You're a jerk and so am I — but you're the only one for me || ASHTON
There’s a kind of soft resignation in his voice that Chali isn’t quite adapt to yet, and in that moment that she rescinds her hand from the knocking motion, her eyes struggle to scan the implication of emotion in his face. Whilst his attire had seemed rather casual for someone of his status – and from what she knew and gathered from their little argument earlier, there was just something that didn’t sit right in the way he acted alone, outside and around her. It felt tentative; and his hands held secrets she (for some reason) wished to pry open.
"No there isn’t—" her voice trails off in an almost-thoughtful manner, but it was more so a distraction than an answer. Again, his voice evens out slow and steady as if unwilling to raise any flags that would incite question, I’m going to be leaving right now. I should be back in a few hours— The celebrity glances briefly at the time on her communicator device before her attention rests on the Actor’s hands once again.
Could you move?
"Where are you going – dressed like that, I mean.”
She understands that it’s not her place to tread, but Chali empathizes with the fact that each of them both had their secrets they would prefer to hide from pesky tabloids and the such. Still, it was a rather weak disguise —if any at all— and she feels somehow compelled to right the wrong she had committed against him earlier.
"Can you at least let me get you a better mask? You step out like that to wherever you’re going and the paparazzo are gonna swoop in on you like a vulture—”
Brown eyes dart back and forth but never land on the celebrity. it was clear the search for some sort of out. Something that could convince Chali that his intentions were something sane. Something that gives him reason to be dressed so oddly and give him a pass to be out all night. No such excuse would float to the top and reveal itself as an easy getaway so he was forced to do something that he was no good at, improvise.
"My.... manager, asked me for some help. He needs me to convince another one of his clients to take some part. I don't know why he asked me, apparently whatever genre it is this guy considers below him so he refuses or something and it's something I do all the time. He said he'd have me take the part but it was made for his other client almost perfectly. It's stupid as hell, and I don't know why I'm doing it."
He spewed lies, so much so that if his unconvincing performance wasn't enough to bring him down his out-of-character release of details that were not part of the original question would. He was surprised that he managed to think so quickly on his feet with words. Though he did so often in a more literal sense, speech without a script was not as easy. He almost felt satisfied with himself. '– dressed like that, I mean,' The only real hole in his excuse, no explanation was offered and his only hope that what he provided would suffice.
"I don't need a mask, He's going to have me picked up. I'm just supposed to be driven to this kid's house or a coffee shop or someplace. It shouldn't be some tabloid spectacle. It's not like I'm going to meet you or anything," a chuckle slips past his throat as if to punctuate his answer. He may not be good at improvisation, but his acting skills could help him lie.
