Look I do. Genuinely. tend to keep most of my hater opinions pretty close to the vest. Because like okay, you liked the thing I think kinda sucked, I don't need to go ringing your doorbell about it. We can agree on that.
But I feel the sleeper-phrase activation in myself whenever I see a take like "um if you didn't like it it's actually because you didn't understand it!!!!" and i have to like. Take a walk around the block before I morph into Ron Swanson.
this is in perfect iambic meter and sounds like the first line of a weird poem
Rule #2
Donât ever hug a lobster when you see one on the street,
For decorum is essential when a lobster you must greet.
You may comment on the weather, compliment his choice of hat,
But crustaceans like their space if one should stop them for a chat.
Donât ever hug a lobster when youâre strolling down the coast,
Simply nod and give a greeting, or a handshake at the most,
For a lobsterâs first priority is formal social graces,
And one seemes over-familiar if a lobster one embraces.
Donât ever hug a lobster when you meet one in the sea,
For a lobsterâs spines and chitin make it difficult, you see,
And he might become self-conscious if you bring that fact to light,
So donât ever hug a lobster, simply put, itâs impolite.
awww the like button turns into a rainbow when you press it! that's so cute...hey staff what's with all the trans women you keep nuking?
i think we should be ridiculing them more for this. you don't get to try and go all "queer website" when your staff likes to go on nuking sprees targeting the trans fem users
would be remiss not to mention that the rainbow notably straight up just removed the trans flag colors from it. like theyâre gone. itâs the progress flag minus the trans flag colors.
thatâs not the whole flag, now is it
hey staff what the fuck
WaitâŠwhy are busses depicted as a dangerous way to commute in American media?
I never really thought about it before but busses are one of the safest ways to commute to work I can imagine. Iâm not ever worried when I take the train but if I had to pick which Iâd feel more safe on it would be the bus.
I used to travel between towns late at night when I was a teenager/young adult woman and it would be straight up cozy and a nice way to end my day.
I think a bus feels safter to me because the driver is always right there in case something happens, while youâre kinda on your own on a train late at night.
So did you ever see Who Framed Roger Rabbit? Remember the plotline about the Red Car trolley being bought out and dismantled by Cloverleaf, and the villain's Big Reveal that they planned to demolish Toontown and put a highway through it, and people would use it because the Red Car trolley wasn't there to use anymore and so they'd be FORCED to buy a car?
That really happened, in the US. Only instead of the villain being an evil cartoon posing as a judge, the villain was General Motors and Ford and all the big car companies. They bought public transit lines and dismantled them. They lobbied congress to fund the interstate highway system and they CONTINUE to lobby the us govt to keep trains and public transit from having any money, while making sure the roads get lots of it. They are responsible not only for the dismantling of public transit but also the public's perception that public transit is bad and even dangerous.
American media thinks busses and trains are dangerous because the car companies have spent DECADES and billions of dollars on propaganda making sure Americans think that so they will continue to buy cars and not question how much roads and highways have destroyed the landscape.
its also a healthy dosage of classism and ableism and a hatred of homeless people and addicts all of which are the largest demographic of people who use the public bus
"Can such-and-such a person ever be redeemed?" I don't believe there is or could be or needs to be such a thing as redemption because I am not a Catholic, therefore the question is vacuous and incoherent. Next question.
Not wanting to have sex is NOT a problem. It doesnât matter if you are asexual or allo, there is nothing wrong with not wanting sex. Itâs just an activity. Thatâd be like saying that if you donât like soccer, you need to go to soccer therapy to figure out why you dislike it and figure out how to like it because itâs for your own good. See how ridiculous that sounds? IT IS OK TO NOT WANT TO HAVE SEX AND IT IS NOT SOMETHING THAT NEEDS TO BE FIXED!!!!!!
and ever since then
stop. analyse that text through the lens of its author's intentions and original historical context. okay now take the author out back and kill them dead and analyse that text as though it were published by your mutual yesterday and is in direct conversation with the contemporary discourse that's most relevant to your life. okay now pick your favorite angle of interpretation and come up with the strongest possible argument against it. now imagine that the text is your best friend and that it means you well and that you naturally give it every benefit of the doubt because you're on its side and you want the best for it. now imagine that the text wants you dead and it'll eat you if you don't eat it first. now pretend that you found this text locked away in a cave with no evidence of when or where it came from and you have to divine its meaning solely through its internal coherence and nothing else. okay now address the elephant in the room aspect of the text you've been ignoring because you find it boring or confusing or uncomfortable and become the number one expert on it. now spend forty minutes assigning all the characters dnd classes with at least three sentences of reasoning each. okay now do the cha cha slide.
A YA romantasy writer filed suit against another writer for copyright infringement, and as is always the case with these things, she padded her claims with delusionally spurious examples. The judge issued a 160-page ruling against the plaintiff where you can tell from the start how resentful they (or whatever clerk actually did the work) are to have been forced by duty to have read the works in question.
