the first thing u need to understand about athletes is that they are cringe losers bc they skipped school in hopes of never having to work a real job. the second thing you need to understand abt athletes is that they are first and foremost workers whose years of lucrative labour are capped by the very real limit that the strain of that selfsame work puts on their bodies which means they retire at an age before most people's careers even really take off and are expected to get by for the rest of their lives on the money they earned those few years. the third thing you need to understand is that they want to fuck their coworker.

I've been playing dredge for the first time and I'm almost done with the main quest line (at devils spine now) and I love the game a ton.

One of my favorite areas was twisted strands because it's the first area that made me question if I really should be interfering with the Creatures™. Like yes, the tentacle dudes did eat a bunch of random airmen, but also, that's just kinda something that happens if prey wanders into the path of a predator. And watching them get caught in the traps just made me sad. Like, they're beautiful, and if you learn how to avoid their wrath, you could coexist alongside them pretty peacefully.

The creature in stellar basin feels much more sinister than the one in twisted strands--the researcher has evidence that it's causing harm to the ecosystem. We never see evidence the same is true for twisted strands, at least I haven't so far.

I think it's a real accomplishment that the game manages to make you feel conflicted about the destruction of an eldritch horror.

I don't care at all for the current dominant framing of weapon durability in rpgs as an incentive to force you to switch between weapons, in part because I also don't like the idea of an rpg where your character is carrying around a million weapons that are all disposable and largely unrelated to their characterisation

now, I'm also of the mind that no weapon maintenance isn't a good thing, and I don't come at this from the angle of removing friction from games (just from the angle of thinking gear should feel authentically material and substantial) so I occupy a secret ideological space where I think weapons shouldn't be deleted when they break, and should take a long time to do it, but that you should have to drop your gear off and put in a work order for a few days to repair it, like in daggerfall
