前回のハスガードとエルシドに続いて喧嘩シリーズみたいな感じでしょうか;
Athena Saori goes back in time and messes everything up.
By trying to save Seiya from his fate, Saori travels to the 18th century, to the previous Holy War and in doing so, she’s turned into an infant. Great. She hasn’t accomplished anything yet and just like in her time period, the Gold Saints of this time don’t think/trust she’s Athena and the Pope wants to kill her. (Insert eye roll).
Athena reincarnates every time a Holy War is about to occur. Athena and Hades clash in this war about every 200 years or so. She defeated him in the 20th century, where Bronze Saint Pegasus Seiya was injured and cursed by Hades’ sword. The Pegasus Saint is of importance to Athena’s reincarnations because he’s the one to help defeat the Lord of the Underworld and help the goddess attain victory. After Seiya is hurt, goes into a vegetative state (ope) and with Hades also gone, Saori thinks it’d be a great idea to go back in time to the previous Holy War to rid of Hades’ sword and possibly lift the curse placed on Seiya. She decides to ask her sister Artemis for help, and is taken 240 years back by Chronos. But because she wants to save Seiya, she knowingly or unknowingly, puts the whole world AND universe in jeopardy.
Not only that, but Saori’s presence is interfering with the awakening of the Athena of the 18th century, Sasha. Saori is messing up so bad, she “provokes the awakening of Ophiuccus Odysseus as the ‘13th Saint’ of the Zodiac.” Also, because of this, she is making Seiya’s existence null. She’s pretty much erasing him from history! At least, we hope, in Sanctuary as a Saint. Therefore, if this keeps going on, there won’t be Pegasus Saint in the 20th century.
I have no idea of what happened in here yet… just that when Saori arrived in the 18th century, she became an INFANT!!! WHAT???!!!!
After messing up this time period and saving the universe by miracle, the damage has been done. Saori should have never gone back in time herself. She put herself in danger (surprise, surprise), messed up with the time(line), and caused fatalities everywhere when there weren’t supposed to be any. Her actions have caused her to be stuck in this time period; she cannot go back. She stayed for too long and caused Sasha to fall in an eternal sleep. Pretty much sabotaged her and herself. Now, Sasha is no longer Athena (thanks a lot, Saori) and she is draining her life. The four Bronze Saints that went after Saori are not allowed to go back either (Or did they perished…? Yikes). Still trying to figure out something here. There’s a little bit of hope for them, though. They became Saints because of Mitsumasa Kido, who received Saori from Sagittarius Aiolos. (Say what now? ƪ(ツ)ʃ) They will be allowed to go back but they have to leave their cloths behind with Saori and when they return to their time, their lives will be completely different with no recollection of what had happened. If they’re lucky; otherwise, the moment they return, they’ll vanish into the air, That is if they want to go back… Still no idea of what happens here….
Saori has FINALLY realized how bad she did. She asks Chronos if there’s a way to fix what she has broken now. He says no. He tells her the only hope she has now is to let time “fix/heal” itself and for a miracle in the distant future. If that miracle actually gets to happen, they might be able to fix the timeline, it won’t get to be the same, but it will be “fixed.” The chances of some people not existing or remembering what happened are high. A lot of changes would have to be made in order to fix this whole mess. This miracle could also bring back Saori to her own time.
So they accept this fate, with the hope of a miracle. The Bronze Saints hand over their cloths to Saori, who gives them to the Pope (he survived??!), a dying Dohko, and Odysseus(?) Hey, who would have known. (Yeah…. Shion is gone… Well done, Saori) Still don’t know what to do/add here, just know someone was watching this whole mess and enjoyed it a lot….
Time passes by.
When the Holy War of the 20th century arrives, there’s indeed no Pegasus Saint, so Hades and his army win the war, killing the Athena and Pope of that era. Because of what Saori did in the 18th century, none of the Saints we saw in the century before the time travel exist now, such as the famous five Bronze Saints and the 12 Gold Saints we got to know first. At least, in Sanctuary. Everyone (except for a few non-saint-sanctuary-people) dies in this war, except for two saints: Centaur Fotia and Gold Saint Aries Avenir.
