New AU/Fic Idea: Abomination of the Heavens (Varinium AU)
Explanation/story under cut!
Okay, Varian is pretty much a mad scientist already. And aside from his impressive engineering and alchemy skills, he was able to mutate Ruddiger into a monster and engineer a truth serum from a mood potion which implies he also has a grasp on biology (at least.)
My idea is this: Varian is hysterical trying to do everything to free his father, but his human limitations of needing to eat and sleep have never been more infuriating. So, he creates his own artificial stimulant that he called Varinium (after himself and Quirin,) which shares a lot of the same composition as the amber solution (not that he really recognizes the fact.)
It works a lot better than intended, one dose lasting him for three days, taking away his need to sleep, eat and drink so much, and providing a feeling of pure energy and euphoria. He becomes addicted to how it makes him feel beyond his 'need' for it, and it starts to leave lasting side effects.
Along side one or two more blue stripes, locks of his hair start turning green. His skin gains a sickly-cool pallor (my drawings are rendered images of highlighter sketches so the artistic colors are not all literal lol) and his eyes start to gain a neon green colouring. As well, from both the strain of the stimulant and not sleeping like at all, his mind starts breaking. Delusion, paranoia, and hallucinations begin forming, and he steadily becomes more erratic and violent. He becomes twitchy, and his mouth and eyes always want to stretch wide into a horrific smile.
All of this coupled with complete isolation and uncontrollable grief as he's stuck staring at his father's corpse, he goes insane.
The Masked Guards are a breaking point, as in his mind the graphtic is just a cover up for what they really want: his precious Varinium. He sets up deadly traps around his house and lab, and the next time they come around, it's a blood bath. It's unclear if anyone dies, but they all walk away seriously injured in some way.
Varian, completely out of control by this point, he revels in the violence and the safety it brings him once they finally leave him alone. Poor Ruddiger is terrified by this point, but doesn't want to leave his boy. He ends up hiding the Varinium from Varian, but this just sends Varian into a spiraling breakdown and he ends up screaming at Ruddiger. The racoon runs away, and Varian is left completely alone.
Now unrestrained, Varian begins formulating his plan to free his father. He sends the letter to Rapunzel, and flees his crime-scene-looking home after Ruddiger— he still needs him. The truth serum drugging goes about the same as well, if not more people being unnerved by him.
The main trio find Varian's home eerily silent, no guards or anyone, just destruction, blood, the amber, and several vials of Varinium. They pocket one to ask Xavier about later.
His meeting with Rapunzel to steal the Sundrop Flower goes both better and worse. Varian is in the throes of a high proclaiming his "Great Plan to Save Corona" and Rapunzel is completely on board at first, just thinking he was excited to finally see her again and get started. She quickly realizes something is super wrong with this kid when he starts giggling after almost dying several times due to the traps, practically throwing himself into them "to see if he can take it." This coupled with his weird greeny eyes, hair, and general unwell demeanor have Rapunzel being more cautious. Especially after Varian takes a hit from the Automaton that leaves a dent in its metal.
Varian still takes the flower, but the ensuing conversation is less "I will do what I must" and more "I will save Corona by destroying it by its corrupt foundations so that no one has to suffer under its rule like I have, and I will laugh Victoriously on the rubble of your graves!"
Yeah, it's bad.
While Varian goes back to launch his plan, the group decided it's time to take the Varinium to Xavier. He studies it, and explains that it's a stimulant that can decrease need for sleep and food, give the user energy, and cause a euphoric high. He also warns that the chemical makeup of it would make it highly addictive, and could start to harm the user if they didn't recover between doses. This doesn't explain how strangely durable Varian had been in the tunnels.
Back home, Varian realizes the flower is useless and crushes it. But doing so accidentally mixes it with a does of Varinium, which does something weird. The Varinium basically "refuels" the matter of the flower, practically necromancing the magic back to life as it mutates into the Varinium. Even Varian can't tell what it would do to him, so he keeps it as a last, last resort.
