There are those we encounter in our lives who seem to radiate a calming energy. They may not ruffle any feathers, but they go about their daily with a serene confidence. They’re pleasant to be around because this quiet energy keeps us grounded.
Temperance can be defined as moderation, patience, and self-restraint. We are constantly surrounded by little temptations, but how much is too much? Responsibility may not be exciting, and Temperance may seem rather tame at first, but it’s a reminder to breathe deeply in the midst of turbulence -- to keep your balance and find your footing.
Temperance can serve as a signal we need to enforce more moderation in our lives. Even more so in the presence of cards with extreme energies (the Knights or Majors, for example). Temperance can indicate the need to come back to your center, to balance out. In terms of conflict, Temperance holds that compromise is something to strive for. Temperance also suggests that to come back to balance we need to add a new element - or cut one loose - to achieve our center.