Ya, I know, I just had to get this out of my head….
(Long uhh here)
Athena is a villain / cult leader, part 2
As I said on the previous post, this started out as a shitpost, and I eventually realized some of that stuff was
genuinely
messed up. If you’ll take this post seriously, or pass it entirely as a joke, that’s up for you to decide.
If you want more context, please check the first part of this thing.
Anyways. I got 3 hours of sleep, some cool comments and messages, and now I’d like to add a few things to the list from my previous post. This one will be far shorter, don’t worry. I lied. Buckle up, lads.
Athena and the Sanctuary are a destructive cult: the list, part 2
In the beginning of the story, each kid is sent to a different country to train. Guess what? Many cults use this tactic to indoctrinate people more easily. Separate the recruits from each other, and keep them under close watch of the cult members instead. This way, they’ll only receive the “right” influences.
You might say: “hey dumbass, the Saints are like a military organization. Of course they have strict orders and punish deserters.” Here’s the thing, mate: military organizations can become cult-like, and many have done so through history, when they have an adored leader that can’t be questioned in any circumstances.
Seiya was absolutely unwilling to submit to Athena. The poor kid got shamed by the cult and was forced to perform tasks for the goddess until he eventually stopped trying to argue against it. He’s now Athena’s most devout follower. Out of everything in this list, which contains a few not-so-serious points, this is one of the topics that actually disturbs me. If Seiya ever decided to be a rebel again, I sincerely think he’d be completely right to do so.
Also, the fact that the cult separated Seiya from his sister, and then Saori used the lost girl as a bargaining chip to make him obey also disturbs me.
Shun despises his obligation to fight as a Saint, and genuinely wanted to give up a few times, yet he won’t ever leave the cult (either out of fear of a possible retaliation, or because he feels guilty for questioning his faith. Also, his brother is there.) Both possibilities are, guess what, classic symptoms of psychological manipulation by a cult. It’s like being trapped in a shitty marriage.

Athena is actually a villain in Saint Seiya; change my mind
I haven’t seen any bizarre theories / controversial opinions in this fandom for a long while now so I’d like to share this weird thing I just thought about. This started out as a shitpost, but as the list grew longer I started feeling genuinely concerned so uh…. I don’t know. Take this seriously, or as a joke, whatever suits you best.
Hear me out: Athena is a villain. Sure, she (supposedly) protects Earth from the other gods. But why would a villain let other villains take over her reign?
I’ll get straight to the point: she’s a fucked up cult leader. The whole Sanctuary / Saints thing is a massive destructive cult.
“Of course the Sanctuary is a cult, you dumbass, Athena is a goddess!”, you might say. Fair enough. I’ll argue about the legitimacy of her actions in another post, if anyone actually reads this whole thing and gets interested. (Nobody will.) Let’s forget about the “goddess” part for a moment, and think about it without any magical stuff involved.
How are Athena and the Sanctuary similar to a creepy cult? I’ll make a list… considering what I can remember. If any of this is wrong, or I missed anything, feel free to correct me. Disclaimer: the first two topics aren’t fucked up on their own, but I included them for context.
Saints obey a supreme leader (Athena) whose authority can’t be questioned
There’s a strict hierarchy to be followed. If I recall correctly, it goes like: Athena > Pope > Gold Saints > Silver Saints > Bronze Saints > whoever is left
Saints are isolated in a far away place (Sanctuary) along with all the other cult members
Desertion is punishable by death (what exactly counts as desertion? Are they trapped there since the first day of training?) Also: I’m not sure of how much this applies only to Saga’s unlawful takeover, and how much Athena herself will want your blood if you run away.
Regarding the above topic: in The Lost Canvas, Capricorn El Cid is willing to kill one of his own apprentices for desertion. Therefore it’s safe to assume that Athena isn’t really forgiving, compared to Saga, in that regard.
If you disobey the goddess, you’re dead meat.
