SUPER EASY PSD TUTORIAL

THIS WILL TEACH YOU HOW TO MAKE A PSD FOR YOUR RP ICONS OR GRAPHICS.  I will personally just be showing you how to do it for an image that isn’t cropped or bordered.  you will need photoshop for this, but you don’t have to be a pro!  ( you can prob. find a download link online but be careful! )  the tutorial is below the cut!  Its super flexible and easy and is a great way to spice up your aesthetic and visual mood for your writing threads or blog posts!

layer masks play a big part in my colorings for both gifs and icons/other still edits, and i briefly touch base on them in my coloring tutorials. i figured i’d make an entire post about layer masks so i can link to this in my other tutorials instead of trying to re-explain it every time.

the big question is: what is a layer mask? well, it’s this white rectangle that’s connected to every adjustment layer you add:

and what do they do? they allow you to have adjustments appear on specific parts of the gif/screenshot/etc instead of it affecting it as a whole.

to really show you how much i use them and how helpful they can be, without using a single layer mask, this gif

So I finally decided to make a tutorial how to go from this: (I know this tutorial is pretty long and I apologize for that, I just wanted to make a tutorial everyone can understand because when I was a beginner I always wished for more detailed tutorials on this topic.)

Hi, I love your content. I’m trying to start making gifs, but I’m struggling with them being more pixelated than I’d like. How do you get them o be so crisp? They’re kind of grainy so they look sharp like the noise was increased?

hey, and thank you! i always use these sharpening settings + a gaussian blur set to 30% opacity:

as for the grain, i only use those when i’m giffing stuff like horror films or something (for example, x and x) and i want the gifs to look grainy purely for The Aesthetic. for that i set my gifs to “diffusion” + 10-15% lossy when i’m exporting the gif like so (circled in red):

but normally i save my gifs as “pattern” instead of “diffusion” because i personally don’t like grain or noise! but of course you can choose to save your gifs however you prefer

Hey there! I though it would be helpful to post about how I use the app Notion to plan my novels (WIPs). I use it on my computer and phone. It has really helped the organisation of my writing!
