@lydia--argent
Hey everyone!
I realize I haven’t been terribly active lately, but I’m still going to move everything here over to Dreamwidth! This post has a nice rundown of its features, and rather than moving everything to eight billion other websites, I’ll just camp out there for a while and see what happens. I’m lydiaargent over there. I’m not deleting this blog, never fear!
Most of my stuff is also posted at LydiaArgent on AO3 as well! This is a good reminder to archive any of your creative works there :). I definitely haven’t done that in a comprehensive way, and this is a good opportunity.
oh my god my icon is still Homestuck. It really has been a long time since i’ve used this blog.
CRITICAL ROLE FEMSLASH WEEK will be held Wednesday Jan 16, 2019 to Tuesday Jan 22, 2019!
After tallying the votes and carefully considering the mod’s own schedule, the dates and prompts have been chosen. So, we’re a go on this project! Any content is acceptable other than that which is obviously, uncritically immoral (i.e. whitewashing).
For each day, there are two prompts: a content prompt, to guide the general direction of the piece; and a relationship prompt, to guide a variety of character combinations for each day. You are free to follow or not follow either of these at your own discretion! Mix and match, pull only what you like, commit to one but not the other; they are a guide, not guidelines.
More information on specific rules and transcript for those who can’t read the images. If you have any questions or concerns, the askbox is always open! If you plan to participate, please reblog this post to spread the word!

and another prompt because I can: Trade, for any combination of ladies in the hockey au *smiles innocently*
(the hockey au is just 1 fic but it shall be 2, with this addition!) relevant from last time: the tags about their positions, specifically that carolina’s their captain who plays offensive defense, and niner’s a winger who does fancy-ass tricks. sorry-not-sorry about the fuckload of hockey terms here, ahahaha. background knowledge that may help: this is a toe-drag, this is a sexy toe-drag, so’s this, and it’s part of the captain’s job to get the refs to call penalties when they see ‘em. also, hockey teams have four 3-player “lines” of forwards consisting of 2 wingers and 1 centre; if someone is in the first/second line (“top 6”), they’re generally great goal-scorers, and if someone’s in the bottom 6, they’re generally less great (but may be good at punching people, if this is the NHL). OK GO.
—
Carolina’s hammering her stick on the ice, hollering at the top of her lungs, “Here, here, here!!”
Niner ignores her to do a nifty toe-drag that normally would tie a familiar knot of jealousy and lust somewhere in Carolina’s stomach, but today, Carolina doesn’t feel that normal, because today, Niner’s trying to toe-drag her way around two of the biggest fucking defensemen Carolina’s ever played against.
Niner gets the puck by the first one, and nearly gets around the second, but the poke-check catches her skates and she does a heart-stopping somersault, landing awkwardly on her shoulder and skidding into the goalpost.
“Fucking—”
The whistle sounds, and Carolina’s already streaking towards Niner, can hear Souther to her left starting shit with the Brampton player who’d taken her out, but she’s busy, busy shouting for the call, because, “That was a trip, if she thought she was getting the puck I’ll eat my fucking socks, ref,” busy watching Niner clamber to her feet and shake herself off like a dog getting out of water.

An Open Gate, A Flawless Sky
Red vs. Blue. Carolina/Kimball and Ohio/Sherry. 3900 words. Rated T. A few years in the future, Carolina meets a friendlier face from her past.
A lot of this is @redteamshark‘s fault. ;) I started this months ago after a conversation we had about what it would be like if Carolina and Ohio met someday, and ended up putting it aside because something was still missing. As it turns out, season 15 gave me some relevant new material to work with, and I decided I’d finish this up for the end of the year. The setting is partially inspired by this post.
Many thanks to @tuckerfuckingdidit for the beta read. <3 All remaining mistakes are mine.
