In the English language, ‘female’ exists as a sex descriptor. It applies to any species. ‘Woman’ is a term applied to humans of the female sex, specifically adults, with female children called girls. When used by misogynists, ‘female’ is used to dehumanize women, to indicate we are less than human. When feminists use it, it’s to highlight the parts of our reality that exist precisely because we are female.