The reason the original stimulant has such a unique affect on Varian is because of his hairstripe, a physical mark made on him by his father coming into contact with the moonstone's power. On its own, it's completely inert. But the same chemicals that fueled a reaction with the black rocks were used in Varinium, causing them to react again with the moon's mark in Varan. Varinium gave the mark fuel, causing the magic in the mark to mutate and give him unnatural durability.
The rest of Varian's plan is the same as canon, he mutates Ruddiger as a distraction, kidnaps the Queen to lure Rapunzel in for her hair, and he builds both the regular and ultimate automatons. He is also defeated the same way, but everyone involved is much more terrified because of how maniacally crazy Varian is acting.
But when Rapunzel uses the rocks to stop Varian's machines, he realizes he has no choice but to take the flower infused dose.
When he does, the mutated flower's power and moon mutated Varinium react volatilely, and basically create a much much much much much much weaker and bastardized version of the heaven's united power inside of him that fuses into his very physiology. Now, his body can create the enhanced Varinium on its own when he feels agitated or stressed, like an enhanced adrenal gland.
It grants him enhanced durability, speed, and strength, that he quickly takes advantage of by breaking out of his ruined Automaton. (See figure/image 3 lol.) As well, excess energy from the mutated magic physically emanates from him like lightning, which at this point just makes him look really scary. Oh, and now he blond highlights with his blue and green :D
Then, Varian basically mops the floor with whoever's left, since at this point he has completely lost the plot and has totally scapegoated Rapunzel in his mind and thinks ending her will make everything better. Problem is, the rocks sense the abominable magic in him and are like FUCK THIS. They let Rapunzel direct them to protect herself and try and destroy the unnatural energy that's trying to harm her.
But Varian is able to throw her away from the rocks so she can't control them, but before he can land a finishing blow—
Adira steps in and slams him away.
She'd been watching the Sundrop battle Quirin's son, and she hoped she wouldn't have to intervene, but she couldn't let the sundrop die (or let Varian kill anyone else.) The thing is brotherhood members get the blessing of the moonstone when they swear in, so she is actually able to go toe-to-toe with the inexperienced Varian.
Varian is pissed, completely beyond reason. He only snarls and roars, pushing his body passed it's limits. Unfortunately, this causes a build up of Varinium in his body, burning him up from the inside out and causing him to cough the glowing green stuff up.
But before he can destroy himself to badly, Adira is able to restrain him with the help of Rapunzel using the rocks. He has a full on Azula-style break down, screaming and howling and crying and just losing his shit before he just starts scream-sobbing. Despite everything, Ruddiger goes to his side and comforts him.
The battle is finally over.
But when Frederic tries to take Varian away to prison Adira is like "fuck no. I do not trust you to be able to restrain him or get him the mental help he needs. You will make everything worse if you just try to throw him in prison, he'll escape and try this again and I think that's the last thing we want. Plus he's more a citizen of the Dark Kingdom than Corona, so I'll be much better equipped to take care of him."
And no one can stop her when she throws the now unconscious Varian over her shoulder and bolts.
Any traces of Varinium were destroyed by the Automaton crashing through the house, the last in existence besides in Varian is hidden with Xavier.
Things get looser after this: I want Adira to help temper and train Varian while she's still helping Rapunzel's group travel, keeping Varian away from them until she can get him to Hector who would now how to better wrangle his wild and unpredictable nature.
Varian takes a while to warm up to Adira, but after she helps him through a rage episode he starts to mellow a bit. He's also going through withdrawals because his body can now regulate how much Varinium is safe for him as long as he doesn't push himself, and he feels every bit of it since he isn't able to make any more without his lab. Without the excess stopping his body from sleeping and having an appetite, Varian starts to get a little better. His mind gets a little clearer too, and he is able to start differentiating reality from his brains delusions and hallucinations.
