Service dogs are amazing animals…but there is SO much public misconception about them. So let’s change that with some facts for #ServiceDogAwarenessMonth!
🐾 Service dogs can assist people with a huge variety of disabilities. People with psychiatric conditions (PTSD, depression, anxiety, dissociative disorders, etc), diabetes, heart conditions, mobility disorders, and more can benefit from service dogs.
🐾 Businesses have the right to ask service dog handlers two questions: “Is your dog trained to assist you with a disability?” “What tasks does your dog perform?”
🐾 Service dogs are not trained to provide comfort. All dogs do this, but a service dog is made by the tasks they perform—and emotional support is not a task.
🐾 There is no legally required registration for service dogs. The individual only needs to be disabled and have their dog task trained to assist them with that disability.
🌟 Share this to help more people understand these amazing pups! 🌟

Of course everyone knows of the seven deadly sins, and the seven heavenly virtues. But a less known group resides on earth as humans. Apathy, distraction, procrastination, undecidedness, irritation, anxiety, and depression are the seven unnecessary inconveniences.
Spirit Work: Discernment
When delving into spirit or deity work for the first time, it might feel overwhelming to a practitioner who is just starting out. Many people who get into spirit work usually have a prior gift of some capacity that allows them to dip their toes into the world of the unseen.
Regardless of how or why one has arrived at the steps of spirit work, there are many factors that are of absolute importance which make up the foundations of traversing through this practice safely. Of course, the most important is protection and prevention. However, another incredibly important aspect is discernment.
All too often new spirit workers will become enthralled with the prospect of making a connection with beings on different planes than our own, and a lot of times those practitioners fall into a trap of either being deceived by a being or even by falling into a state of hysteria where they feel anything and everything is a message or sign from a spirit or deity. Either outcome dampens the practice and sets you back in your work.
Where to Begin
The most important foundational point of spirit work is to look at yourself internally prior to jumping into the practice. If you have any natural gifts such as being clairaudient or clairvoyant and you’ve effectively used these gifts before, these will be natural tools that will aid you in discernment and confirmation. While these gifts will aid you, they are certainly not the only tools you should be using while making sure that what you are experiencing is in fact truly happening.
Even in the case of natural gifts, newer practitioners can fall into a false idea of security if a being pretends to be something they’re not, so other methods of discernment are wonderful to keep in mind while communicating with beings or looking for confirmation.
Aside from natural gifts, the most important part of discernment is logic. Use your rational mind and don’t see what you want to see. See what is truly there instead and make sure you’re aware of all possibilities regarding what you are communicating with.
The Usage of Divination
For the most part, most forms of divination are simply a tool to access our intuition. When you use a pendulum or lay out a tarot spread, the information you receive using these tools are typically born from a higher place of knowing within yourself. So in a way, that makes these methods biased when using them for yourself.
When we want an answer in a reading of any kind, we tend to seek the answer we are subconsciously thinking of. This can cause a reading to give a false positive. On the other side of the coin, we can also turn a reading negative by hoping a reading does not give us bad news. However, since that is the energy we’ve poured into it, that is what we get: a false negative.
The same theory can be applied when using methods of divination such as tarot cards or pendulums as tools of discernment and confirmation in spirit and deity work. If we think we are talking to a being or we think we are receiving a message from a being, we can skew the results of a reading by hoping for that confirmation that what we are thinking is indeed correct.
Let’s say you go further and make sure you detach your wish for a desired outcome regarding a reading. If you leave yourself open and do not safeguard against it, a being that is not the one you are wishing to be in contact with can falsify who they are and lie to you through your readings. Always shield your readings.
Magical Thinking
We’ve all seen posts like these. Someone sees crows or ravens slightly more often in their area than they’re used to seeing and assumes it is a sign from a deity, while completely ignoring the fact that it is that time of the year when these birds tend to gather in their area.
It is important to always remember the true key to discernment is logic. If something is incredibly peculiar or keeps repetitively happening so much that it is quite literally drowning you and has no logical backing, then yes: it may be a sign. However, if it is an occurrence that can be explained by mundane means such as ecological patterns, it is most likely not a sign.
