I could be wrong, but I think maybe I get it now. When Jax almost abstracted in ep 7, he was smiling. Maybe abstraction is some faulty code thing accidentally left over from Caine trying to fix Scratch that causes anyone who feels immensely sad to be "fixed" automatically, to be happy.

Trying to sleep and failing so bad because Gummigoo the very first person to give Pomni hope, or at least have kickstarted being more open. Because she saw someone who was equally having an existential crisis in the face of a new situation like she was and her conversation with him is what establishes Pomni’s empathetic nature

And for Caine to take that experience from her and twist it into something that tortures her

But for it to be paralleled in the new ad puts Caine in Pomni’s place, which puts Pomni in Gummigoo’s place

Pomni was the first one to really show empathy towards AI and I still believe this gave Caine hope in forming connections with the humans at the time, but since communication goes both ways and at the time he never really made an effort to truly understand the humans, the humans in turn never truly understood him
