Brinley smiled softly at the male who had approached her, wondering what went through his mind as it was obvious that he was thinking about something while she spoke about the copy of Alice in Wonderland in her hands and she tilted her head a little to the side as she motioned for him to sit, and Brinley couldn’t help but wonder if that was what he was considering. “I don’t bite, you know,” Brinley spoke playfully and stuck her tongue out at him before a chuckle escaped her lips. Shaking her head, the dark-haired woman looked at the book once more as she couldn’t help but wonder if she looked scary or not. She noticed his face brightening at the realization of which book it was and it didn’t shock her. Everyone between heaven and Earth seemed to have, at one point, read Alice in Wonderland. Or, at least seen the movies at one point as there had come out more than one. It’s a bit weird, come on. She laughed and rolled her dark eyes then shrugged her shoulders.
“Okay. Maybe a little bit,” she responded and winked at him. I’m Luke, thanks for not thinking I’m weird. Brinley laughed genuinely and nodded her head at the words coming from the male’s mouth, “You’re my than welcome, Luke. Nice to meet you.”
I love that book. The smile on Brinley’s lips almost made her face explode. I haven’t read it since I was like, twelve. But I’ve been searching for a copy and I’ve never found affordable ones, they’re always those fancy ones and they’re fucking expensive. The girl hummed understandingly, as she knew what he meant and where he was coming from. Do you mind telling me where you got it? “Actually, I - I got it from my Dad years ago for Christmas,” she spoke softly and swallowed the lump in her throat at the mention of her Dad. “Um, I do have another copy at home though. If you want, you can have it?” The brunette shrugged her shoulders and she softly bit her bottom lip. “I accidentally bought a copy and then I got this one from my Dad and I didn’t have the heart to tell him that I already had it,” she said and laughed softly, “But, I love this copy more anyways, so you know… If you want, you can totally have it? I’ll gladly help a fellow book-lover out.”
luke let out a chuckle in defeat at the woman’s words. in a few seconds, his backpack was leaned against the bench the two of them were sitting and despite his formal attire-- if you could say that, since the redhead wore to work the least formal outfit possible, what he thought he would manage to wear and get away with it; a white dress shirt under his coat and his worn out, black jeans-- he sat comfortably. “ nice to meet you too. ” he replied with a lazy smile resting on his lips. he thought about making a comment about how nice she was and how she probably was hiding some sort of federal secret or wanted to kill him but concluded that maybe it was too early for his strange humour, and on top of it all, the book talk had him too entertained for his mind to come up with his usual sarcastic, witty responses. maybe he could be real with her.
the guy hummed as he listened to brinley with attention, his head moving in a tiny nod every once in a while. he couldn’t help but notice the explicit different between their parents when it came to that particular book-- hers had given it to her whereas his couldn’t even dream he rented on the public library when he was twelve or eleven. that sort of realization was so common when talking about other people’s parents -- or at least the ones outside of his circle in canaryville-- that jealousy or envyness wasn’t on the list of the sentiments he felt-- he was afraid he’d become apathetic to how toxic his folks were-- still are -- to him. instead, luke admired how she talked about her father and smiled. “ that’s cool. yeah, i bet this copy holds more sentiment. ” he agreed before he acknowledged the last half of her sentence, his eyes wildening as he did.
