“No. I can take care of myself. If you really want to show a grand gesture of altruism, or whatever, there’s plenty of kids on the streets. Take care of one of them. I dunno why you’re so fixated on me.”
“I’ve fostered many children and helped them to find suitable families. I’m particularly concerned for you because you don’t appear to be in the best of health, and I think a night out of the rain may do you some good. I won’t push the matter, though, and i apologize for having bothered you.”
She bowed again and turned to leave.
xcrematedx:
“Yeah, no. I’m not fucking stupid. I know better than to trust big handouts like this. Find someone more naive for your organ harvesting or trafficking ring or whatever shady shit it is you have planned.”
Her soft expression turned to one of genuine hurt.
“You think I would... Ah, that’s fine, you don’t know me. You don’t have any reason to trust me. In that case, will you allow me to rent you a room in a hotel for the night? You choose the location, of course. “
@xcrematedx from here
“Such hostility. It’s understandable, people have probably not been very kind to you.”
She gave a slight bow.
“My name is Akane, and I would like to invite you to stay in my guest room, at least for the night... It looks like it’s going to rain.”
“O, what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive.”
silver-strings-of-fate:
“Their quirk?”
Yayoi frowned.
“No, they always gave me the cold shoulder whenever I brought that up. Maybe they’re quirkless and self-conscious about it.”
“A cold shoulder?”
Akane took note of the implication there - whether intentional or not, it might be a lead worth following.
“Well, I believe I have bothered you enough. Would you like something to eat, or should I have you sent home?”
silver-strings-of-fate:
Yayoi closed her eyelids over empty sockets. She mulled over what to say, what she actually knew as well. She didn’t want to give too much away.
“Well, they’d been here for at least a year, long enough for them to help me last time.”
That wasn’t necessarily helpful information. Everybody had been around for quite a while.
“Hmm.”
Akane pretended to consider this for a moment.
“Is there anything more you recall? Their quirk, perhaps?”
silver-strings-of-fate:
Yayoi was silent for a while. Part of her was tempted to give her one of the names she’d heard, Hakku, or someone similar. But that could be found out as a lie long before she was actually safe at UA.
“It’s not gonna be that easy.”
She sat up straight, fluffing her pillow a little and getting comfortable.
“I don’t know their name. We pretty much never talked to each other directly. I think I only ever saw their face maybe once.”
“Any details would be very helpful and will lead to your safe return, so please try to remember as much as you can.”
Akane was in no hurry to start torturing this child again. Though she was easily one of the more sadistic members of her organization, she derived no joy from harming women.
silver-strings-of-fate:
Yayoi slowly brought the glass to her lips. She didn’t want to risk spilling a single drop.
One she was sure she had the liquid under control, she tilted her head back and downed the whole thing.
“Thanks.”
Akane gestured once again to the various staff members in the ward, indicating for them to leave the room. Once everybody was gone, Akane turned her attention to Yayoi again.
“It’s just us here now. I would like you to tell me who was helping you. If you do, I will not reveal that you were my source, and I will personally return you to your school.”
silver-strings-of-fate:
Yayoi reached her hand out and weakly groped through the darkness to find Akane. She needed to know she wasn’t just hearing things.
“How about some tomato juice? That’s what I usually have for breakfast.”
“Of course.”
Akane gestured to one of the housekeeping staff, and a moment later a glass of tomato juice was brought over, which Akane carefully placed in Yayoi’s hands.
“Be careful, dearie.”
silver-strings-of-fate:
It took Yayoi a while to regain consciousness, especially considering she wasn’t allowed to have any new blood given to her. If her body wasn’t already used to such drastic changes in its blood levels, she wouldn’t be waking up at all.
Even then, when she woke, it was only barely. She’d need more time to fully recover.
Akane was waiting at Yayoi’s bedside with something akin to genuine concern. With the lack of eyes it was hard to tell that she was waking, but watching her muscles tense and her eyelids try to open and close made it apparent.
“Can I get you something to drink? I’m certain you could use some water.”
silver-strings-of-fate:
From the way Yayoi’s senses were starting blur and shut down, it seemed she wasn’t going to get to make that choice.
“Mmh, maybe later… I…”
Yayoi slumped forward onto Akane, completely unconscious.
“I do so often forget how fragile they are. A pity.”
She returned the dagger to its sheath and hoisted the unconscious girl over her shoulder. A trip to the medical ward would be in order, and then questioning could resume.
She deposited her into the arms of nursing staff with strict instructions to only revive her. No blood or iron was to be given.
silver-strings-of-fate:
This time, Yayoi didn’t scream. Instead she let out a pained grunt. The severe blood loss was starting to get to her.
Alright, she’d have to talk fast, before she passed out.
“Guess…ngh… guess I do have to spell it out for you. How do you think I found this place? How do you think I found the last one too? Only people who work here are supposed to know that, right?”
She paused to catch her breath and wipe the blood away form her mouth.
“I’ve got a friend here…”
Akane’s fingernails tapped along the flat of the blade. Betrayal from within the organization? Yayoi could be lying, but it did make sense.
“Give me a name and I will return your sight. If you do not, I will take your right hand.”
