So, is an unpopular take that the romance aspect of the social links in Exp33 was completely unnecessary and I was actually so thrown off by it?
Itâs not like itâs focused on a lot, itâs very minor, but it still feels like such an odd inclusion.
I was actually digging that we were going for like found family platonic vibes and then Sciel wanted to sleep with Verso and I was just like âwait what?â
Again, itâs very minor, doesnât affect anything, but I find it weird.

We already know that women who donât wear makeup are discriminated against in interviews. The next generation of interviewers were raised by Sephora and Ulta; itâs going to get worse, not better, unless thereâs a concentrated campaign on breaking the connection between makeup+professionalism.

Underrated JayVik moments/lines (17/â)
[Blink-and-you'll-miss-it.]
So, "fun" story: When I first watched Arcane, while I had already seen approximately 10.000 gifsets of JayVik's final 5 minutes crossing my dash, I knew hardly anything else about them, or how they would get to that point.
...So imagine my surprise when I witnessed Jayce just straight-up murdering the guy that I knew he would end up gazing at like this:
(Though, as I imagine, it was probably not that much less of a shock to people watching the show as it came out.)
In hindsight, of course I understand that it's very much by design that the viewer is kept in the dark about Jayce's motivations until the last possible moment (whether or not I agree with this decision and what it meant for the characters is another topic entirely... as in, you will never convince me that Jayce, if not for plot-imposed secrecy, wouldn't have tried to explain things to Viktor and would instead really just go "so anyway, I started blasting").
I assume we're supposed to think, at that point, that Jayce is either possessed by some force like the Arcane, went fully insane, or is indeed just out for Viktor's blood for some reason.
Which is why, upon second viewing, I found it even more incredible how Fortiche rrreally squeezed the absolute most out of the facial animations and, in fact, gave us a myriad of microexpressions which are supposed to still show us Jayce's true feelings once you know what you're looking for.
He may be looking at Viktor like a rabid raccoon most of the time, but then there's also:
The first time he hears (his) Viktor's voice again.
This part of his "split face" right before he shoots Viktor.
The dead last frame of this shot after shooting him.
Not to mention this sequence of faces as he stumbles out. just kill me it would hurt less
It's obvious enough once you know, yet subtle enough to remain obscured if you don't.
Also, another thing I want to draw attention to is how Jayce's "madness" stops the moment the deed is done (and only returns when Viktor does) - he is already fully lucid by the time he helps Caitlyn and Vi escape from the commune.
Which to me, looking back, indicates one thing specifically:
Jayce's mind freaking out on him to the brink of collapse until this moment wasn't just madness, or PTSD, or the touch of the Arcane.
He was waging outright war against himself to the point of dissociating to be able to do what he did to Viktor.
(Again - was it necessary for him to do it? I don't think the show really took the time to show us why it would be... but that wasn't the topic of this post.)

Commune Viktor commented on Jayce smashing Salo, saying it wasnât Jayce, that Jayce was under the influence of some being even he couldnât decipher
That was the Mage, who charged the crystal with his power and embedded it into Jayceâs arm. Jayce had failed in killing Viktor at least in his timeline, so he worked on ânudging â him into doing the right thing. It was part of Arcaneâs self-annihilation in a way

I really don't understand how "without getting kudos or comments a fanfiction author is going to assume that people who clicked their fic didn't like it" became a controversial take.
I don't know why some people think an author should imagine, or guess that people who click their fic enjoyed it it when nobody is telling them that.
If you're re-reading a fic constantly, or leaving it up in your tab so that it re-loads every day for a hundred days the author is not going to know that unless you tell them. They'd love to hear it. It would make their day.
And if you don't tell them you liked their fic, there's no reason for them to assume you did.

While 27 comments may not be much when someone gets them gradually, it's a lot to read through to make sure you're not contributing to unintentional spam.

I promise you there are vanishingly few authors who would be upset to receive more than one comment saying the same (positive) things!
If I receive multiple emails of comments on something I write, there is an actual zero percent chance of me being upset by it. Literally would make my day, week, month. Love your authors! Comments do not have to be detailed analysis - something as simple as â<3â conveys so much. (In fact, the very first comment I got on AO3 was â<3â and I treasure it.)
Spam your local fic author with comments. You never know what could happen.

I can't stress enough how fandom thrives when we are bouncing off one another. It's almost like playing pinballâwhere the goal is keeping your momentum, and therefore the game, going. Every positive interaction reinforces that you have made something enjoyable and drives you to create and share more.
And sure, some will point out there is the reward of a "high score" aka becoming a fandom name for consistently putting out a body of work. But honestly, since switching to a discord fandom space vs public social media I've been able to contextualize why I wasn't enjoying fandom much anymore: there has been a sharp drop off in online interactions. On discord, we are excited about the things we make between the 20+ of us. We blast emojis and gifs at each other, hyping one another up by talking about the thing we've shared and then spinning more ideas from it. We feed each other with our enthusiasm for putting Characters in Situations together and thus we continue to create more. When I shared the same work in public spaces, I was lucky to see even a comment or even a reshare. So steadily I just didn't share work publicly because it was more fun creating for this group of now-friends than the lack of community I was seeing in social.
Whether it be out of worry for being a freak on main, not wanting to bother a creator, etc, people are withholding their enjoyment of the fandom contributions where creators can see it. And I think it is a travesty to hoard that joy where the person who made it can't see the impact they had on you. (That's the ⨠magic ⨠of fandom!!)
And some will argue that artists and writers shouldn't chase the approval of others, simply enjoy the act of creating. To which, yes and fuck your weird puritanical purity standards. I am a social creature and I am allowed to love seeing comments about how/why people have enjoyed the thing I have made.
Because, like a pinball, without the sustained momentum, you can't be surprised when it all falls into the gutter.
Liking a fanfic or not is not always about the quality of the work, it has a lot to do with how you connect with the canon material on a personal level or how your head canons match others, and it can be very subjective. Even for people shipping the same pairs there can be many nuanced disagreements. Having either popular taste or unpopular taste is good as long as you enjoy it, sometimes you wrote down an idea for yourself and that one person who resonates with it
