The United States and Israel are attempting a new tactic. From what I understand, the US is presenting an arrangement where Gaza would be ruled by a leader that is not elected by the Palestinian people but instead decided by the US itself, and will enforce this governance with police/security provided by "regional and international forces."
Earlier this year, the US and Israel collaborated to create death trap GHF sites. These were promoted as aid to relieve famine, even though the US and Israel were the ones creating the famine. These GHF sites were staffed by private mercenaries and surrounded by Israeli military, resulting in daily massacres of starving Palestinians.
I am not the most informed person on this topic, but I anticipate this "20-point plan" is similar--continuing the genocide while offering some sort of international propaganda that things are meaningfully different.
Netanyahu says if this plan (Palestinians giving up Palestine and ceasing any defense of their land and right to govern themselves) is not followed “Israel will finish the job by itself”.
This is the same situation as the entire genocide. Israel and the United States want full control over Palestine, and they are presenting an option where Palestinians surrender their land and autonomy as the only alternative to continuing genocide.
There is no real difference except, now that the UN is finally declaring Israel's actions as genocide, this plan presents a way for the global north to pretend genocide is being addressed and to return to having no obligation to cease all ties with Israel.
Back in February of this year, while addressing a news conference at the White House with Netanyahu, Trump said that the US would “take over” and “own” Gaza.
It seems that is still their plan.