The same can be said for occurrences such as dreams. When something is on our mind prior to falling asleep, whether it is on our mind constantly or for a moment that is significant enough to slip into our subconscious, we may find this same topic entering our dreams. That is not to say every dream where a being is connecting to us is not real, but it simply means you should use other methods of confirmation as well alongside of it.
Do not fall into the trap of magical thinking. You are doing yourself a disservice and cheapening the practice of spirit work for yourself. It is exciting to receive a sign from a being, but a leaf blowing in the wind isn’t always a sign. Be logical, look for the peculiar, and when you receive a real sign that a being is communicating with you, you will see the difference.
Familiarity
When you know a spirit, being, or deity you are interacting with is truthfully there and is who they say they are, you will begin to be able to feel a sense of familiarity with them. They will give off a certain energy signature when they are around and will have the same mannerisms when communicating with you. Some beings prefer to use imagery to contact you, seldom using any words. Others will say familiar phrases and speak in a certain manner that is individual to them.
You can use these attributes to your advantage, and when something feels off when attempting to communicate with a being, you can be aware and probe to see if what you are talking to is being honest.
Parting Thoughts
If a being is constantly telling you that you are the most wonderful thing on Earth and it is in a way that does not seem sincere, or if they are constantly telling you negative things about yourself, they are most likely a being who is attempting to manipulate you.
Beings that are attempting to deceive you may also tell you that you are the most powerful practitioner ever, and that you need them to fulfill your true potential in your craft. If there is a push for dependency, this being is most likely attempting to burrow their way into your energy and make you think you need them.
When wanting to get confirmation from a being, simply asking for signs is the best way. The most popular way of noticing something communicating with you is synchronicity. For example, you keep hearing and seeing the number 11 and it’s happening so often that it makes you notice it’s a pattern, this may be an attempt at communication. Make sure the occurrences are peculiar as I mentioned, or you will fall into magical thinking. Ask for specific signs, not for general ones.
Again, using your natural abilities as I mentioned above is a more clear and direct way to communicate with a being. You may also partake in journeying or guided meditations to communicate with a being to receive messages and confirmations. When using any methods at all, always make sure to protect yourself so that you may only interact with beings who mean you no harm.
In the case of deities, always do research prior to reaching out to them, especially if you’re reaching out to them to ask them to do something for you. That is like asking a person to run an errand for you without getting to know them: they’re not going to do it and will probably be offended you asked.

The thing about this is that sculptures like these in art history were for the male gaze. Photoshop a phone to it and suddenly she’s seen as vain and conceited. That’s why I’m 100% for selfie culture because apparently men can gawk at women but when we realize how beautiful we are we’re suddenly full of ourselves…
“You painted a naked woman because you enjoyed looking at her, put a mirror in her hand and you called the painting “Vanity,” thus morally condemning the woman whose nakedness you had depicted for you own pleasure.” ― John Berger, Ways of Seeing
I know I’ve reblogged this before but it’s so important.
That fact that anyone working with food in America doesn’t have guaranteed paid sick days is a health hazard to the public.
no but for real, the CDC has said the leading cause of foodborne illness is the lack of sick days for people who work in the food industry and that it costs billions a year to the economy.
When Beyoncé said “if we’re going to heal, let it be glorious” it really stuck with me. And that’s the motto for 2018 and onwards.
We really need to start making older men AFRAID of seeing girls in their late teens as potential partners.
‘But she’s so emotionally mature’
No NONCE she ain’t!!!!! ‘Emotionally mature’ compared to what? She’s a baby!!! Her willingness to carry YOUR bullshit and nurse your ego is not emotional maturity!
Men are just scared to date women their own age bc they are so transparently fucking pathetic and selfish and utterly undesirable and know that women w more life experience will recognise those things about them immediately. Fucking losers
“We should realize that the problems of racial injustice and economic injustice cannot be solved without a radical redistribution of political and economic power.” - Martin Luther King, Jr.
The Poor People’s Campaign was a 1968 effort to gain economic justice for poor people in the United States. It was organized by Martin Luther King, Jr., and was the last campaign he was working on before he was assassinated in April 1968. King shifted his focus to these issues after observing that gains in civil rights had not improved the material conditions of life for many African Americans.
