pairing: lo’ak sully x omaticaya!reader
warnings: swearing, lowercase intended, lo’ak is kind of an asshole, angsty
synopsis: you have been helping lo’ak and his siblings learn about the ways of the water ever since they arrived, but what will happen when you eavesdrop on a conversation between them?
a/n: this is my first fic so its probably real shitty, soooo..
𝐘𝐎𝐔 had been helping the sully kids every since they had arrived, and unlike your brother, ao’nung, you actually weren’t bothered by two of them having four fingers. neither was your sister, tsireya.
maybe it was because not everybody is the same. maybe it’s because you’re just nice and accepting. or maybe it was because you had grown very fond of one of them.
sure, you liked all of them, but you definitely had your favorites when it came to different topics. your overall favorite had to be lo’ak though.
you didn’t know why, or how you developed this crush on the boy, all you knew was that you liked him so much and you never wanted to live a life without him.
you and tsireya were currently looking for the sully siblings, ready to start training for the day. ao’nung didn’t come today as he was helping your guys’ dad teach jake how to ride a skimwing.
after a couple of minutes, you guys had finally found them. they were all near the dock. the two boys, neteyam and lo’ak, were sitting of the edge of the dock with their feet dangling over and into the water. the two girls on the other hand, kiri and tuk, was in the water, splashing one another.
you sighed, feeling relieved that they were okay. you and your sister started to jog towards them before you started hearing the brothers conversation.
“what’re you thinking about?” neteyam nudged lo’ak a little, causing him to look up from the water after he was caught zoning out.
“nothing.” he looked back at the water.
“you’re obviously thinking about something…or more like someone.” the oldest grinned a little.
at this point you had stopped in your tracks wanting to see where this talk was going. tsireya had stopped too, standing next to you, also eager to hear about this.
neteyam’s statement caused lo’aks head to snap up.
“someone? why would i be thinking about someone?” he scoffed slightly.
neteyam just shrugged in response.
”i mean, who would i even be thinking about,” lo’ak nervously laughed.
“oh, i don’t know..maybe y/n? you know, the girl that you can never take your eyes off of?”
tsireya and your eyes widened a little. you then looked at each other. you gulped nervously, trying to hide the blush that was showing on your face.
“what? ew, no! why would i fucking like her?” lo’ak responded.
“she’s weird, i mean i guess she’s a little bit pretty, but there’s no way i would want to be mates with her! she’s also really annoying, bitchy, and she never shuts the fuck up!” ouch.
you didn’t know if you should have taken that seriously or not, but you did. how could you not? the one boy you finally start to have strong feelings for calls you weird and says he would never want to be your mate.
tsireya looked at you and saw how tears were threatening to fall from your eyes. you looked back at her and she had this sympathetic look on her face, as if she was about to cry herself.
before you could start walking away from it all, you heard tuk’s voice.
“y/n! tsireya! there you guys are! what are we going to learn today?” the little girl rushed out of the water and onto the dock to give the two of you a hug.
at this point, kiri was sitting next to neteyam, wringing all the water out of her hair. the two boys also had turned around to face you guys.
you quickly wiped the tears away before they could see and hugged tuk back. unfortunately, somebody did see.
“hey, are you okay, y/n?” lo’ak questioned, looking straight into your slightly pink eyes. he had that look on his face.
he had that dumb, stupid look that made you fall for him in the first place. you wished you could just erase it away. at that moment, you had wished you could erase him away.
“yeah, of course, why wouldn’t i be?” you smiled.
“i don’t know, you just look…sad?”
how could he say that? how could he say that knowing that just seconds earlier he was calling you weird and annoying? he’s acting like he wasn’t just saying those rude things about you.
you wanted to yell at him. tell him that you heard it all. but you didn’t. you don’t know why you didn’t, you don’t know why you didn’t say mean things back.
but that’s just how you were. you would always give people a second chance, no matter what they have done or said to you.
“well, i’m fine? now can we just get started already? gosh.” you snapped, taking the boy back.
he didn’t say anything, he just simply nodded.
the rest of the day had gone by smoothly. you didn’t say much throughout training, which caught the attention of a certain somebody.
you had dismissed everybody and began to walk away until you heard a voice call out your name. you turned around to see the very last person you wanted to see.
“y/n! hey, can i talk to you really quick?” lo’ak ran up to you, panting a little as you were trying to walk away as fast as you possibly could.
when you saw his face. it made you want to cry. it reminded you why you were angry with him in the first place.
what made you even more angry though was how he was acting like everything was ok. he was making it seem like he didn’t just break your heart into a thousand pieces. and the worst part of it all?
“sure,” you stated while showing a fake smile to him. he didn’t notice.
lo’ak led you away from his family so they couldn’t hear your conversation.
“are you alright? like, honestly? you were awfully quiet during training and you weren’t being your usual self today?” he had asked you.
“no, yeah! i’m doing just fine, thanks for asking.” you wanted to punch him in the face.
“jeez lo’ak, i said i’m FINE!” you raised your voice, taking him back. again.
“oh..okay.” he tried to hide the fact that he felt sad that you had just yelled at him, but he always fails to hide anything and everything.
you noticed how his eyes turned a little bit shiny. you saw his ears droop down. and you didn’t miss how his tail stopped going from side to side, resting on the sand.
you tried not to feel bad. i mean, he did just say the most hurtful things about you.
you took a deep breath and smiled at him again.
“i’m fine, lo’ak. just a little tired is all,” you had responded in a much softer tone.
you walked past him, trying to hide the fact that you too were sad. you weren’t his, nor was he yours. you loved him, you really did. but he didn’t love you too. and he would never love you.
