“Use your words”
“I was trying to protect you”
“I don’t know where she gets it from”
Warnings: yelling, mild anger
-
Whenever stress flooded your senses every muscle in your body tightened as if it would snap. And being yelled at by Professor Stein over a formulaic mix up was quite the shot of anxiety. A slight miscalculation in the moles of a compound might have potentially turned Ray to ash in oxidized combustion.
“-And as for your degrees, I think you owe the University who gave them to you an apology!” Stein wailed on.
You flinched unconsciously, biting your lip in guilt. The others were scattered across the deck, none really sure what to do about the turnabout conflict. You were practically like a science-nerd daughter to professor Stein, and this argument was like you being publicly disowned. Leonard straightened up in his seat at your reaction, eyes narrowing.
Ray attempted to break the tension, “You know, we didn’t even create the formula, it was only a theory.”
Stein didn’t even turn from you, “I understand Dr. Palmer, but the fact Dr. (L/N) even SUGGESTED it-”
“How ‘bout instead of verbally slapping (Y/N) for another round we let her have a say,” Leonard chimed in uncharacteristically. You stumbled over the overflow of thoughts coming to you and remained silent. Leonard stared steadily at you, “Come on, Doll Face, use your words.”
Swallowing the lumps in your throat you steadied yourself, “Professor, I understand the miscalculation was my fault, but the fact of the matter is unless we work together to fix these slip ups we ALL make, we will never complete anything around here!” You finished pleading your case.
Stein stood taken aback. He seemed to almost regret his statement until he said, “Are you actually saying I have messed up any of our formula thus far!”
Exhaustion flooded your being. The tightness released like a snapped rubber band. “You know what? I’m done. Blame me for everything. Global Warming, Parachute pants, other horrors of the world. All on me. Sorry guys,” you turn to Snart, who was smiling in his eyes, “Guess I’m the ultimate criminal on board. Professor crowned me and everything.” And with that you bowed excessively and left the room. Leonard and Mick shared a look of 'wow, that was fun’ while the rest watched Stein like a ticking time bomb.
You sat in an alcove of the ship, the impact of what just happened finally hitting you. Thinking about the way you lashed out made your breath hitch. Yes, you knew Stein could be eccentric beyond compare, but he was basically your Timeship Dad and you’ve never fought with him. Tears threatened to spill over when footsteps alerted you someone was coming. Quickly you pawed at your face trying to tame the tears.
Turning round you were startled to find Leonard squatting down beside you, coming to a height slightly above your own. Letting out a breath you hadn’t realized you’d been holding you said, “I didn’t realize anyone would go looking for me after that performance. Kinda figured the second act would be going on with Professor by now.”
“Oh it is, believe me,” Leonard mused in a neutral tone.
You winced, again Leonard took notice, he sat back on the floor next to you, the side of his leg pressed to your own. Images of Stein’s fit rolled in your mind. “So, did you hear anything interesting?” You tried to sound relaxed.
Apparently you failed because Leonard took off his jacket and draped it over you like a blanket in one swift motion. “The usual annoyed father stuff, 'I don’t know where she gets it from’ 'No respect for her elders!’” You were flabbergasted that Leonard Snart, Captain Cold himself, was mimicking the Proffesor lightheartedly.
You gave sniffly laugh, “You know, you’re pretty cool, Cold.” You smiled at the face he made.
“Aren’t cold puns under my official trademark?” He asked dryly.
A genuine laugh this time, “I don’t know if you’ve heard Leonard, but there is this concept called 'stealing’.”
He gave you a sideways look, “Where was this backbone five minutes ago?”
You turned quiet once more, pondering the query. “I guess I’m afraid to be seen as a disappointment to Stein, to let him down. I don’t really feel afraid with you.” You adjusted yourself on the floor.
Snart seemed rubbed the wrong way. “So you don’t minding disappointing me, huh?”
You huffed, and grabbed Leonard’s hand in what you hoped was an assuring gesture. “No, I just don’t feel like you judge me like Stein does. We are not perfect and it’s ok.” You paused for a second. “Why would you help me with Stein anyway? You’re not usually the stepping in type?”
Leonard in a rare moment of earnestness faced you head on, body gliding smoothly to sit in front of you. “I was trying to protect you. The way you were looking… It wasn’t right.” The blue of his eyes had never seemed so bright and pure to you as they did now.
Reaching out you grabbed both his hands, pulling them towards you. “So you do care about… The team…” You watched him closely.
He gave a half smile, “I care about you, if that’s what you mean.” He turned serious once more, “I care about you, (Y/N).”
“Thank goodness or I would have looked pretty dumb pining after Captain Cold,” you reply. Immediately Leonard reacts, bringing his hands to your face and kissing you fervently. Your fingers find their way to the back of his head, brushing over the soft down of his silver hair. The feeling of his fingers on your cheeks made your hair stand on end from pleasure.
A sudden thought entered your mind which released a bubble of laughter. Leonard pulled back in surprise. “Something humorous about this?”
You giggled once more and kissed the tip of his nose, “Just that I am rebelling against my Timeship Dad and now dating the local Bad Boy. Could I be more cliché?”
Leonard rolled his eyes. “My god you are a cute cliché.”