Varian is not and will never be the same after what he went through by his own hands and the actions of others, but he does get better little by little. But he is still absolutely crazy, off his rocker, and a total maniac— and he is more than content to remain that way. Because despite everything, he has never been freer, never had more autonomy over himself than he has now. And despite it all making him "dangerous" he would rather die than feel as powerless as he did in the blizzard. And sure he has some wanted posters— but they are objectively the coolest of any criminal around right now, so it's fine.
By the time he is sent to Hector, he has been following Adira willingly for awhile now. They split up so she can help the sundrop reunite with the moonstone, and Varian can distract Hector with his presence. Varian doesn't like to think about his former friends because he feels guilty on some level but he is also super super pissed at them and hates their guts.
Hector and him get along like a house on fire, and Varian is lovingly nicknamed "monkey" because of his tendency to crawl all over Hector during sparing practice and his screeching maniacal laugh that "sounds like one."
It makes the reunion with the Rapunzel's group at the great tree that much worse, especially when Hector pulls the spear out and Varian realizes maybe crazy runs in the family. Rapunzel's Decay Incantation also nearly kills him, because apparently the sundrop and moonstone hates his existence. Even more terrible, he wonders what will happen if the moonstone and sundrop reunite— if that will free his father or trap him forever. No one knows, and even though Adira asks him to trust in her that everything will work out as the group leaves, Varian and the still injured Hector follow from behind to make sure the moonstone survives.
Everything happens like in canon, Cass escapes with the moonstone, which is able to restrain Varian with rocks again while she escapes. He realizes this will be a problem, and endeavors to fix that ASAP.
He and the brotherhood reluctantly decide to return to Corona— Varian's the only one that can translate the scroll and Adira and Hector definitely need to keep an eye on him, and Edmund wants to bond with his son very badly.
The Saporians were able to do their little take over, but with Varian reluctantly on Rapunzel's side, they get their butts whooped real quickly. The king and queen are without their memories though, which Varian counts as a win. He's a troll about it.
Varian is conditionally pardoned, as long as he agrees to see a real psychiatrist and do community service for a year. He reluctantly agrees.
But freeing his father is something that terrifies him deeply. He'd turned himself into a monster and did heinous things, and the idea of looking his father in the eyes as the monster he is now strikes fear into his heart. He and Rapunzel end up talking, and she apologizes for leaving him alone for so long, and Varian apologizes for all of the awful things he did. Absolutely insane or not, he wanted to take responsibility for his actions!
When Rapunzel frees Quirin, despite his previous reservations he simply tosses the bucket at Rapunzel when the water doesn't work and leaps at his father while crying.
Quirin is... disconcerted when he hears what happened, but more than anything is devastated that Varian was so destroyed by everything. He sees moments of his naive child, but in general Varian is sharper, more menacing, and unsettlingly crazed. Adira and Hector help him adjust and come to terms with everything, grateful beyond measure that they were there to help Varian heal.
'Be Very Afraid' goes much the same. Everyone is absolutely terrified of Varian, since he was still wanted after the infamously horrific battle. He basically became Corona's boogieman, and people are way more concerned about him walking the streets compared to Cass. While stopping the red rocks with the amber solution helps, most people just opt to pretend he doesn't exist or cower away from him. Varian can't find it in himself to blame them.
While translating the scroll, Varian works on a side project that can transmute the stray energy around him into a weapon (he builds guns powered by excess Varinium energy that can theoretically break black rocks.)
Unfortunately, Cass shows up for the incantations before he can test it out. Things are probably pretty similar to canon, without his weapons Varian can't concentrate the energy enough to do anything to the rocks, and truth serum still works on him despite the Varinium in his system. He puts up a good fight though, and gives Cass flashbacks to the battle a year ago. She isn't exactly nice to him after that. But the rocks are still indestructible so he's captured, and Varian needs to get Rapunzel the incantation.
Varian tries to get through to Cass, but he basically ends up telling her that he refuses to let anymore innocent people be harmed to make up for what he did. And if that means taking her down, then he will.
When the others show up, Eugene brings Varian's energy gun, which allowed him to break out once Varian figured out how to use it for the first time. Varian fights Cassandra to protect Rapunzel while she gets the fourth incantation to save Eugene, but Cass ends up taking his arm off with a black rock since he's too inexperienced with the gun and its charge up time.
