Making this lap quilt was so much fun. It was actually my first time using a jelly roll, and I love how two different half-strips can be used to make these blocks with very little waste. I was also loving the look of the scraps as they sat in my thread bowl. I might just have to make a bigger version of this in different colors in the future. We’ll see. Meanwhile I have two other QIPs (quilts-in-progress) about this size I’d like to finish in the next month.

*edit: the fabric was from jellyrollfabric.net which was recommended by a fellow guild member. Their prices are what made me finally give in and purchase my first jelly roll, I highly recommend!

Lap Blanket for Friend - Xmas Gift

U gave my friend their quilt, they loved it and requested a lap blanket for Xmas. cue me spiralling for ideas for a month and then settling in a confetti quilt for ease.

The request was for a 75x150cm blanket. I settled on rainbow and white (12x12, 12x22), had to add a 5cm border to even up the pattern. Worked out I could use the same 1/2m of rainbow fabric to make the backing as well as the binding.

just trying to determine top stitching now. I though about hand stitching squares in white and rainbow colours but I’m also tempted by just straight machine stitching either diagonal or on each side of the seams. im having a bunch of fun at least and super pleased with how well my border is turning out.

I thought I’d share the progress of my creation so far from a birthday gift. I’ve turned some Kaffe Fassett 5” squares from Freespirit Fabrics into disappearing 4 squares and then bought some more fabric by Freespirit to frame the blocks which will eventually end up a lap quilt. It’s my second quilt that I’ve ever made. And I’m dead proud of it so far. Although it is a little too bright! 😎😎😎
