Shane needing to get his wisdom teeth out late in life. He comes to after surgery and he's loopy as all hell, even moreso than when he got knocked out on the ice. He sees Ilya and is immediately enamored, telling him earnestly that he's the most beautiful thing he's ever seen. When Ilya laughs and reveals to him that they're already married, Shane is in absolute shock but has never looked happier.

after their relationship goes public, ilya finally sends shane all the selfies he's taken but could never send before—in the mirrors of road trip hotels, on his messy bed after shane leaves his house in ottawa, in shane's living room when shane wasn't paying attention, and so many more—and shane saves all of them into a new, special album on his phone and tries not to cry.

Shane: I’m sorry buddy
Hayden: Hey first of all, it’s my fuckin baby!
Shane: Four times
Hayden: And second- Oh- Wait. Do I have all the kids?

Because Shane is gay and has a good relationship with his parents and also can drive, I’m a firm believer that he’s bad at math and has to call Ilya about it ALL THE TIME. Like Shane is known as a really generous tipper at restaurants but really it’s just because he doesn’t know how much to pay so he panics and just gives them $500 for a $40 meal if Ilya is busy and can’t come to the phone.
But halfway through the season he’ll be like “we actually have exactly an 84.735% chance of making the playoffs if we win tonight’s game” and Ilya is like sweetheart wtf

your assigned ilya of the day is simply no match for POOL SHARK!!
Shane’s reading in bed and Ilya swoons a little and tells him how cute and sexy he is, and they’re husbands now, they have all the time in the world together so they can do boring things, so Ilya crawls under Shane’s arms and snuggles into his chest and says, “Read it to me.”
“What?”
“Read, out loud. It’ll be nice. What cute couples do.”
And Shane rolls his eyes and snorts a little laugh but complies because damnit it is what cute couples do and they’re a cute ass couple.
But then he starts reading aloud some hockey autobiography or non fiction about strategies and success stories and Ilya lasts about 15 minutes before going “Oh my god this is actually so boring,” and leaning up to kiss Shane hard.
Just because they can do other things than fuck doesn’t mean it’s not still the best option

spoilers for the long game
- shane continues to be no nonsense despite being out and everything. his goals have not changed, and now he has another hill to climb to remain in his role at the top of the nhl
- shane is voted team captain once he's fully established with the centaurs, after a season or two. ilya is more than happy for him and believes it's the right choice
- shane and ilya keep things strictly professional. their teammates know nothing about their sex life, and can only occasionally tell if they're in the midst of a marital dispute
- hollanov go to plenty of team outings. they want to spend time alone together, of course, but they love that they can be out together in public as husbands
- although shane has mostly come to peace with no longer being in montreal, he is still quietly angry about it sometimes
- shane and ilya still find ways to compete, of course. usually it has something to do with scoring
- shane gets along just fine with most of the team and personnel. he does find harris to be a bit much, however, and isn't troy’s biggest fan either
- people are often surprised that hollanov don't get sick of each other, since they live and work together. shane usually ignores people, but ilya boasts about apparently having the only happy marriage in the world
- just about every business in the city of ottawa fights to get hollanov in their silly local commercials. shane would normally only do one or two of those, but ilya thinks they're hilarious, so they do many
- shane’s version of the video series with harris (like bood and ilya do) is about yoga, maybe called “shane’s salutations”
when you're presented with glorious full frontal and instead you're gazing deeply into their eyes. love baby love

I want to see adorable domestic Shane and Ilya in the snow. Maybe it starts with one of them shoveling, but then it turns into an overly competitive snowball fight, which of course evolves into a heavy makeout session in a pile of snow 😍
