She was always one to check up on him during his late nights, she’d always pop in and tell him to get some sleep before finally giving up for the night. It’s not like he slept much anyway. Even if he could, he wouldn’t. His dreams are too random for his liking.

He mutters before he gets up and moves towards the curtains. He moves them aside before cracking the window, letting some of the stuffy air out.

❝ You’re free to stay, if you want. ❞

The sigh that escapes her now is one of relief. The less she wants is to be a bother to her superior, mostly when he has most important things to deal with like a night full of work and no sleep whatsoever. But now that he has his permission----

Petra offers him a smile as a silent thank, nodding afterwards.

“I’ll be heading off to bed soon. But until I decide to do so... would you like to have some tea, sir? I was about to make some.”

He puts his pen down, leaning back in his chair. He figured it was about time for a break, anyway. Shaking his head, he crossed his arms across his chest and let out a deep sigh.

❝ I may be tired, but it doesn’t mean I’m sleepy, Petra. I could ask you the same thing: why are you awake? ❞

He motioned toward the chair in front of his desk with his eyes.

Deep inside, she wonders how the man before her is able to be so clear-headed during the day when it’s obvious that most of his nights are spent doing paperwork and whatnot, without getting some restful sleep (if he really gets any...) and having to deal with a great amount of responsabilities the next day. Just by seeing him, Petra somehow wishes to be able to send him to sleep or at least help him with that.

But she knows she can’t.

Now it’s him the one who formulates a question, one that catches off guard as well as the silent invitation to sit on the empty chair in front of him.

“I'm-- not sleepy either. Some concerns and whatnot have me awake, and I decided to take a walk until I feel sleepy again. It’s nothing very serious.“ She responds, taking the offered seat. Nothing very serious, indeed, just her father catching a cold. “I guess we’re on the same boat.”
