i don’t think any male ob/gyn became an ob/gyn with good intentions. maybe in the past when there were no female doctors, i would think they’re probably just trying to help women, but right now? i’m convinced they’re all just perverts.
the male obgyns were the ones keeping women out of the medical profession and trying to stop women from seeing midwives because “doctors always know best” even when doctors weren’t washing their hands and forcing women to give birth in painful positions. It’s probably one of the clearest examples of womb envy; men’s quest to medicalise and claim control over women’s reproductive functions. Then they rewrite history to make it sound like these super educated, scientist men were saving women from quacks and superstitious “old wives” when in reality, the medical advancements that helped make birth safer happened long after men claimed gynaecology as the field of men.
i’m reading why does he do that and this last part has been ON FIRE, i am hollering in my house.

You see male med students who want to be OB/GYNs complain that patients won't let them sit in on appointments so they don't get adequate training for the job and they don't consider that maybe this means the job isn't for them and they should find a different specialty.
Like if patients don't want you there as a student why would they want you there as a doctor?
The procedure is sometimes the best and safest option for pregnant women at risk.
Sometimes a pregnancy half fails. The membranes rupture before viability and an infection sets up shop in the uterus. Medically, the pregnancy has to end; whether the fetus is still alive or not does not matter. If an infected uterus is left unevacuated, the bacteria will eventually spread to the blood stream and it will be fatal. This is fact.
At times the body offers a consolation and goes into labor. It doesn’t seem like it at the time but it is more than a small mercy. When the uterus does not start contracting the patient has to choose: drugs to induce labor or a surgical procedure called dilation and evacuation (D&E). It is like starring in a horror movie where you choose the weapon.
Labor is labor. It hurts and can take days. A premature uterus, especially an infected one, often does not cooperate. Days of both grieving and waiting to grieve break even the strongest. No one has assigned fault, in fact everyone has said the opposite, but the pathways of sadness and self-doubt and blame cut deeper and deeper with each taunting contraction. A brain fuddled by lack of sleep, medication side effects, days without fresh air, and the stench of sweat from the bed sheets cannot possibly reframe this experience. When women tell me they “can’t even get this right” I want to cry.
At the end of the labor there is a baby. Often bruised and macerated. Many find that visual very hard as technically those injuries were caused by their own body. As a doctor you can try to explain it away as predicted medical consequences, which they are, but your words are repelled by a force field of despair. Sometimes the baby survives the infection and the traumatic labor and delivery and then the patient has to decide if she is able to hold her baby until death comes or if she is not. These things shatter people.
The other medical option is a D&E, a surgical procedure to remove the pregnancy through the cervix. It requires more skill, medically speaking, than the labor. You only come by this skill if you have done a lot of second trimester abortions because that is exactly what it is, but harder because an infected uterus has the consistency of soft butter. Your instruments are like a hot knife. You are using a hot knife to remove sharp fragments from a bed of soft butter. Do it incorrectly and you damage the uterus, puncture the bowel, or cause catastrophic blood loss. The fact that your patient is already ill with infection makes every potential sequelae worse.

“D&E’s are now illegal in Texas (because of Senate Bill 8, passed last week) unless the pregnant person is very ill. How ill? I’m a gynecologist and I don’t know.”
Fun fact; the "urinary leash" still exists, even in "developed" countries.
For example in 2017 there was a big court case in The Netherlands concerning a fine for urinating in public. The woman in question went to court to fight the fine, claiming that is was unfair that there are more public toilets for men than for women, which is true btw. There were 35 public toilets for men and only two for women in Amsterdam at the time and in some city's only one (1) 24/7 toilet is available for women (x) (x).
The woman lost this court case, because the judge, a man, thought that women can also use urinal or that they have to pee in advance(x). Also according to the judge women hardy urinate in public, so there would be no need for facilities. (x)
Since this court case nothing has changed in the Netherlands to improve the urinary leash that's still being put upon women. If it's like this in The Netherlands, which deprives itself as being a "progressive" country, I cannot imagine what it must be like outside of The Netherlands.
I love going on subreddits about topics/communities I have absolutely nothing to do with, but r/medicalschool succesfully confirmed every bias I had about male doctors.
this tiktok had 175k likes :( we need to develop female class consciousness soon.
heartbreaking piece about the commonality of child marriage in the united states
Emboldened by success in Afghanistan, the Taliban is now ordering religious leaders to provide them with lists of girls over the age of 15 to enter into ‘marriages’ to Taliban fighters.
an account by an afghan woman
This is out of the blue! I am Afghan and I am currently living in Afghanistan. Today (15 Aug 2021) the Taliban entered the capital city of Afghanistan which is Kabul. The government is going to change to an Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan. They ruled in Afghanistan for 5 years, 20 years ago. I've heard stories about them since I'm 19 and luckily was not yet born. And let me tell you the stories were terrifying, but they were just horror stories to me and I never thought that I'd be living under their regime, but here we are.
Let me tell you something shocking: girls can only study up to 6th grade. The future of female students in universities hasn't been decided yet. According to what I've heard they go from house to house and ask for girls and women (12 to 45 year olds) for marriage.
As they are just pieces of crap, I don't really believe that they'd let us have mobiles or use the internet. I really hope this isn't my last post in here! But if it is I want to let the world know of what they've done and what they're doing.
Don't forget us!
I 100% believe that if the legal age of consent was 16,15,14, or even 13 or 12 there would be hoards of middle age men dating girls who just got their period. Just look at how men treat the existing age of consent which is 18 (in most places). Also look at marriage and sex before the age of consent or in 3rd world countries. There was and is no shortage of child brides. Or look at how men treat female celebrities like Billie Eillish the second they turn 18. Men aren't waiting for girls to turn 18 because they actually believe 18 year old girls are mature or fully developed, they wait because they just don't want to go to jail.
“You won’t allow me to go to school. I won’t become a doctor. Remember this: One day you will be sick.”

– Poem written by an 11 year old Afghan girl
This poem was recorded in a NYT magazine article about female underground poetry groups in Afghanistan. An amazing article about the ways in which women are using a traditional two line poetry form to express their resistance to male oppression, their feelings about love (considered blasphemous), and their doubts about religion.
One of the best articles I’ve read all year. Here’s the link

can’t believe thousands of you don’t believe women inherit trauma from our foremothers or face socioeconomic disadvantages……………..you all need to stop using “feminism” as a catch-all for social justice if the horror women experience for being women is an afterthought at best or literally non-existent in your activist priorities
So every other woman is completely fine with it
yep that's the point of being "non-binary". they think because they're not willing to put up with oppression, that they're not women. and this directly implies that "actual women" are okay with, or even worse, enjoy their own oppression.
Why try and change society for the betterment of all women when you can say ‘lol bye’ and change absolutely nothing?
