Seriously folks review my books! Review everyone’s books!
It’s the difference between Amazon giving a damn about you verses pushing your book to the bottom of the food chain.

I bought this expensive ass yogurt as a gift to myself so that I could make little candles in the tiny terracotta pot it comes in and it turns out it is the best, creamiest, most buttery heavenly delicious yogurt I have ever tasted and I’m now addicted
sometimes things that are expensive are worse but sometimes things that are expensive are astronomically better and that’s where the real problem lies

ok seeing some people not sure what this means so to summarize it:
hypothetically speaking, if we could produce nuclear fusion on a commercial scale it would provide us with totally clean and practically unlimited energy. no radiation, no pollution, just energy. fusion is actually the process that powers the sun itself, so scientists have been attempting to recreate fusion for decades because it's essentially the 'holy grail' of clean energy sources.
up until now, while we've technically been able to recreate fusion, it has always taken more energy to actually make fusion occur compared to the energy the reaction puts out. but now we've finally had a reaction happen where it produced more energy than it cost. meaning that nuclear fusion is going to be seen as a fully viable and possible energy resource, so more funding will be put into it to try and improve the process. we're still decades away from potentially using it as an energy source, but this is a HUGE step towards unlimited energy with no environmental repercussions
here's an article on it!
US officials announced Tuesday that researchers have produced a nuclear fusion reaction resulting in a net energy gain. Follow here for live
Unironically the biggest death knell I heard for twitter was the fact that, as far as anyone is aware, there are no longer any furries working at twitter.

I'm not even joking furries account for like 30% of all modern tech infrastructure.
computers were born to be surrounded and supported by varnished wooden furniture. when you force them to live with particle boards and black plastic you make them very sick
left: healthy, supportive computer environment. some plants and a wooden desk would be nice, but the chair and loft ceiling make up for it.
right: youre killing her. shes dying
You may have something here. Look at how sickly and thin she's gotten.
how do you just get up and deal with the fact that there’s a last time for everything. there was a last time you sat on your dads shoulders and there was a last time your mom tucked you into bed. there’s going to be a last time you kiss your sister on the head and there’s going to be a last time you hug your best friend. there’s going to be a last time you feel exactly as you feel right now and there’s going to be a last time that person says i love you. i need to lay down

circling back around to the issue of writers being expected to do all their own goddamn marketing via social media these days, because it completely nixes the possibility of writers being weird shut ins, off-putting eccentrics, or misanthropes. 80% of the literary canon was written by weird shut ins, off-putting eccentrics, and misanthropes. if you weed out everyone who’s the wrong kind of insane to maintain a twitter presence, who on earth is left
i heard a talk about this by a terrific mystery novelist, John Straley, titled “In Defense of Misanthropes in the Arts.”
I’ll never forget him sharing his candid fear that authors like him, authors who did not want to post on Facebook or Twitter, authors who wanted to be curmudgeonly and left alone, were being steadily squeezed out of the writing world as publishers foisted more and more promotional work directly onto authors. Not everyone is cut out for the spotlight. Not everyone wants to be their own hype man. Not everyone presents well in 280 characters, especially in a space they don’t even want to be present. The time suck, the scrutiny, the punishment for making a “mistake” -- all this extracurricular work is so different from actual writing.
Make room for weird reclusive shut-in eccentric misanthropic artists and writers. Don’t forget those voices are worth your attention, too.

Making your characters insanely OP is good for your soul sometimes. Just juice em up. Just crank the dial. Make them absolutely batshit terrifyingly good at what they do
you get it
Sorry to bloat a nice succinct post with annoying detail, but I see a lot of people confused about how to write insanely overpowered characters, so the rule is:
A character must be out of their depth for the conflict they are facing in the narrative. They can be as overpowered as you like in absolutely any other regard.
(This applies to standard stories. If you’re writing some short cathartic piece of fanfic where tension doesn’t matter, go nuts, but if you want to maintain tension and engagement, this is the rule.)
Let’s take Superman, for instance. Superman is ridiculously strong, ridiculously fast, has unbelievable senses (particularly sight and hearing), and a few other niche abilities like flight and laser vision. So, how do you maintain any kind of tension or interest in a superman story? Well, you can put him out of his depth physically, by depowering him (via kryptonite or red sunlight) or by overpowering his enemies (giving him equally strong aliens or trickster gods to fight). Some writers take this route. Or, you can leave him as absurdly overpowered, and make the story about something else. Superman can take down twenty armed gunmen in the blink of an eye, but he can’t fight Lex Luthor-instigated public opinion that aliens should but out of human affairs. Superman can drag a sinking ship out of the water and rescue Lois Lane and all the other passengers, but Clark Kent can’t win Lois Lane’s heart or explain why she couldn’t find him among the evacuees. Superman can stop Braniac from hurting the earth, but he can’t do so and still recover the information on his birth planet that he so desperately wanted from Brainiac’s databanks. Superman can take down as many enemies as you want, as easily as you want, so long as that’s not what the actual conflict in the story is about. You can even make it *look* like that’s what the story is about, if you want. You can make Superman think that that’s what the story is about. But it needs to actually be about something else, something he’s weak at.
Such as, as the above tag suggests, being unspeakably powerful… but having psychological issues about it.
