I'm a queer disabled woman (over 30). I think MCU isn't good but I have an interest in some things from it. HP wasn't a good book series and Joker Owling wasn't a good writer. Zach Snyder isn't a good director. Fandom is a cursed space and I keep trying to leave but keep being dragged in. One day I'll leave. One day.
Oh hi. One of my posts got a little big and still keeps getting notes. So if you’re following me:
Hi! Welcome! Thanks for stopping by!
Some things about me. I’m a disabled and autistic bi/pan woman who was born in 1989. And I know what you’re thinking and you’re right, that IS the same year as Daniel Radcliffe, star of Swiss Army Man.
I have an AO3 account named CallusedSilk where I have all my fanfiction. I'm not currently writing anything and everything on there is complete.
Please don’t follow if you’re a minor.
I’m very particular about my ships and shows. If you have an HP fan account/username, then I’ll probably block you. This also includes if you still have your goddamn Hogwarts house in your bio. Both because JKR is a fucking bigot, but also the books are not good.
I also am highly critical of AO3.
My opinion is that while I like using the site, I have the following cricticisms:
1.) it is steadily growing into a monopoly, making it unlikely there will be a viable alternative anytime soon.
2.) on top of monopolizing being a writing site, it makes it difficult to prevent absorption of works or claiming of absorbed works.
3.) it does not function as an archive as you can delete things.
4.) they claim to pursue protection from censorship and the fans claim donating is imperative as ao3 is fighting legal battles even though they are mostly doing amicus briefs and the amount they put into legal funds isn't enough to handle an actual lawsuit at all.
5.) they do not prioritize actually teaching legal literacy to people so that they would know that cease and desist letters, without a lawsuit, is unenforceable.
6.) fans invoke the ghost of anne rice even though she never enforced her cease and desist letters and only sent them under bad legal advice about movie rights.
7.) the site claims to be anti censorship and uses that as an excuse to have no moderation even though banning underage erotica and bestiality and enforcing tags would not be censorship.
8.) fans insist that putting any limits on the site would lead to a slippery slope of LGBT content removal like on fanfiction.net. this is a false comparison. Fanfiction.net had incredibly vague obscenity rules, not explicit rules about underage fiction and bestiality. There are several porn/erotica sites with explicit rules about content that have lots of fanfiction, LGBT content, and even ads.
9.) there is no easy way to report abuse of content.
10.) even if there was, having it be volunteer only makes it so that people would not want to put someone else through the trauma of stumbling upon extremely underage rape with no tags.
i feel like we don’t give Andrew Garfield enough credit for trying to make Spider-Man bisexual in what was retrospectively an obvious ploy to date Micheal B Jordan.
Wow, Gordon Ramsay! Welcome to our restaurant, Dazzle Dazzle Dazzle. My name is Coconut McGee and this is my wife Papaya. We've owned this restaurant for 2.5 years and are 5 million dollars in debt. No, we have no restaurant experience, but we decided to buy one after a very vivid shared lucid dream on shrooms, and our food is 10/10. There are 6835 items on our menu and it's cooked by my cousin Chet. His culinary experience is that internship he did in a legitimately haunted house for a summer where he befriended the long dead owner and she taught him how to make a grilled cheese sandwich. The mold in our fridge has grown into a full person and is a sous chef now. We're all really proud. Can you help us save our restaurant? Also fuck you, what the fuck do you know about food, Gordo?
I'm gonna be so real with you guys. I'm gonna be 100% honest. I really don't care if writing HP fanfic or rereading the books or buying unlicensed merch actually I directly benefits Joanne. my objection first and foremost is that anyone who knows that woman's politics and still refuses to get that wand out of their ass is just an insufferable dork.
the people trying to "um actually" and give me their crybaby sob story about why it's impossible for them, personally, to move on from HP are so funny. like. I don't care. you can't appeal to emotion or logic me out of this my principled philosophical stance is that I think you suck.
at this point i expect hp fans to delude themselves more into thinking somehow its not what it looks like when theres literally no other way to look at it
Listen, I'm sorry y'all got swindled, but we had multiple season proving. The duffer brothers were never gonna be able to make a good series finale. They sure as hell aren't capable of a secret good ending.
Guys if you want queer shit written by queers on our own terms you're going to have to start seeking out weird independent media. I'm sorry that's the only place you can regularly find it idk what to tell you, we can't keep acting like there's nothing if we're not getting blockbusters and triple A titles or whatever it is we're waiting around for. The thing you keep saying you want is already being offered for free by one person making a passion project on the internet and you would both benefit enormously if you interacted with it instead of lamenting that the only options we have for representation are pandering afterthoughts from corporate shit
I say this with so, so much care: Real queer shit written by real queers can and will sometimes make you uncomfortable. That's one of the defining features of weird, independent queer media. And weird independent media more broadly. Art that comes from true individual passion and authenticity has edges and bite to it that mass market corporate products intentionally do not. Has a rawness that can offend.
You are allowed to feel uncomfortable about it. But don't ask for queers to self censor for your comfort.
people DESPERATE in the notes to explain why the way THEY engage with harry potter is morally pure. It's like white people talking about rap music in there! Libraries buy the books! Fanfiction maintains a conversation around the IP! There is NO WAY to enjoy harry potter in 2025 without publicly supporting JK Rowling!
Please stop fucking reading it so the library doesn't have to pay her money. I am a transgender librarian and I am not allowed to not replace old damaged HP books, people read them so we need to have them on our shelves, and what she does with the money doesn't factor into it.
STOP READING HARRY FUCKING POTTER.
I used to be into it! In-depth character analysis, wizard rock, irl quidditch, but when she outed herself as a piece of shit, I couldn't support it anymore!
ASK YOUR LIBRARY FOR OTHER BOOKS TO READ AND STOP READING HARRY FUCKING POTTER.
I forgot how goddamn funny it is that the unsub in future perfect does what he does because he saw a very old man when he was a kid. The episode came out in 2015, which means lives could have been saved by forcing this dweeb to watch It Follows and giving him a heart attack.
