please please please I am begging you—pirate! Music, movies, video games, graphic novels, tv shows—anything without commercial value is disappearing. One of my favorite gospel groups? We have just half of their recorded songs. And that’s only because music buffs digitally saved the songs we do have from old records.

And now? We have a new problem. AI and data surveillance (NSA has the biggest data center in the world) are gobbling up both server space AND the electricity needed to run data centers. Which means—there is a growing push to delete the ‘useless’ stuff hogging up increasingly valuable digital space.

Cartoon and anime fans are saving old shows that have been dropped from catalogs. People are digitalizing documentaries from old VHS tapes, and video games from old cartidges and floppy drives. Fans are making sure rare DVDs and canceled shows are being preserved. But pirating—downloading and sharing copies—is the only way to make sure their efforts are successful. The more copies, the more chances for survival.

Don’t just pirate because you hate corporations—pirate because you want future generations to be able to enjoy the things you love.

I truly truly believe that the most important thing you can do in fandom is be a cheerleader. comment on fics. reblog art and rave in the tags. support the people making the things you want to see. this is how you keep a fandom alive. this is how you get more of what you want. you never know: that person could have decided to make more just because you liked it.