Cass is shaken up by this, and it really makes Rapunzel scared and angry enough to use the incantation.
Varian is seething when they return, and Quirin is both disturbed by the expression on his son's face and one wrong word away from going after Cassandra himself. As soon as Varian is released from bed rest he builds himself a new arm, and enlists Eugene's help to build as many anti-Cassandra weapons as he can. He trains relentlessly, and Rapunzel is terrified by the fact that the idea of a happy ending keeps getting farther away.
Ummm... gosh, most things happen the same? Except when Cassandra begins attacking the kingdom Varian is there and VERY excited to 1v1 her cause ooooh boy time for some revenge.
Unfortunately, he is pulled away from the fight by the brotherhood under mind control, which allows Zhan Tiri to return anyways.
Maybe someone tries to take the last dose of Varinium from Xavier? Idk.
And when everyone was "dead" Varian gets visited by some higher being that's like "we don't want anything to do with whatever 'magic' you got going on there, don't start destroying everything and you won't be bothered again" and Varian's like "okay sweet"
Then yeah, end of the show happens, and then maybe some Vat7K later idk.

But yeah, if it wasn't obvious I took some inspo from Jinx and the drug shimmer from arcane, but I tried to put my own twist on it. Also, didn't really think about green lighting and how I just practically ripped off MHA until I drew it lmao
You know Kara and Jimmy’s wierd relationship drama was funny for a while and if this were the 20 episode long season that it should be, I’d probably adore it, but because there’s only 10 episodes per season, the more it shows up each episode the more I can’t help but be like: “Baby girls, PUT A PIN IN IT! There’s more pressing matters going on!"
Being absolutely clueless about not mainstream Superman lore is so fucking fun. Everything is just flying over my head. Who the fuck is Kon and why are people so mad that he's not in MAWS. Is he the Clark/Lex clone? Is he really that special of a character? Who is Zod. Evil uncle situation? Is Lara a MAWS original? A character from an older Superman comic? Was there a reason that a turtle was the animal that Jimmy turned into? Or is it just for the laughs? Who knows! I certainly don't! And I'm having so much fun~ ദ്ദി(ᵔᗜᵔ)
There are multiple different Superboys in comics. Kon was the first Superboy. (Yes he is a Clark/ Lex Clone) Jon came about years later (He’s Lois and Clark’s biological son). They are two seperate characters but the show has combined their designs, personalities and roles within the story together. Both characters have their own fans and a lot of them don’t think this version does either one justice.
Zod is a bad guy from Superman Lore. In most iterations, he was a facist Kryptonian criminal. He and his followers managed to escape Krypton’s destruction by being locked away in an off world prison when the planet exploded. They manage to get out years later, end up on earth and try to take it over. People love him as one of Superman’s toughest bad guys and he’s shown up as the bad guy from more than one of the live action movies so he’s a pretty recognizable villain.
Superman has had LOADS of kids over the years in comics in different iterations. Most of them are from alternate universes or don’t stick around after reboots. They just don’t have a ton of staying power. Jon Kent is the only one who’s stuck around, but yes there is at least one alt universe story where Clark and Lois have a daughter named Lara. It was in the ‘Injustice storyline'
In old Jimmy Olsen comics, Jimmy gets transformed into a bunch of things. Including, one where he turns into a giant human/ turtle hybrid.

I know Lance has his fans. I know Adira has her fans. I know this fandom is big on shipping. How are we feeling about Lance and Adira? So far it’s been radio silence on the concept of their paring. Does anyone love it? Hate it? Or does it inspire no feelings either way?
Getting rid of Cassandra’s burnt hand was (one of) the show’s biggest mistakes.
That conflict alone held more tension than the entire Gothel plot held together. Imagine the trauma that comes from having your hand burnt to a crisp? And your best friend being the one responsible for it?
Yeah, me neither.