Saints are recruited, mostly, as young children who don’t yet have the critical thinking skills to realize what they’re actually getting into

I didn’t know about that. This is a nice and bizarre theory ! 😅
I’ve always watched Saint Seiya without questioning the whole Sanctuary system. This theory blew my mind honestly, I think I will never watch Saint Seiya the same again. May be I will try to re watch the anime with this theory in mind.
Please make a post about the story of the RMS Carpathia, because it's something that's almost beyond belief and more people should know about it.
Carpathia received Titanic’s distress signal at 12:20am, April 15th, 1912. She was 58 miles away, a distance that absolutely could not be covered in less than four hours.
(Californian’s exact position at the time is…controversial. She was close enough to have helped. By all accounts she was close enough to see Titanic’s distress rockets. It’s uncertain to this day why her crew did not respond, or how many might not have been lost if she had been there. This is not the place for what-ifs. This is about what was done.)
Carpathia’s Captain Rostron had, yes, rolled out of bed instantly when woken by his radio operator, ordered his ship to Titanic’s aid and confirmed the signal before he was fully dressed. The man had never in his life responded to an emergency call. His goal tonight was to make sure nobody who heard that fact would ever believe it.
All of Carpathia’s lifeboats were swung out ready for deployment. Oil was set up to be poured off the side of the ship in case the sea turned choppy; oil would coat and calm the water near Carpathia if that happened, making it safer for lifeboats to draw up alongside her. He ordered lights to be rigged along the side of the ship so survivors could see it better, and had nets and ladders rigged along her sides ready to be dropped when they arrived, in order to let as many survivors as possible climb aboard at once.
I don’t know if his making provisions for there still being survivors in the water was optimism or not. I think he knew they were never going to get there in time for that. I think he did it anyway because, god, you have to hope.
Carpathia had three dining rooms, which were immediately converted into triage and first aid stations. Each had a doctor assigned to it. Hot soup, coffee, and tea were prepared in bulk in each dining room, and blankets and warm clothes were collected to be ready to hand out. By this time, many of the passengers were awake–prepping a ship for disaster relief isn’t quiet–and all of them stepped up to help, many donating their own clothes and blankets.
And then he did something I tend to refer to as diverting all power from life support.
Here’s the thing about steamships: They run on steam. Shocking, I know; but that steam powers everything on the ship, and right now, Carpathia needed power. So Rostron turned off hot water and central heating, which bled valuable steam power, to everywhere but the dining rooms–which, of course, were being used to make hot drinks and receive survivors. He woke up all the engineers, all the stokers and firemen, diverted all that steam back into the engines, and asked his ship to go as fast as she possibly could. And when she’d done that, he asked her to go faster.
I need you to understand that you simply can’t push a ship very far past its top speed. Pushing that much sheer tonnage through the water becomes harder with each extra knot past the speed it was designed for. Pushing a ship past its rated speed is not only reckless–it’s difficult to maneuver–but it puts an incredible amount of strain on the engines. Ships are not designed to exceed their top speed by even one knot. They can’t do it. It can’t be done.
Carpathia’s absolute do-or-die, the-engines-can’t-take-this-forever top speed was fourteen knots. Dodging icebergs, in the dark and the cold, surrounded by mist, she sustained a speed of almost seventeen and a half.
No one would have asked this of them. It wasn’t expected. They were almost sixty miles away, with icebergs in their path. They had a respondibility to respond; they did not have a responsibility to do the impossible and do it well. No one would have faulted them for taking more time to confirm the severity of the issue. No one would have blamed them for a slow and cautious approach. No one but themselves.
They damn near broke the laws of physics, galloping north headlong into the dark in the desperate hope that if they could shave an hour, half an hour, five minutes off their arrival time, maybe for one more person those five minutes would make the difference. I say: three people had died by the time they were lifted from the lifeboats. For all we know, in another hour it might have been more. I say they made all the difference in the world.
