“we autistics don’t need intervention—”
psychotherapy is intervention. speech therapy is intervention. occupational therapy & physical therapy are intervention. play therapy is intervention.
AAC is intervention. teaching communication is intervention. redirecting harmful stimming is intervention. teaching social skills is intervention. a visual schedule is intervention. having an IEP is intervention. classroom modifications are intervention. help with or help learn bADLs and iADLs are intervention.
giving yourself a sticker every time you finish a task? that is based on behavioralism and that is intervention. (behavioral therapy isn’t always ABA, behavioral therapy isn’t always abusive).
medicine for associated disorders is intervention.
early intervention is intervention, it is free (in the US i think), focus on skills, and often involves the child with developmental delay or diagnosis and their family, and many have said it have made such a big impact on child’s/their development. early intervention is not (always) ABA.
so much more are intervention.
if you don’t need any of that, great! but not every autistic in same position as you. many autistics need intervention, some autistics especially higher support needs may need all of them i mentioned. don’t erase us with your narrow understanding of autism and narrow understanding of intervention.