The planet is really bright in the sky, mottled white and blue-green and taking up a lot of the view, though you can still see the dark around it, and if you look far enough from its bright rim, some stars. Carolina hasn’t felt so light in years, literally—the moon Kage, though larger than Luna, is still a lot smaller than Chorus, its gravity gentler. The air’s crisp and cool on her skin.
Strings of colored lights line every building, inside and out, and every street, and the city square. To an Earther, it feels festive, even though it isn’t—just a way of life on a tidally-locked moon whose inner hemisphere gets direct sunlight at sporadic intervals not corresponding to 24-hour days and nights. Tonight, Kage sits directly between Terasa and her blue giant sun. While Kage eclipses a tiny circle of shadow over Terasa’s equator, the light the gas giant reflects bathes the dark side of the moon in cool blue light.
It’s a long time since Carolina has seen Vanessa laugh this much. Her hand doesn’t leave Carolina’s, and she keeps leaning in close, the spiked-up blue tips of her hair tickling Carolina’s forehead. She’s had a drink or two. Carolina hasn’t picked up the name for the local spirit but it’s good stuff, strong with a bright floral burn.

Femslash History and Me
This post is part of Femslash Revolution’s I Am Femslash series, sharing voices of F/F creators from all walks of life. The views represented within are those of the author only.
I’d already been in femslash fandom for years before I thought about learning more about femslash history.
I started out in fandom with a het ship - Star Trek: Voyager’s Janeway and Chakotay - and I only really discovered femslash because of Minerva McGonagall. I was obsessed with her, and I was determined to find fic that featured her prominently. So much of what I discovered was femslash, and not only that, it was good femslash. The stories being told were full of rich, complex relationships between women, and incredibly encouraging to me, in my early twenties and not yet out as queer even to myself.
After that I found Doctor Who femslash - a magical playground of possibilities where half the fun was getting two women to actually meet - and then I looped back around to my roots and relaunched into Star Trek fandom, this time fully aware of the scope for connections between women in its detailed and sprawling universe.
So I’d been in femslash fandom, mostly in those three fandoms but dabbling all over the place in corners both large and small, for maybe a decade when a friend said: “So, I know that slash fandom began with Kirk/Spock, but how did femslash fandom get started?”
And I had to admit that I was stumped.
I confessed to my friend that I didn’t have a clue, that I knew almost nothing about the history of femslash beyond a handful of things about Xena fandom and my own hazy memories. I realised that I’ absorbed a lot of dudeslash knowledge by fannish osmosis, but that hadn’t happened in the same way with femslash. On the way home that afternoon I decided that I was going to find out everything I could.
Information was out there, but it was hard to find, scattered across the internet, not gathered in any one place. I opened about a million tabs, following dead links and googling names and titles. I started putting some of what I’d found into the Femslash article on Fanlore. I asked around, got fannish acquaintances to share their own memories. My wife effortlessly reeled off a list of about twenty popular femslash pairings from the late 1990s and early 2000s. A friend of a friend on Twitter shared a huge archive of old femslash vids. There was so much to learn and discover.
Since then I’ve been doing research on this topic whenever I get a chance, and here are a few things I’ve found out:
The first extant femslash fic that we can date for definite, which has recognisable characters and which is undeniably classable as femslash, is a Star Trek fic called Kismet, published in 1977. It’s a Chapel/Uhura story that explores their feelings about carrying on a hidden relationship.
The first modern-day fandom to be dominated by a femslash pairing was Cagney and Lacey, a (wonderful!) show about two women cops that ran from 1981-1988. The show had a large, enthusiastic and creative following among women, particularly queer women, many of whom shipped Cagney and Lacey.
Plenty of fandoms had femslash contingents before the femslash explosion that was the Xena fandom - not just Star Trek but Blake’s 7, The X-Files, Forever Knight and Babylon 5.
The Xena fandom and its concept that Xena and Gabrielle would remain soulmates through multiple reincarnations played a huge role in popularising the setting-change AUs that are ubiquitous in fandom today.
