Alright look
If you really want to read the Harry Potter books for nostalgia and you own copies/can get them from the library, fine. I don't like it, but fine.
If you want to rewatch the movies and you own DVDs of them or can borrow them from the media section of your library or a friend, I don't like it, but again, fine.
I, and most people with basic decency, draw the line at the Harry Potter show. JK Rowling has said she's going to use the money that show makes to fund anti trans bills and make trans people's lives hell.
You cannot watch the show ethically. You cannot go to the stupid Harry Potter theme park thing ethically. You cannot buy new Harry Potter books, movies, and merch ethically. You cannot make a social media account dedicated to Harry Potter content ethically.
Because whether you realize it or not, when you watch that show or buy those books new, you are telling the world you do not give a singular damn about trans people. You are saying that you want trans people to suffer for the sake of your goddamn nostalgia. You know on some level what you are doing with your money, so don't you dare say this isn't what you want when you support that franchise.
You have a choice. A shitty book series made by a bigot or the literal lives of millions of people. And it says a lot about some of you based on what you pick.
op disabled reblogs but I think the point still stands
But seriously, if alien PLANTS ever show up, citrus and oaks are going to be trying to breed with them IMMEDIATELY.
We make fun of ourselves for being willing to fuck aliens, but I guarantee you that citrus and oaks are right there with us, aggressively trying to cross-pollinate with any new and interesting conquests.
#another iowan talking shit about plants #new stereotype alert!!!!!!!!
if you spent any amount of ur life in iowa literally surrounded by endless fields of maize (’beautiful rolling hills of gold’ or whatever bullshit people who dont live here call it) and you remain unwilling to call plants out about the rate at which they fuck, always, constantly, ceaselessly, aggressively, than you have learned nothing and i hope u walk into the bathroom in the middle of the night and experience a scene like the bloody bathtub one in scream where u pull back the curtain and theres maize growing up the drain into ur home
@botanyshitposts U get it thank you.
I haven’t lived in Iowa for three generations and the urge to talk smack about plants still runs strong.
Please tell me about oak hybrids! I’ve learned a lot about citrus hybrids recently, but not about oak hybrids!
Full disclosure: I’m not an arborist, but this is how i remember it being explained to me by DBG’s Dan The Arborist:
It’s not actually clear if Oak Trees HAVE species.
To elaborate:
One oak tree looks/grows/and even tastes very much like another, to the point where some botanists and arborists are going “Can you really call this a different species when the changes are so miniscule that they could be chalked up to differneces between individuals?
Yes, Taste. sometimes the only way to tell one oak tree from another is that the bark is slightly more bitter than a different kind fo oak.
FURTHERMORE, when you DO find two very different-looking Oaks from different parts of the world whose last common ancestor was back in the goddamn Pliestocene, you can plant them next to eachother and they will gleefully comingle their DNA into a perfectly viable new tree.
Which will somehow manage to look exactly like another, unrelated tree.
So the theory espoused by Dan The Arborist, on that cold march morning after he’d spent 5 minutes loudly and somewhat profanely rambling in front of the most Charlie-Brown-Christmas-Tree-Looking Motherfucker of an Oak Bastard Child as mentioned above, goes as such:
Dan thinks that Quercus is a genus comprised of a single, highly variable species of tree that’s managed to take over most of the temperate parts of the world by being a little whore, unquote.
Those variants are the botanical equivalent of breeds, and a scrawny little Scrub Oak and a majrestic Burr Oak are the same species in the same way that a Chihuahua and a Newfoundland are both Dogs.
This is very much up for debate in botanical circles but if Dan discovers another redheaded bastard oak growing in the gardens he will take it to the next conference and thrash it about until they see it his way.
Quercus is a genus comprised of a single, highly variable species of tree that’s managed to take over most of the temperate parts of the world by being a little whore
I need this as an illuminated botany text page or something. I have not laughed this hard in weeks.
@theshitpostcalligrapher takes comissions!
This is why Pride is not just a party. It's a joyful celebration, but it's also a pointed and colourful two-finger salute to a world that stood back whilst so many of us died. And we'll never go quietly, never again.
the prince has begun practicing curtseying in the mirror. which could mean nothing.
we have good news and bad news, my liege. the good news is that we now know what that curtsying was about: you will be pleased to know that, after several heartfelt conversations between your child, the court jesters and a myriad of singing woodland creatures, you are now the parent of a proud and joyful new princess. the bad news is that, due to a series of events related to the dragon-sized hole in her bedchamber wall,
I love the insinuation that the second the princess realized she was a girl and thus actually a princess, the dragon was there. That thing wasted no time. It heard "princess" and was like "I need no further invitation, here I come."
Gender affirmed by Dragon. Amazing.
pretty sure you’re literally the only person who understood my vision on this accursed post
👏👏👏
So--when I was in my mid-twenties and the Disaster Ex tried to make me kill myself, the local mental hospital didn't have any beds open in the usual ward for attempted suicides.
What they did have was a single spare bed in the small, comfortable, quiet, wildly expensive facility for girls with eating disorders.
They asked each of the young women currently living there if it was acceptable that I might occupy a bed in one of the rooms for a while, just the long weekend while I was waiting for a doctor's evaluation. I hadn't been violent, I had gone with the cops without putting up any fight at all, and I was still and I was small and all those things were sufficient for me to be deemed safe. So up they sent me, to somewhere high in Western Psych, above the smells and sounds of the denser-packed wards, above where the care workers were harried and frustrated, to a gentle space with seven or eight young women in it.
