You’re looking at the biggest heart ever preserved from an animal 😱 This once belonged to a blue whale that died trapped in ice on the shores of Newfoundland, Canada. A team from the Royal Ontario Museum salvaged the 180 kg (400 lbs) organ, pumped it full of nearly 2,650 litres (700 gallons) of formaldehyde to stop decomposition, and then handed it over to a German team specialising in plastination - a preservation method which strips tissue of water molecules and replaces them with a silicone polymer.
