❝ do you see finn or elijah spending all day climbing trees they’ve been
TOLD to stay out of? ❞
there were many ways to make the witch’s resolve falter, even if only for a moment,
HOWEVER her c h i l d r e n acting as if they knew better than she did was not
one of them. especially not when every rule she enforced was for THEIR benefit.
how many mothers in the village had the means to fix whatever trouble their children
got themselves into with a simple remedy? maybe, just MAYBE next time any of
them came home to her with one injury or another she would let them heal naturally
—- perhaps then ( the younger ones, especially ) would take her words as
seriously as they did their father’s.
❝ i don’t remember asking what i’ve told your brother but —
if both feet aren’t on the ground in a minute there won’t be any lessons
until after the next full moon. ❞
truthfully, after finding henrik in such a state, esther wasn’t sure she WANTED to
know what her next two youngest were doing with their afternoon. how much easier
it would be to c o m p l e t e l y disregard her original plan and drag henrik along with
her for the task she had planned for his brother. at least THAT might keep him out
of the trees for one afternoon.
over the years she had proven time and time again that she wouldn’t ask twice for
something to be done, a trait shared with her husband. instead, she watched her
son, almost DARING him to maintain the defiance her darling babe never would
have attempted a year ago. henrik was her youngest; too young to begin causing
mayhem with his siblings. far too young to tempt her to raise her voice to get across
her point
—— at least one of her children should have been able to
remain hers f o r e v e r.
averting his eyes. the bravery, once felt, dissolved. feeling as it always was. he felt shame. the boy knew he probably shouldn't have’d gone up there and knew it was dangerous and it was going against his mother’s wishes. he knew that she was displeased. something they boy despised. the last thing he wanted as to make her disappointed in him.
Knowing much better than to obey his mother orders, he stared to make his way down. rather not test to what levels her rage could come to if he remained in the trees. but the boy couldn't keep of the sourer expression on his face, but as his feet hit the ground the bitterness turned into shame. he didn’t want to be a burden.
“sorry mother. it was foolish of me to climb up that tree. ”
it was moments like this he wished to be kol. to being brave enough to actually voice his desires. but that wasn't him. henrik knew that ALL TO WELL -------------------- it was a constant battle within him. the person he wanted the be, and the one should. both sides strong, the person he was had no chance. he wanted to be so much more, he wanted to be adventurous and fun like kol or strong like elijah or wise like fin or creative like Nik or brave like rebekah. -------- but one look from his mother would make him regret those thoughts. as it put himself in danger or it was un fit for a child. child, the word that make his stomach twist.
“do you want some help with that.? ”with a small forced smile the little boy guested towards the basket in his mother’s hands.