I was five foot three, and I weighed about 115 pounds. I was underweight for my frame, as a fair amount of that weight was martial arts muscle; I would probably have been ten pounds heavier if I were healthy, with the amount of activity I got.
I was at least two inches shorter than pretty much every other young woman there, six or seven inches shorter than one of them, and I had at least thirty pounds on several of them. The tallest was not allowed to walk, she had to sit in a wheelchair and be pushed around, because her condition was so advanced that the motion would undo what good her hard work had done.
And over the course of the four or five days I was there, multiple of them came up to me alone to quietly tell me that I had the *perfect* body, and they wished they could be as skinny as I was. That I needed to live, because I was beautiful, and if they were as beautiful as I was, they wouldn't need to be here.
Their eyes were on me all the time, in the hours that I wasn't sleeping. I spent a lot of time sleeping, and we took our meals separately (I not needing to be monitored while I ate, and not having my food weighed), but we spent a fair amount of time sitting around in the little shared living room space, talking about movies and magazines and books we'd loved, talking about our families. I didn't talk about my family; they didn't pry.
They were all so fucking nice.
And I could have broken any one of them over my narrow knee. They each thought they were bigger than I was.
Their brains lied to them, every time they looked at a mirror. Every time they looked down at their own thighs. What they saw was not what I could see. They had bright, beautiful eyes in dark hollows, and I could count their vertebrae, could see their ribs winging when they breathed, could see the motion of every tendon on the backs of their hands.
They weren't celebrities. They weren't being paid to have particular bodies, nor were they deep in the toxic sea of having strangers take photos of them to sell to gossip rags if they stepped out of doors in old jeans. They had families and loved ones who were doing everything that they could to protect them, to uplift them and help them be healthy. They were just everyday people--a nurse, a couple of students, a couple of recent college grads, a young woman who had decided it was time to really get help because she wanted to be a mother--and still they'd been so injured by the neverending fucking deluge of body-image bullshit that they were dying of it.
That was in 2009. Things are worse now. I think about them still. I hope that they're all right.
And in case some people aren't aware: anorexia is deadly. There is a point at which your body looses the ability to digest food and you are no longer capable of improving.
You know Jones soda cap, as a tumblr user i can actually say i think I have.
The core tenet of Stupidism is that everyone is really hecking stupid.
The core values of Stupidism are
Caution: because we, being stupid and surrounded by stupid people, are liable to do something stupid or be subjected to the stupidity of others at any time and in any situation.
Compassion: because it sucks to be stupid, and we are all stupid together.
Curiosity: because being stupid means having a lot to learn.
I forget this post exists sometimes but every time I remember I love it

Companies in the 2000s: You wouldn't download a car! Digital copies are still stealing, even if the original copy remains with us.
Companies in the 2020s: That digital copy, which you have paid for, doesn't really belong to you. We're removing it from your library now.
Companies deleting media you've literally purchased is 1000x more realistically "stealing" than digital piracy, you cannot change my mind
The reason your snacks are unsatisfying is that you need both carb and protein.
Carb starts your engine, protein keeps it going.
No carb, engine don’t start. No protein, engine dies out fast.
Easy carb add on:
Cookie
Fruit (canned or fresh)
Chips
Piece of bread
Popcorn
Crackers
Easy protein add on:
Nuts
Spoonful of nut butter
Cheese
Roasted chickpea snacks
Glass of milk (dairy or non dairy)
Small canned sausages or similar
Sugar in there.
I am pleased by people messaging me telling me that after adding a carb or protein to their snacks or meals they feel more satisfied all day. Yes, my plan is working. People are getting through their days with less hangry.
CYST GONE ASSHOLE UTERUS GONE ENDO GONE I AM AWAKE AND HIGH
OP I need to know what they gave you to have this much energy post-op.
The knowledge that the problem organs causing pain and two periods a month have been evicted with prejudice.
I can't wait for my own organ eviction
side note, teaching myself to pronounce that last one felt like learning a new fucking language
hey so uh next year will be a decade of dobonhonkeros. how about that shit huh.
Happy ten year anniversary of this post.
This is easily one of the CRAZIEST videos I've ever gotten. I was rafting down a river when a Yellow Jacket came, landed on my bright pink waterproof phone pouch, and started drinking from the water droplets that had gathered there.
The most amazing part is how the water droplet magnifies the Hornet's mouth parts, so you get to see them up-close!!!! It was FASCINATING to witness!
Here's some of my favorite still shots from that video:
What do you think? 🥰

Getting down on my knees and thanking the humans who invented dishwashers and washing machines.
InsNe that dishwashers are more efficient and easier than just washing them manually but they also use less water. It’s a win win situation
They ALSO sterilize dishes, due to operating at a far higher temperature than human hands could ever tolerate. It's a win every way.
Made this post about 15 minutes after the repair guy who fixed the pump on my dishwasher packed up his tools and left, as the dishwasher was whirring along doing my dishes from that morning.
He said the exact same thing, which I did not know before that, so spreading this knowledge.
I subscribed to UNNAMED STREAMING SERVICE a few days ago and gave the login info to all my friends, as one does, but one of them went in and turned on 2-factor authentication and set the phone number to her own cell phone, locking me out of the account
It was an accident and we got it fixed but for a brief moment the betrayal and fury was so great I blacked out and was possessed by the spirit of like a 19th century naval officer, I was pacing around my room like "TO THINK THAT JUDAS HIMSELF NUMBERS HIMSELF AMONG MY COMPATRIOTS"
It's called the Global Justice Report, it is here. This is an actionable plan which can be sent to legislators and demanded of political parties. We could save the world within our lifetimes.
It has always been possible. It is still possible.
