in one or two days as a sort of fuck it fic because i just was possessed by a piece of fanart and it overwhelmed me

buuuut half of my fics i ruminate on for a long time (mafia, one-shots) and edit over and over and over and then have to point at myself in the mirror and bully myself to post. i write very fast and then edit back - i read a quote on here that said it's always easier to edit than to write, so i just try and get ideas/words on the page and then edit it from there! and it's sort of fun that way! like i will read something i wrote and be like "holy that is SO bad" and then i am so incensed by the impossibility of what i wrote that i am immediately overcome with a better idea

thinking about I, Carrion (my beloved!!) and would love to hear your thoughts about writing specifically pre-Spite Lucanis in this!

omg first of all, thank u

secondly, pre Spite Lucanis is heavily influenced by TWJ (my beloved) - but also it was tricky trying to determine what aspects of Lucanis fundamentally changed in the Ossuary. I looked at what we sort of saw through Illario's POV - a consummate professional, focused on what the job demands.

I think what is special about Rook is that they always seem to help him understand what he can be outside of a Crow, which isn't something he really focuses on until he meets Rook. IMO pre Spite Lucanis is sort of a dick (which i love, actually) especially to his cousin, and knows how to do his job well. i will fight anyone who thinks he's bad at being a Crow. That is how he defines himself!! that is what he's known for!!!!

saw someone say that they don't read fics under 10k and had to laugh because more fool you, that is where all the bangers are. obviously I'm biased but truly nothing hits like a 1.5k fic with a lowercase title from some obscure poet where nothing actually happens and yet you emerge blinking with a completely new outlook on the character. infinitely rereadable. like a perfectly crafted pastry. I'm gobbling them up!
