I’m back on my Batman kick and I have a genuine question. So the new Battinson movie’s (kinda sorta) confirmed to be in the works and I really wanna see a Robin but *which one* bc no matter what it’s gonna add some spice. So here’s my arguments for each Robin!
Ok so timeline wise this makes the most sense, and obviously Dick was the first Robin. But I think that he would force Bruce to confront his past trauma following his own parents’ death. Additionally, I feel like Dick is a direct reflection of Bruce, and the first time he tried to build up a hero who not only carries out his legacy, but is a culmination of his best traits without his flaws. Dick would allows him to give someone the childhood he wished he had and he can make Dick better than he ever was. Dick also has the initial acrobatic abilities that convinced Bruce he could be a capable partner.
I also think this could give us a look into Brucie Wayne, from making public appearances (the circus event) to his philanthropy (helping out orphanages/publicly adopting Dick).
Ok so I admit I’m a bit biased, but I think Jason could work really well into Batman 2. First of all, I think he could be a really great reflection/homage to the Penguin series. There, Penguin takes Victor under his wing after he tries to take his wheels from his car, the same way Batman finds Jason. This could be a great opportunity to bring Penguin/Sofia back into the fold, and it can show the difference between the Gothamites drawn to good and evil.
On another note, there are different villains that this story can center around, but I think it’s ultimately going to be the Joker (kinda disappointing bc I was hoping to see Pyg, more of Scarecrow/Penguin/Sofia, or even the Court of Owls, but alas…). This makes Jason being Bruce’s Robin so good… for the plot… not Bruce or Jason lol. But this brings the Joker into the fold, allows an opportunity for character complexity/development, and AGAIN forces the audience to look at Gotham as a whole. In that scenario, if Jason were to die, and as a parallel to Victor, we would see that Gotham shows mercy to no one (even sweet baby Jason), as each protege is killed whether they are “good” or “bad,” to put it simply. It also makes Bruce reevaluate his code and role as Batman, possibly setting us up for another film..?
I think ultimately, Jason is such a sweetheart and he worms his way into Bruce’s heart. He’s a vulnerability that the Joker can exploit, and it will only enhance Bruce as a character when it comes to complexity and humanization. I sincerely hope he doesn’t die bc I honestly STILL can’t believe ppl even voted him off in the first place, but I also didn’t think Penguin was gonna end how it did so we’ll see.
Tbh I feel like Tim is a realistic option— I say realistic bc the Battinson movies are pretty grounded in reality, and Tim being taken in as a Robin could be really simple and lowkey hilarious.
Like picture this: there will likely be a timeskip and I imagine we’ll see a lot of Brucie Wayne and galas. Bruce runs in the same circles as the Drakes, and they probably interact a lot. So imagine, Tim, the BEST detective, just walks up to Brucie and is like “I know your secret” and just blackmails him into letting Tim be his Robin 💀💀 and Bruce is just like “fuck it” 😭😭😭
I’m gonna be so fr I haven’t read a comic in forever and so my knowledge of Stephanie is lwk limited but FROM VERY MINIMAL RESEARCH… I feel like just from the way she was introduced, her being Robin is unlikely. However, I feel like Bruce could discover her working independently as Spoiler through some detective work that isn’t like- essential to the main plot but more as a means to set up the film. Anyway, he sees her dedication to justice and she, starstruck, asks to be trained by him. I think that she could be a really humanizing sidekick for Bruce. Like she’s very disarming in her ability to get close to people, and in the comics, Bruce opens up to HER specifically. She can reinforce Batman’s humanity and lean more into his image of hope that was established at the end of the first Batman. She can keep him grounded and make him remember his purpose when things get dark.
Ok so if Damian is introduced there needs to be a serious timeskip/some creative liberties but I feel like it’s totally feasible. I feel like there could be a mini plot twist where Talia is some kinda lover/ex (post timeskip) that is later revealed to be in the League of Assassins (which can be a nod to the Dark Knight films). But anyway I imagine Damian kinda being dumped into Bruce at some point, and he just has no idea what to do.
Like this kid, who was trained to be an Assassin, a better Batman, a weapon, who’s been abused and brainwashed, and yet still seeks guidance from the man he failed to become… it would sorta crush him. I think Bruce would admire his desire to do good, whether it’s out of spite or not, and it would reinforce his “no-kill” code, because THIS Robin would be evidence that rehabilitation *is* possible. That, even someone who’s been shaped into a weapon since birth, who has every reason to be evil, still seeks goodness. I also think Damian’s inherently gentle nature (art, his love for animals, etc.) would show Bruce that even those forced into evil still have the potential to be good. This would allow Bruce to acknowledge the complex nature of every hero/villain in Gotham, and tackle them with that knowledge.
Ok that’s it 🌝 I focused on the Robins mostly because I want to see Bruce in a fatherly position ON TOP of his role as a mentor, and him trying to strike that balance. The only reason I didn’t include Duke was because he’s a Meta and idk how well that would fit into this universe, specifically, but he’s my goat so.
Anywayyyyy if anyone wants to hear about the Babs/Cass/Duke lmk 😜 also lmk if you want to hear my thoughts on Penguin and Sofia because OH MY GOD I’m still not over them.
