clark kent x batman headcanon 🫶
they met when batman gets injured trying to infiltrate lexcorp. he ends up falling three stories and clark (who was there as a reporter for once, for an article on luthor's corruption) ends up catching him right after he passes out from blood loss
clark flies batman to his apartment because he has no idea what else to do with him... and he's actively bleeding out from atleast two bullet wounds. clark isnt the best at first aid but he does his best ;;
while he waits for batman to wake up, clark ends up falling asleep sitting beside the bed, one hand on batman's chest to make sure he's still breathing.
when he wakes up next, batman is gone, but there's a little bat-shaped post-it note saying thank you on the bedside table, beside clark's glasses (and oh gosh clark panics thinking batman knows who he is now... but he's also just happy batman survived, so he isnt Too upset)
batman does NOT know clark kent is superman, but clark has been on his radar for months now due to his journalism. half because he writes about superman, half because bruce can really appreciate his journalistic integrity. but after waking up in his one bedroom apartment (yes, he left a hidden camera just in case clark had unmasked him and was waiting to Do something with that info), he has a piqued interest in him as a person as well...
on slow patrol nights, batman finds himself straying towards the metropolis border... 'just to check in'. on VERY slow nights, when its nearly morning, he'll climb clark's fire escape and peek in when he knows clark is out (and where does he go so early in the mornings? sometimes he's there passed out in his full sized bed, which is still a little too tiny for him, but other times the apartment is so barren its like he hasnt been home in days...)
one night, clark catches him watching. batman is on a roof opposite to clark's apartment, in the shadows, but he watches clark twirl on his heel after he just sang his heart out to a crackly radio song, only for his eyes to catch on batman's hiding spot.
and, oh, the way he brightens, like he's so excited to see him... cheeks flushed from his singing, dimpled on both sides with the force of his sunny smile. eyes creased with smile lines as he lifts his hand to excitedly wave.
batman rescinds into the darkness within thirty seconds, but his heart does a funny thump regardless and it doesnt stop until he's back in gotham.
and it proceeds like that for the next few months.
the gunshot wounds were shoddily patched, so it left bumpy and jagged scars on his skin. bruce sometimes rubs his fingertips across the puckered flesh, not because it hurts but because he has the strangest memory of warm, gentle hands pressing gauze into the wound. alfred wouldve never been so panicked Or sloppy in applying first aid, so the only person it could be in that memory is...
on that train of thought, bruce will yank his hand away and get back to work.
it all comes to a head one day when he finds clark IN gotham. he's on a street where the lights dont work, havent worked for about twenty years now despite it being on the city's to do list for nineteen of thise years. batman watches as two men stalk him from the shadows, perhaps parallel to how batman himself does the same... clark keeps looking over his shoulder nervously, as if he senses them on the wind.
like an idiot, he turns down an even darker street, and a dead end one at that.
as soon as the muggers turn too, batman is already descending from the roof in a flash of black and leather, and knocks them both out in two smooth hits. clark makes a choked sound, startled, but batman is already hefting his grappling gun to escape.
clark's hand on his outstretched arm stops him. his relieved smile and deep voice is what makes batman slowly drop his stance. clark thanks him earnestly, patting around his pockets to pay batman for his trouble, of all things.
it nearly makes batman laugh. nearly.
he escorts clark home (free of charge), to his hotel in gotham this time, instead of his tiny apartment. he cant lead clark all the way up to his room, but clark seems happy enough being dropped off across the street.
"i'm glad you healed alright," clark admits, eyes glancing shyly from batman's cowl, to the neon sign of the hotel just a few dozen feet away. "i got nervous when i woke up and you were gone. but i guess nothing keeps batman down for long, hm?"
clark laughs then, light and soft. his hand hovers over batman's side, the side where he was injured.
batman takes a moment to drink him in. then he simply nods, tucking his cape around him as if to hide the injury even though its already out of sight beneath his suit.
"thank you, clark," he says quietly, just as clark takes on step off the sidewalk to head inside.
when clark turns to look at him, batman is already gone.
ANYWAY this turned more into a ficlet than anything, but i loveee this dynamic so bad my goddd. i can totally see clark inviting batman back into his apartment one day, and to Both their surprise, batman actually comes up. sure, he scales the building instead of taking the elevator but...
(〃´▽`) i like to think clark feeds batman a lot when he visits. he doesn't know how else to repay him, but food is always best enjoyed with company anyway... batman starts to look forward to thise moments, even if they arent necessarily planned.
i think the relationship would progress when batman brings little gifts. at first theyre snacks to eat After their shared dinner, little cookies alfred made or chocolates bruce wayne had picked up... then it progresses to a literal deadbolt for clark's door bc there's only ONE lock on the thing and batman cant stand the thought of someone breaking in without him to protect clark (who is MUCH to gentle to defend himself properly, in bruce's opinion)
and then he brings him a tie. a silly little tie with dog bones and paw prints on it, because clark complained about his cousin's dog once. its sweet. its cute. its so out of character that clark blinks at it for the longest time, until batman slowly starts to tuck it back into his pocket to throw away.
clark grabs his receding hand and proceeds to kiss him silly 🫶
WAAA I JUST THINK IT COULD BE SOOOO CUTE RIGHT? RIGHT
