Mabel is extremely obviously audhd to me. The Last Mabelcorn alone proved she has a special interest in unicorns. Also, as someone who was raised an autistic girl, i saw myself in her.

Same! I’m nonbinary, but afab and autistic, and Mabel has always been my favorite gf character.

I think she is really interesting as someone who performs social skills, without necessarily having an intuitive understanding of them. It reminds me of how I was as a kid; the way I socialized was heavily informed by tv; it was less that I was naturally interacting and more that I viewed my own life as a narrative. Mabel reflects that (to me); she wants to create narratives in her own life (wanting to create an “epic summer romance”, etc). Maybe more controversial, but some of her crushes to me come off as less genuine interest and more that she’s doing what she thinks she’s “supposed” to do. I’m aroace so that bias might be shining through, but when I was a kid I thought you were just supposed to choose who you had a crush on, because it was the expected thing. I know it’s more a joke, but the montage of all the boys she expresses an interest in in the first episode reminds me of this. She often frames new situations through her existing interests, such as when she remakes the oneeyeclops in the claymation story (“I turned it into something I liked!”), which is dubious canonicity wise, but this is talking about how her character is represented.

the part where you said that her crushes might be forced as something she's supposed to do is exactly why i headcanon her as either lesbian, pansexual or aroace. Mostly because that was something i did at that age. I was also socialized by tv and video games. Also, i am higher support needs than her (i am pretty sure im medium support needs.) and i presented as more obviously autistic. the eloping and shutting down she does sometimes (the sweater town thing) is something i learned to do when my situation felt unsafe. She also has stims which i love.
