I need to complain about this bcs ppl on twt are annoying me again: The Millsage MV came out and it's very cutes grief song and people are trying to make it ave mujica SDKJFHJKDSF Okay this is joke and not necessarily and I swear to god I don't have malicious feelings to ave mujica but I'm really annoyed cause its like "Hotaru is taking the place of the dead wife they are manipulating this middle schooler into being their dead wife" and im like. Okay. First of all. The song is in first person. The song is in. The first of person. This is a canonical song within the universe because it's an official song thus meaning they had to WRITE THE DAMN SONG and we don't know WHO wrote this one. But since it's in first person and seems to be referring to Hotaru in multiple ways...it's probably her! Thus, it means when she talks about this:

SHE'S TALKING ABOUT HERSELF. IF ANYONE IS INITAITNG THE DEAD WIFE RP. ITS HER.

Second point: It actually makes more sense if you read it from this lens. Hotaru is described as naive in the bio and people are like "oh that means...she doesn't know...she's being manipulated" which causes multiple problems (why would Hotaru not know the dead girl? Why would she write or even a sing a song like this without- realizing its about her, the entire band's aesthetic is formed around making songs about the dead girl, so on so forth) there's another way to read that and I think it makes more sense with how the song is in first person.

She's trying to be the strong one, the one who can hold all their emotions and feelings. Jokingly, the therapist friend. She's implied to not have much friends before this and just be a known talent. I think it's entirely plausible that a grieving middle schooler meeting the friends of people who are grieving the same person as her in trying to move on wants to give:

A handful of happiness, just for you.

I think, this is a Dear My Witchcraft Iyowa situation where Hotaru wants to "fix" things because it's the only way she can conceptualize moving forward from these feelings. Maybe (considering the line "Once I learn the meaning of warmth for the first time") even out of a sense of guilt for not feeling the "proper" emotions or for being unknowing. Whatever it is, it makes her want to bring happiness to others not because she's being manipulated and is clueless and unknowing of the true nature of their pain or whatever the fuck but because of an almost idealistically naive hope that if she can do this if she just tries. It's cutes.

Point 3: THE SONG IS LITERALLY CUTES

Say what you will about other bands. They do telegraph the tone and themes in the music. Ave Mujica was gothic horror so it was- fucking terrifying. MyGo was about loneliness and alienation and a feeling of not being human and a deep sense of melancholy so all the songs have this in the lyrics somewhere. Yumemita is most likely about a deep feeling of alienation from "normality" and "youth" wanting to stay in dreams and not deal with the horrors awaiting you outside so the lyrics are about this.

And Millsage. Wants to write a story about the complex troubles of moving on from loss and grief, and wrote a song about moving on from loss and grief where one of the characters talks about how SHE wants to be the way forward because its HER WAY of moving on from loss and grief. It's not trying to be Ave Mujica where a bunch of highscoolers are tormenting a middle schooler who knows nothing and it's going to be dramatic and gothic and scary. It's trying to be Millsage. Stop doing this to it jksdfjksdf
