Size 12
This could be the biggest over share I’ve ever had on the internet. You have been warned. I even use the word sexy. (shock horror!)
So ever since I was big enough to fit in adult size clothes I’ve been a size 10. I’m not going to lie to you I’ve been rather proud of my size 10-ness and it’s taken me to being 2.75 months married to realise what a plonker (a word taken from my father) I’ve been.
I’ve don’t think I’ve ever particularly worried too much about my size except for the occasional panic about fitting in my wedding dress and the normal teenage worries. However after marriage I have put on more weight and it’s quite common to do so and normal (at least that what all you married folk keep telling me) but that has meant one (being me) cannot fit into one’s (me again) jeans anymore. This has caused quite the upset in my brain because *I* am a size 10. I have always been a size 10. I am a size 10 Lucy-Rose. But Lucy-Rose is not defined by her size and she is also aware that spilling out of her jeans is NOT a good look. Up the top are some before and after photos which do not do enough justice to the difference but hopefully you’ll get the idea as my size 10 skinny jeans were actually leaving marks in my skin where they were squeezing every inch of me into them. That, my friends, is not comfortable.
So long story short. I went out and with much anticipation tried on my first size 12 pair of skinny jeans and do you know what? It was the best thing I’ve ever done. I felt great because my body looked GOOD in them. I wasn’t SQUEEZING every bit of myself into jeans that didn’t flatter me at all for the sake of my pride and my determination to remain a size 10. I was suited to this size and this felt good. My lesson was learnt: wear clothes that make you feel confident, NOT a size.
Now a lot of people tell me that I shouldn’t worry about my size, that I’m not big but at the end of the day it’s all about our own perceptions of ourselves. I appreciate the encouraging words but I’d already fallen into the age old trap that I’m pretty sure everyone falls into at some point in their lives that size matters and it DOESN’T. It does not. Sometimes we need to say it out loud to ourselves:
‘SIZE DOES NOT MATTER. SIZE DOES NOT MATTER. SIZE DOES NOT MATTER.’
What matters is being happy and healthy in body and mind.
What I’m trying to get at is; let’s not get hung up about the sizes we’re wearing but the clothes that make us feel confident and quite frankly sexy as heck. (But also appropriately… keep your bottom inside your shorts please because I really don’t think we should let everyone see everything but I’ll save that post for another day).
Women AND men(this applies to you too!) don’t need to be defined by a size to love their bodies. They need to love their bodies as they are and dress it clothes that fit them well.
My old jeans were not flattering. My new jeans make me feel great. I’m a size 12, 5'9.2 high lady. I have *finally* developed my curves at the age of 21 years 9 and ¼ months. AND that’s the reality. They’re CURVES. Proper lady curves and which maybe somewhat of a shock and moderately terrifying to begin with… but I’m also just becoming exactly how I was made to be. And so are you.
Writing with this guy today... this song had me up 'til 1am this morning. Feeling good about it 😏 #singer #songwriter #tired #sleepneeded #music #guitar #electricguitar #wheresezragone