The Poor People’s Campaign was a multiracial effort—including African-Americans, Asian-Americans, Mexican-Americans, Puerto Ricans, Appalachian White people, and Native Americans—aimed at alleviating poverty regardless of race. Just as King began his multiracial campaign for economic justice he was murdered.
“wouldn’t you rather earn something than have it just handed to you?”
Yeah when it comes to actual awards and fancy goods, but when it comes to basic needs, basic human decency, and accomodations, those things should always be handed to people. No one should have to “earn” those things.Value people as people, not base it on how much they produce.

I can’t wait for the day a woman’s strength isn’t dictated by how much abuse she can endure
This may just be my experience as an autistic person, but the kids I’ve nannied whose parent’s complain of ‘bad awful in cooperative selfish autistic behavior’ are… Not like that? At all?
Like, for example, I cared for a kid for a while who was nonverbal and didn’t like being touched. Around six years old? Their parent said that they were fussy and had a strict schedule, and that they had problems getting them to eat. Their last few nannies had quit out of frustration.
So, I showed up. And for the first little while, it was awkward. The kid didn’t know me, I didn’t know them, you know how it is. And for the first… Day and a half, maybe? I fucked up a few times.
I changed their diaper and they screamed at me. I put the TV off and they threw things. Not fun, but regular upset kid stuff.
Next time, I figured, hell, I wouldn’t like being manhandled and ordered around either. Who likes being physically lifted out of whatever it is they’re doing and having their pants yanked off? Fucking few, that’s who.
Next time, I go, ‘hey, kiddo. You need a new diaper?’ and check. ‘I’m gonna go grab a new one and get you clean, okay?’ ‘Wanna find a spot to lay down?’ ‘Alright, almost done. Awesome job, thanks buddy’.
I learned stuff about them. They liked a heads up before I did anything disruptive. They didn’t mind that I rattled of about nothing all day. They didn’t like grass or plastic touching their back. They were okay with carpets and towels. They liked pictionary, and the color yellow, and fish crackers, and painting. They didn’t look me in the face (which was never an issue- I hate that too, it fucking sucks) but I never had reason to believe that they were ignoring me.
Once I learned what I was doing wrong, everything was fine. Did they magically “”“become normal”“” and start talking and laughing and hugging? No, but we had fun and had a good time and found a compromise between what I was comfortable with and what they were comfortable with. (For the record, I didn’t magically sailor-moon transform into a socially adept individual, either. In case anyone was wondering.)
I don’t like eye contact. It’s distracting and painful and stresses me out.
They didn’t like eye contact either.
Is eye contact necessary to communication? No. So we just didn’t do it.
Was there ever a situation where I HAD to force them to drop everything and lay down on the lawn? No. So the thirty second warning came into play, and nobody died.
“But they never talked!”
No, they didn’t. And they didn’t know ASL, and they didn’t like being touched.
So you know what happened?
My third day in, they tugged on my shirt. ‘Hey monkey, what’s up?’ I asked. And they tugged me towards the kitchen. ‘oh, cool. You hungry?’. They raised their hands in an ‘up’ gesture. ‘you want up? Cool.’ and I lifted them up. They pointed to the fridge. I opened it. They grabbed a juice box out of the top shelf, and pushed the door closed again. ‘oh sweet, grape is the best. You are an individual of refined taste.’ I put them down and they went back to their room to play Legos.
“But they didn’t say please or thank you!” “But you should be teaching them communication skills!” “But!” Lalalalala.
1. The entire interaction was entirely considerate and polite. I was never made uncomfortable. I was made aware of the problem so that I could help them solve it. There was no mess, no tears, no bruises, no shouting.
2. Did my brain collapse into a thousand million fragments of shattered diamond dust out of sheer incomprehension? No? Then their communication skills were fine. Goal realized, solution found, objective complete. They found the most simple and painless way to communicate the situation and then did it.
Kids are not stupid. AUTISTIC kids are not stupid.
I’m willing to bet real cash money that the real reason the last few nannies had quit had a million times more to do with their own ability to cope, not the kid’s.
To this day, that was the most relaxed and enjoyable job I’ve ever had.