This ship and her crew received a message from a location they could not hope to reach in under four hours. Just barely over three hours later, they arrived at Titanic’s last known coordinates. Half an hour after that, at 4am, they would finally find the first of the lifeboats. it would take until 8:30 in the morning for the last survivor to be brought onboard. Passengers from Carpathia universally gave up their berths, staterooms, and clothing to the survivors, assisting the crew at every turn and sitting with the sobbing rescuees to offer whatever comfort they could.
In total, 705 people of Titanic’s original 2208 were brought onto Carpathia alive. No other ship would find survivors.
At 12:20am April 15th, 1912, there was a miracle on the North Atlantic. And it happened because a group of humans, some of them strangers, many of them only passengers on a small and unimpressive steam liner, looked at each other and decided: I cannot live with myself if I do anything less.
I think the least we can do is remember them for it.
wow okay i’m crying now
“And even as he watched the rescue unfolding that morning, he would have understood that for the living, everything which could have been done had been done: not a single survivor was lost or injured being brought aboard the Carpathia. For those who had gone down with the Titanic, save for reverencing their memory at the service later that day, there was nothing more that he or anyone could do. Rostron’s duty now was as he always saw it: to the living.”
I looked up a bit about this because the post is so movingly written that when I read it aloud to my husband and mother they both wept like babies, and something else really struck me about this story.
So Carpathia was not a top-end luxury liner. Her reputation was for being Jolly Comfortable - she was very broad in her proportions, and not super-duper fast, and the result was that she didn’t rock so much on the waves and you couldn’t particularly hear/feel the engines. She was solid and dependable, and lots of people liked using her, but she therefore occupied a lesser niche than Titanic or Olympian or whatever - and crucially, as a result of that, she only had one radio operator on board. This means she only had radio ops for a certain window in the day, unlike Titanic, which had 24 hour radio ops.
So on that night, when Titanic went down, Carpathia’s wireless operator - one Harold Cottam - clocked off his shift at midnight, and went to bed. While he was getting ready for bed, though, he left the transmitter on for the hell of it, and therefore picked up a transmission from Cape Race in Newfoundland, the closest transmitting tower sending messages to the ships. They told him that they had a backlog of private traffic for Titanic that wasn’t getting through. So, even though his shift was over, and it was now 11 minutes past bloody midnight, and he just wanted to go to bed, Harold Cottam decided that nonetheless, he’d be helpful, and let the Titanic know they had messages waiting.
And that’s how he received the Titanic’s distress signal. In spite of no longer being on shift to receive it, and therefore in order to send Carpathia galloping to Titanic’s rescue, and thus saving 705 people.
All because Harold Cottam decided one night to be kind.
I dunno. That’s just really stuck with me.
Cottam also ended up staying awake for something like 48 hours straight trying to send survivors messages and a list of survivors home, but due to Carpathia’s limited radio frequency range and with no other ships to act as a relay, this was rather patchy. However, he tried his damn best to make sure the survivor’s messages got home, and was also bombarded with incoming messages of bribes to spill the details of the disaster to the press.
Rostrum had ordered that no messages to the press be sent out of respect to the survivors, for they would have their privacy destroyed as soon as they reached New York. Cottam respected this order, even under extreme duress of fatigue, stress, and the knowledge that in some cases the bribes were almost three times his annual salary.
He eventually went to bed but not before working with one of the rescued Titanic’s radio operators, Harold Bride, to transmit as many messages as possible. Bride was injured (his feet had been crushed in a lifeboat) and had just passed the body of the second of Titanic’s radio operators aboard (Jack Phillips), so neither of them were really in the best shape to keep working, but they did.
In the face of extreme adversity, both men refused to do anything but their duty (and exceeding their duty) not just because Rostrum had ordered it, but because it was the right thing to do. They could have profited considerably from the disaster and they refused for the dignity of the survivors.
This is hopepunk. This is what we can be, what we are, when instinct takes over. This is what we are when we choose to care about each other. We’re not profit machines or units of production or lone fierce wolves in a bitter wilderness. We are people, and we care about people.
This is human nature. Don’t give up on it.