Femslash vidding probably got started sometime in the late 1990s - the arrival of digital vidding coincided with the ascent of a few key femslash pairings to create an explosion of vidding creativity in femslash circles.
Femslash, as a community and as a body of fannish literature and art, is growing, thriving, and more popular and varied now than it’s ever been.
Maybe all of this was common knowledge and I just managed to miss out, but I don’t think so. I was part of a panel on the history of femslash at a convention last summer and the room was full, the mood excited. People asked a lot of questions. I know there are some folks who knew a lot of this already, but there are also people like me who are eager to learn.
I’m still trying to figure out ways to find more information about the early days of femslash - details are especially sparse when you get back to the 1970s and 1980s. Someday I’d like to have the time and the resources to really delve into investigating it, but for now I’m trying to increase my knowledge in smaller ways. I find what zines I can, I read the work of fannish historians, and I’ve just started a collaborative femslash timeline in Google Docs that anyone can contribute to. Whatever your place in the femslash community, you’re welcome to come and share your memories of fandoms and pairings both big and small!
About the Author:
These days I write mostly Star Trek femslash and femgen, which can be found on my AO3 here. My Femslash Timeline Google Doc is here.
I somehow found the time to write this thing! Friends, come put stuff in my femslash timeline! Especially as I’ve barely had time to put anything in myself yet so it’s super empty!
@ fandom pals
There was a post going around within the last year about the LJ shutdown and fandom migrations in general, and I have a good friend who is an archivist and is interested in the whole thing!
If any of you have those posts bookmarked or tagged, I’d be super grateful if you’d let me know :)

RvB Rec Day: NSFW edition!
@rvbficwars
We’re having a Smut Week later this month, so I figured it’d be a good time to rec some of my all-time favorite nsfw fics in this fandom! This is by no means an exhaustive list, and it was decidedly difficult to narrow down, but gotta save something for next time! Hope you’ll check these out, and enjoy them. :)
Move by @punishandenslavesuckers. Carolina/Maine. This is such an old favorite of mine, and not just because it was one of the earliest Mainelina fics–I’ve returned to read this one over and over for the excellent characterization as well as the very very hot locker room sex.
Tyger! Tyger! by @zalia. Carolina/Maine. Femdom, cunnilingus, praise kink, there is absolutely nothing not to love about this fic. You all know I love a D/s dynamic for Mainelina and this fic delivers a whole handful of my favorite things in Zalia’s lovely prose.
Untitled by @punishandenslavesuckers. Carolina/Felix. Listen. This fic is the long and the short of both why and how I love this ship. It’s from before the Felix reveal, and I still love the dynamic between and have read it many times.
The War is Over and We Are Beginning by @thought-. Carolina/Kimball/Tucker. Thought’s Chorus fics are always a pleasure, blending fantastic worldbuilding detail with thoughtful character insights and this one is a prime example. I love the build-up and the character dynamics therein every bit as much as the sex scene itself, and I especially love Thought’s unique insights into Carolina’s approaches to sex.
Without Wings, But Burning Anyway by @thought-. Carolina/Niner where Carolina has an open relationship with York. Smokin’ hot sex, snappy dialogue with bang-on character voices and again, a fantastic Carolina. Added bonus: this gorgeous illustration by @playerprophet.
Silver Lining, Lone Ranger Riding by @lydia–argent. Carolina/Niner. When the Pelican’s rockin’, don’t come knockin’! I love Niner on Chorus and I absolutely love how lydiaargent writes that NinerLina dynamic and this is hot hot hot as hell thank you and good night.
Formal Dress by @nogoawayok. South/Connie in Superstar AU, one of my very favorite AUs. A press conference, political intrigue, nogo’s delightful South/Connie dynamic and some good old fashion cunnilingus in a public bathroom.
Happy reading, pals!
Previous Rec Days
1) to read 2) SO FLATTERED 3) literally only managed to write this due to @thought- 's encouragement!