And I know I don’t speak for everyone. All kids are different. All adults are different. But in my time and experience, pretty much 95% of all my difficulties with children come from ME not being understanding enough. Every single “problem child” I’ve worked with turned out to be a pretty cool person once I started figuring out how to put my ego aside and let them set the pace.
Again, not speaking universally, here. I’m just saying. Sometimes social rules are bullshit, you know? People are people
Have you ever read an article about the study that found that teaching the parents to cope with autistic kids yields better results than other therapies? Because this is exactly what they were talking about.
Romanticize yourself.
Take care of yourself, take yourself out on dates, write poetry about yourself. Describe yourself in great detail as if you were a character in a book.
Renew yourself constantly, that’s how we grow, but don’t change anything about yourself that isn’t toxic or unhealthy.
a guide to exploring abandoned farms
essential supplies include: plenty of food and water, a change of socks, a hat, rope, bandaids, a knife, gloves, an acorn in your pocket, and an offering
there are always odd noises on the farm. half of them come from the animals
try to forget what the lake looks like between the hours of three and four AM
never ever find yourself alone in the milking shed in the south end of the farm. time passes differently there
if you happen to hurt yourself in your exploration, make sure you do not bleed onto the dirt
bring plenty of water, you do not want to drink from there
the cows will watch you, this is normal
close every gate you open, even if the fields are empty. don’t ever leave one open behind you, just trust me
beware unstable rocks, the cracks tend to be filled with insect nests
bring a weapon with you, but no guns
if you see someone else while exploring, never tell them your name. you can never be sure if they are real or not, and further out you go, the less real they will seem. the patupaiarehe have evolved in cruel and unusual ways
do not go inside the empty share-milkers cottages, whatever you do, do not go inside. something else lives there now
a tree with the undersides of its leaves showing mean that a storm is coming. a tree with no leaves means the storm has already come
sometimes the hills look like they’re moving. be aware of this, because some things don’t like to be disturbed
do not sleep under the full moon, in fact, just don’t sleep on the farm
finding skulls is normal, only become worried when you start finding ribs
if you find yourself lost in a forest, continue walking in a straight line until you are free again. the trees may make it look as though you are going in circles, but i promise you’re not. ignore the soft music you can hear
your phone won’t work out here
the ghosts from the land wars won’t harm you, but be sure to show them respect
don’t take anything from the farm with you when you leave. just be grateful you have made it out alive
This is labeled as New Zealand Gothic so there are a few things specific to NZ here, but I live in Michigan and let me tell you. This isn’t a joke, not is it region specific. There is a farm my father has visited since childhood that never felt right. He once saw a black mass that they don’t like to talk about. A few years ago a swarm of flies attacked his tent one morning while he was camping with a friend. That same day, he became suddenly and violently ill. He brought whatever attached itself to him back home and it didn’t leave until we did a full cleansing ritual.
Do not fuck around on farm land. Especially if you don’t know what was on that land before it.
@aprilwitching
I actually need to add to this because there’s some stuff the locals out in Missouri told me.
around dawn/dusk/twilight if you feel something behind you, don’t turn around. Even if you are in an open field
you hear a woman crying in the woods, hope that its probably a cougar. dont go looking for it
avoid the woods around these farmlands if you can
dont cross streams
try not to be there around the evening time. whatever you’re feeling will get worse and might follow
if you’re religious, don’t bring any artifacts of such if you can. crosses etc. it can upset whatever is there.
I dont care how pretty the rock is, don’t pick it up
avoid going in most buildings. not just the ones listed above. especially barns. look in, look around, don’t physically walk in there. not only is it structurally unsafe, you don’t know whats hiding in there. corporeal or not.
lastly, before you leave. check your belongings and pockets and anywhere anything you can stash stuff in. chances are you will be missing something, that’s normal. if you had something there you didn’t before. sometimes they just happen to be there even with no recollection. get rid of it on that land, not off of it!
IT IS RARE IN THIS DAY AND AGE THAT THE EARTH IS ALLOWED TO RECLAIM LAND BUT WHEN IT DOES IT DOES SO TOOTH AND NAIL AND WILL NOT GIVE IT UP AGAIN SO EASILY