Hopepunk is best punk.
this always leaves me sobbing. fuck.
I wrote a post a couple of years ago, wondering why there hadn’t been a documentary or docu-drama about the ‘Carpathia’ rescue run.
There are probably sound reasons why not, one of which is probably that getting yet another ‘Titanic’ project greenlit is far easier - name recognition, pre-sold property, multiple conspiracy theories to play with (all discredited, but when did that stop the “History” Channel?)
Here are a couple of stories about ‘Carpathia’:
As @mylordshesacactus has already said, her boilers and engines were rated for no more than 14 knots and, when she managed 17.5 for the only time in her life it’s said (I hate the phrase but I have to use it) that the Chief Engineer hung his hat over the main pressure gauge so no-one - including himself - could see how far its needle was into the red.
Captain Rostron, a religious man, was seen on several occasions standing privately on the exposed bridge wing with his own hat raised and his mouth moving in silent prayer, and when daylight revealed the extent of the ice-field his ship had passed without harm, he only said “There must have been another Hand on the wheel than mine…”
There’s another problem-of-sorts about a screenplay set aboard ‘Carpathia’ - an astonishing lack of that easy dramatic tool, conflict. Captain Rostron decided he was going to the ‘Titanic’s assistance, and that was that. AFAIK not a single passenger or crewman - not one - questioned the wisdom of his decision either then or afterwards, even when…
…‘Carpathia’ headed at more than full speed, in the dark, through dangerous waters where an iceberg had apparently just sunk an “unsinkable” ship.
It’s easier to write - and sell - a story about pride, arrogance, stupidity, rich against poor and lives lost through hubris, than it is to write one about people who rallied round and did the right thing at the right time, not for reward but because it was the right thing to do.
Here’s Rostron and his officers…
…the ‘Carpathia’ stewards and cabin crew….
…some of her passengers…
…and some of the people they helped.
I don’t remember who wrote it or whatwhat, BUT!!! I clearly remember seeing somewhere on tumblr something about a theory of Athena’s Sanctuary, from Saint Seiya, being something of a cult thing. I read it all!! And now I’m trying to find it again, but it’s been soooooo long, and I would love to read it again. I just hope I can find it soon…

Even though it’s not what most of us would have liked/wished/wanted, I am happy to see you arrive. ❤️🌹 I guess it happened for a reason, but we still wish they had given you more.
Welcome to Saint Seiya Awakening, Albafica:3 ♓️❤️🌹🥳
OmgomgomgomgomgomgongomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgOHEMGEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ohmygod I shiryusly could not hold my tears back from such happiness. I mean seriously look at him!!!!!! Look how my man looks in the game!! ♓️😍😍😍😍😍🥰🥰🥰😭✨✨✨✨✨❤️❤️❤️🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹❤️❤️
I really can’t wait to have him in global. Also, TENCENT!!!! This character has SO MUCH potential, and I’m not just saying it because he’s my man. No, no, no. It’s because he does!!!! He really does have so many things that could make him a top character. Roses that can attack, protect, poison that can fall on enemies, a red mist marking opponents…. His signature attack, Crimson Thorn…. Come back after the first defeat…… So much potential!!!! Also this, TENCENT…. Bring the AR Camera back to the Codex in global!!!!!!!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Ever since I started playing this game, I’ve enjoyed the ARCamera that came in the Codex. I fell in love with it the moment I discovered it. And I also always knew we would get the characters of The Lost Canvas in Saint Seiya Awakening some day. My favorite character form that story is Pisces Albafica (if it hasn’t been very obvious yet), and I was SOOOO looking forward to use the ARCamera with him. Unfortunately, the camera was removed from the Codex for the global version :(
I’ve seen the camera is still available for the Chinese version of the game, but for us in global is not anymore. WHY?! I really want this back. It’s one of the best things in the game. I miss it a lot, and it’s really fun to use. I really hope they bring it back….
The only Cosmo to fully bloom….
What if Albafica’s hair was a different color??? Omg, he’s perfect:3