TTS had so much going for Rapunzel and Cassandra’s conflict with that addition. The emotional and psychological trauma on both sides could have made the conflict a beautifully complex situation, as nobody is fully in the right or in the wrong either. On one hand, you have Rapunzel. She didn’t mean to burn her best friend’s hand and leave her handicapped for the rest of her life. But that doesn’t change the fact that she still caused the injury, and she can’t change that.
Cassandra, on the other hand, bears the physical and psychological cost of the injury. She knows, logically, that it was only an accident. But she can’t separate Rapunzel from her trauma. This festers and leaks into their relationship for the rest of the journey, until Cassandra reaches the tipping point after meeting Zhan Tiri in The House of Yesterday’s Tomorrow (I guess the Gothel twist can be kept, but I would personally prefer to replace it with something else entirely).
I think that Cassandra’s burnt hand was meant to serve a similar purpose in the narrative, but after a while, the writers just seemed to drop it. Which only hurt the story, as we not only would have given Cassandra a legitimate reason to betray Rapunzel, but we could have gotten ACTUAL DISABLED REPRESENTATION FROM A MEMBER OF THE MAIN CAST!!!! A member of the main cast who wants to be a warrior, no less! Making the injury even more tragic for Cassandra and even more inspiring to see her overcome it.
Get rid of the Gothel twist. I never like it. Instead do it like this.
After Cass successfully takes the moondrop, She doesn't say anything to Rapunzel. She doesn't even look at her. She just runs out of there. We get a flashback to explain why she's done this.
When Zhan tiri meets Cassandra she tempts her with the promise of fixing her hand, giving her the kind of power that she never has to worry about being outclassed in battle ever again, and help her achieve the dream of being a well respected warrior. Cass is unsure because doing so would be a betrayal to her best friend, but Zhan tiri finally convinces her to do it by making her feel justified after all Rapunzel has done.
Rapunzel is left with no clue as to why Cassandra has done this, except to reflect on their friendship and how she can be a better friend. Also Cass chooses to ignore her guilt and wants to never see Rapunzel again.
We jump to some time later, Cassandra and Zhan tiri on their own journey around the countryside. Cass has almost everything she's ever wanted. She's traveling around, easily defeating threats to the various villages she comes across. She's powerful except for 2 things.
She doesn't know that her powers have side effects and doing things like activating the red rocks in Corona so she's unintentionally terrorizing her old home.
Her hand wasn't fixed. Zhan Tiri tells her that if she wants that, she has to continue to follow her instructions and gain more power. In reality Zhan Tiri has no ability or intention to fix her hand.
By the end of the series Cass has learned to be okay with her hand.
I found a PDF of Richard William's book on learning how to animate. I hope anyone who's interested in learning animation but doesn't have the money to pay for lessons will make good use of it.
I drew Rapunzel in sexy outfits. Just cause I wanted to. I had fun making these. Rapunzel herself loves to try new things. Maybe she'd like to try feeling sexy.
References used are Rapunzel from TTS, vintage pin up posters, and princess Daphne from the Dragon slayer games.
I also drew her with short blond hair. I know it doesn't make sense within continuity, but to be fair, neither do any of the outfits I put her in.

honestly, something that would have made the “i need to wait to get married” situation much better is if rapunzel and eugene actually separated.
-eugene is not creepy, but rapunzel has been indoors her entire life, and, even though he’s an incredible partner, she needs time to unlearn the abusive thought patterns she’s internalized. the expectations of a romantic relationship could easily be too much for her alongside all the demands of royalty.
-they don’t backtrack on the ending of the movie, or the exchanges of being each other’s “new dream”. they mean so much to one another that they can keep it platonic. eugene still lives in the castle.
-sure, there’s the audience’s expectation that they’ll end up married, but there aren’t any repeated proposals (because the “after asking and asking and asking” bit was a joke).
-THE WEDDING SHORT DOES NOT MATTER. let’s free ourselves from this belief! it’s a few minutes of slapstick comedy with pascal and maximus! we can easily imagine a better wedding, and it can include all of our beloved characters.
