James Dewees asked to officially become member of MCR, band recorded "like twenty-six songs that will never be heard" before split
In a recent interview with website Under The Gun Review, James Dewees, former touring keyboardist and Reggie and the Full Effect front man, talked about MCR and had this to say when asked directly about the band:
So, I donât want to talk about MCR hardly at all. But what do you think about the whole departure/breakup thing. Is it weird being with them for so long then watching it all end.
JD: It was weird because, as I got asked to join the band, I had played with them for seven years [already] and was asked to become a member of the band, sign a contract, all that shit, and live in LA for a year working on the record. Seven days a week, ten hours a day, writing music. We have like twenty-six songs that will never be heard. But at the same time, Iâve been their friends for a really long time, and I could see it coming. I mean I went through the first Get Up Kids breakup. Where it was like, I knew Matt was ready to go. So I could kind of tell that Gerard had the signs, like he wasnât happy, this wasnât what he wanted to do, he wants to go do other stuff. For me itâs always like, your friends and family comes first. So, I mean, he told me this is what he was thinking, and I was like, âHey, if this is what you want to do, itâs what you want to do. You shouldnât force yourself to do something you donât want to do.â When you hear bands do that, itâs like theyâre doing âthat.â âLike oh man, theyâre not writing good music anymore, theyâre doing it just to get paid.â If your heartâs not in it, you shouldnât be doing it.
We can move on from MCR.
Read the entire interview at the website for more mentions of the band and a little insight into their last recording experience.Â
Honestly the whole âmy favourite thing is inherently leftistâ feels like a knee jerk reaction to the right wing tactic of invading predominant white dude spaces like starwars for example and making it into a cesspit.
I understand the desire to not be in the chud filled fandom/subculture but saying ânuh uh you donât get it show me your leftism cardâ ainât the gocha you think it is. It reminds me of when liberals point out right wingers breaking rules in governments and hoping that theyâll somehow follow the rules if you simply point it out. like telling on your sibling to your parent. The problem is people like that do not simply follow the made up rules
Basically what Iâve been hinting at, If you wanna make a punk a nice community and subculture for everyone to enjoy you canât deny itâs seedy right wing past. If you know itâs past you can define its future for the better and a lot of bands are already doing that. But please you gotta do more than say âweâre inclusiveâ cuz hardcore kids are guilty asf of that and it simply being untrue.
i dont care if Monday's lit. Tuesday Wednesday touch my clit. Thursday i don't give a shit. it's Friday I'm in love
happy âreunited for longer than they were broken upâ day
how insane is this though. i remember where i was when the shrine show was announced
People on this site really overestimate how common Nazism is in the punk scene while completely ignoring Rock Against Racismâs 100,000 person concert/rally against the British National Front or Anti-Racist Action, a precursor to many modern antifa groups in the states, came out of the Minnesota hardcore scene. Like these two things alone dramatically outnumber the number of Nazis in punk.
Can you name a single Nazi punk band outside of Screwdriver? How many records and tours did they do compared to leftist punk bands such as The Clash, International Noise Conspiracy, Fugazi, Propagandhi, Refused or Gang of Four?
If you canât answer these questions or youâre unfamiliar with every band I named, this isnât the conversation for you. You can discuss what you do know which is shipping discourse and child rape fantasies.
People dream about a massively inflated number of Nazis in punk rock because of the opportunities it provides to assert superiority, posturing as a deep operative in a secret war, as well as the ability to just openly fantasize about violence against an acceptable target without ever being called upon to actually back that up. Especially in online communities, it provides an opportunity to essentially echo urban legends at people as a trump card and prove they are Less Punk Than You. No greater example of this is the dreaded lace code discourse, where posters -- even removed from the context of punk rock -- will police the boot lace colors of others based on entirely regional and inconsistent customs from the actual scene wars 30+ years ago that have been mythologized this much.
anyone who buys into the âkindness is punkâ âbigotry is NOT punk rock!â no true scotsman bullshit is getting sentenced to 10 hours GG Allin show footage. labels like Punk exist purely to sell you something
*asks a question* *gets an answer* âim not reading thatâ
i love that itâs a carefully worded, well-written, non-inflammatory answer too. which asker wouldnât know because they wonât read it. i love website

"A wall of text" baby that's a curb at best
the other day I read a compelling point that many instances described as illiteracy would actually be more aptly described as aliteracy, meaning an individual has the ability to read but simply chooses not to. great example here, awesome work.
We're lucky Gerard is the trans Way if it was Mikey he would never stop supportively yapping about how beautiful talented and brave their little sister/sibling is we would never get anything productive out of them again.
gerard would transition too as a show of solidarity

mymusician... oughh my little bug [remembers parasocial relationships are bad] [remembers infantilization is bad] this complete stranger is their own huge bug
Weird fact: there's kind of a divide in the car fucker community where the guys (it's all guys) who full on fuck the cars tend to be straight (and accordingly treat the cars as feminine) but the guys who get off on breathing in exhaust fumes/smoke tend to be gay (and accordingly have fantasies about other men revving their cars into their faces). There's definitely something psychosexual going on there.

Imagine if we did the âpublic libraries are punkâ thing for other subcultures. Imagine if people made shirts that said âSoup kitchens are grungeâ or âMixed Use Urbanism is Juggaloâ.