"Alaska is a place known to the public, so setting a novel in a Alaska is not copyrightable."
media literacy includes understanding why a media product was made, to whom it's being sold, and the assumed preferences of its marketing demographic. narrative is not produced or sold in a vacuum.
you might be totally correct that your ship would be narratively satisfying. I don't know, I'm not watching your show. Whether your ship is likely to happen on the show is a whole different question to whether it's satisfying, because the show is being sold to Netflix or Amazon or the BBC, and they are purchasing a show they think they can market to a particular demographic and that demographic isn't you, the nightmarishly online tumblr user. The show is being made for marketability to a constructed average viewer. It is being funded with that audience in mind. This art is being made to commission, and commissioned art is art, but at some point you have to stop expecting the Church to commission a statue of Lucifer fucking St Michael. It might be narratively satisfying, but that's just not what they're paying for.

Some days writing one thousand words is something you just kind of do to keep your hands busy between sips of coffee and some days writing one thousand words is the hardest fucking thing you've ever done in your life
it's kind of insane how disasterous of an effect it can have on your psyche and development as an adult if people thought you were annoying when you were 8
by the way, before other nations get the bright idea to take hungary's win as proof that "vote x no matter who" is a valid election tactic, let me make it super clear that no it is not. that is not at all why the opposition could win after 16 years.
to make an incredibly long story short, and to use the words of magyar péter, the reason they won with a landslide is because they put in the work.
for months prior to the election, the party (which btw was an insignificant party until mere two years ago when magyar joined) with magyar péter as their main guy, toured the country to an unprecedented degree. they went to small cities and places which have been neglected by all sides for decades, with magyar always giving a speech. and, perhaps most importantly, talking to and with the people there directly.
people have been wanting a new approach, new people for years and they utilized this well: they involved the public in their operations and nominee selections via social media/apps, and formed a strong team made up of actual experts of various fields, some known some unknown, but all fresh faces. they also spoke against fidesz while explicitly being against blaming fidesz voters.
in 2022 we did have a "vote x no matter who" moment, where the campaign of the (coalition party!) opposition did not do the above listed crucial strategic points, and fidesz won with the most votes they've ever gotten.
the moral of the story should be that everyday people, regardless of their political views, need to feel heard, seen and involved. and they need to be talked to as people, even if their views are misinformed, hateful, or straight up unacceptable. the far right knows this, which is why they can gain popularity time and time again.
political parties and leftist people alike, especially in countries which are in a similar situation as ours, need to understand that they cant win just by saying they are the better choice. they have to show up unrelentingly, prove that they are different in tangible ways, be consistent with what they stand for, put in years of nonstop work and, perhaps most importantly, be as close to the people as possible.
I love you madoka magica. Sorry that you got the blame for the bajillion âdark subversionsâ of the magical girl genre that are just torture porn. You were actually good
This kid is awesome
Cute how people who say this shit dont say transphobia doesnt exist just because shitty parents might kick out a trans kid because they think it's because they're gay. It's all terrible and parents being bigoted and neglectful and abusive. To parents like that it doesn't matter if you're gay or trans or ace, it's all the same to them and they don't want you in their family.
Using this as a "gotcha" to belittle the experiences of those who've gotten kicked out after coming out with the bonus of not even being believed for what they came out as is disgusting.
If you're someone who's so wrapped up in your exclusionary ideology that you're denying the experiences of fucking children kicked out of their homes and abused after coming out, for the love of whatever you believe/don't believe in, fucking re-evaluate.
Also to everyone like âthis fake, aces donât get offered conversion therapyâ
In this recent UK study cis asexuals were the most likely to have conversion therapy equal to cis gay/lesbian people. And the most likely to have it offered.

Stop basically yelling Fake News!1 and re-evaluate why you refuse to listen to victims of abuse.
Also people should stop reblogged this with âwhy would a parent kick a kid out for not having sex??.â
1) Stop equating sexuality to behavior. Donât do it with gay people, donât do it for ace people.
2) Faith based groups, especially those who are not pro-LGBTQ donât magically see aces as acceptable. They view them as not-straight therefore wrong.
3) If you are abstinent itâs supposed to be a sacrifice you suffer throughïżŒ to show your strong faith. Sex is meant to be your reward for being married. Being abstinent in a faith based groups works until you are meant to get married, be fruitful, or summit to your husband. The moment you decide you donât want any of that for yourself now or in the future itâs a seen as a problem.
4) Youâll note that lots of number 3 is sexism, sex negativity, and the forced continuation of nuclear families something that directly and indirectly adds to homophobia and transphobia. And instead of saying âhey this ace, this victim of abuse, gives us an opportunity to discuss all of those wrongs in society, plenty of people just reblog âbut why would you kick a virgin out??â
