One block wonder...done. This quilt took more detailed planning than originally understood yet well worth it. I am pleased with outcome and may make another in the future. Original fabric pictured to give an idea of the variation that comes from fabric to quilt completed.
A picnic lap quilt for my daughter and her man. Two forestry majors married and living in the woods, what a fun collection of fabrics that reflect interests and experiences together. love the flannel backing fabric...just had to have the woodsman for my tree marking girl and her forestry man!
I recently sorted some random batik strips and turned them into wall quilts.
My first real commission! For a blessed couple; a quilt to travel through the decades of love ahead!
My scrappy states quilt ready for some binding work.
Recent quilts in progress. I saw the map quilt pattern online and knew I wanted to make it. The half snowball quilt is a commissioned project for a bride to be- will be used in photo shoot at engagement and wedding day, a heritage quilt in the making!
Purple and black are our favorite colors my future daughter in love said. Amidst life the stash was raided and this is what happened. After stitching in the ditch family "tree" and significant others names were scattered throughout for the newlyweds to discover and tell stories of as they snuggle beneath.
S l o w l y the blocks are turning into strips are turning into a quilt.
One block wonder hexagons, here we go. After waiting a year or two after cutting fabric into repeats I have begun again. I am finding it is a slow steady forward process and so far not too complicated as I move forward step by step. I m looking forward with curiosity at how the final quilt will come together.
Working on some free form flowers with free motion quilting.
After giving up my sewing room for transient younguns, one moved along and I have a room again. (Can I say yipee!) Third design wall, third room used for sewing space, each set up a bit different but I am delighted to have dedicated space again. I am still waiting on a new to me cutting table to arrive, I am thinking it may go on casters to move as needed if I put in front of the design wall. What fun to pull out some scrap blocks and turn them into tops last night! Note sewing tables lowered for ergonomic reasons- if you haven't done so check your work levels, lowering has made a difference in comfort for long sewing sessions.
When the bag of shirts arrived I was delighted to find many Hawaii shirts. I wondered how to turn them into a quilt. The panel scenes were great and I am delighted with the end design. These are memory quilts for a grieving family. A comforting way to remember the good memories shared and the sweet times together. The color in top doesn't show well, what looks grey is a great blue that helps pop the beach blue in the panel. A few pockets were left in for whimsy.
Having packed up my sewing room I am setting up a temporary quilting table. The side ironing board at table height and small overflow table make a huge difference as I wrestle this quilt through the machine for some free motion quilting. Halfway done and high hopes to have this memory completely quilted by day's end!
I am working on some Hawaiian shirt memory quilts. Great graphics made it hard to decide how to incorporate together at first. After Broderick g graphic I found I wanted other shirts to make second border then adding more variety along the edges for final top. The piano scene will have black background.
Topiary tiles pattern made with Moda family tree fabric and some Mona solids. Sashing lines hold the names from family for bride and groom to share stories of as they snuggle together. Border has some free motion quilting of words that are key to long marriage;love, grace, kindness, forgiveness&hellip. the receiving couple loved the quilt, voted it coolest wedding gift of all....that is highest praise I have ever received and believe it is better better than a quilt show ribbon as encouragement to keep quilting and sharing them with others.:)
A new day for our house, an organ arrived! Our niece is an organist and while yard saling this weekend she found this vintage organ calling her name, now we will enjoy live music at home while she graces us with her company.