-shipping is an important part in fandom. even if a pairing is canon, it doesn’t make it inherently superior to any other one. if we kept rapunzel and eugene single for a while, the show could leave a lot of spaces for “what if” fics where they chose different paths instead. (we can still do that, but it’d takes less rewriting this way.)
-it would be very progressive (honestly, too progressive for these writers) to have rapunzel be friendly to other men that, if things were different, could have ended up with her. yes, there would be people online calling her a slut, but— once again— all she’d be doing is learning what she likes in a person. canonically, that’d still lead her back to eugene on her own terms!
-the plot line with stalyan would be so much more compelling. she’d get into eugene’s head, and he’d be worried he’s pressuring rapunzel by not moving on. meanwhile, rapunzel would despise herself for the jealousy she feels, and it would be much more believable for her to be convinced that he’s decided to marry stalyan.
-eugene and rapunzel going feral for each other and risking their lives to keep each other safe would be so pure. it already is, of course, but they have this unspoken conviction of this is my person, no matter what.
-we’d get to see them in the beginning stages of dating, which would just be “being cute and flustered + the strong foundations they’ve built already”.
‼️ if you disagree with me, that is fine. scroll and move on. i’m just saying that there is a way to write “relationship drama” that actually works to give both parties some more depth.‼️
I REALLY like this idea. I think it ties in really well with another idea I had for the series. That being, 'Eugene should have gone through an arc where he had to prove he's a changed man to the whole kingdom."
Here are some episode plots that could be used based off of your idea:
Eugene's past is used against him and he is framed for a crime he didn't commit. Rapunzel wants to prove his innocence but Everyone in the kingdom doesn't want her to because they're all convinced he's no good for her.
Eugene's friends from his teen years show up in town. Rapunzel wants them to think she's cool because Eugene thinks they're cool, so she becomes very susceptible to peer pressure around them, willing to do things that are a bit unsafe for her. Eugene is put off by their attitude towards Rapunzel. They're sure he's working an angle and planning something, and little by little it becomes apparent that he may need to protect Rapunzel from them as well as reflect on what kind of person he used to be to ever want to hang out with these guys in the first place.
Also plots where Rapunzel, being a young eligible princess should have to deal with suitors
Rapunzel is pushed by her parents to go to a 3 night long ball (Like in the classic Cinderella fairy tale) filled with eligible bachelors. The first night is a disaster and she feels so embarrassed. She goes to Eugene for comfort and he ends up giving her really good advice on how to be charming to get dates and it ends up working out TOO well. Now she has the opposite problem. She's too popular and she doesn't know what to do with so much attention all at once. She decides to skip the final night of the ball and instead hang out with Eugene in a local tavern to play darts.
Rapunzel is made to go out with a prince from another kingdom, who seems perfect until he reveals he's already in love with someone else; a commoner with a problematic past that mirrors Her and Eugene's relationship almost perfectly, with the exception that the prince and his commoner lover have known each other for years and are much more certain that they want to be together. Rapunzel goes above and beyond to help them elope. Both because she's moved by their story but also because she sees so much of her and Eugene's relationship in them.
A villainous suitor pursues Rapunzel in hopes of one day marrying her to become the future king of Corona. She's unable to pick up on the red flags he's putting out because she's grown up around Gothel and doesn't entirely understand that 'people who claim to care about you and also make you feel small' isn't normal. Eugene, who (up until a certain point), had been trying to stay out of it with the intention of giving her space, helps her to see him for who he really is.
Rapunzel meets someone that she gets along TOO well with They practically have perfect matching personalities and Eugene, after some digging, actually can't find anything wrong with him, but Rapunzel breaks it off with him after a while anyway. Her logic being "I've spent my whole life with just myself. I want to meet people who are different from me."
Eugene is forced into a situation where he has to do a secret heist with Stalyan. They have a lot of Chemistry and she pushes them to get back together, but after a while she sees what a changed man he's become and instead starts shipping him with Rapunzel.

Eugene: "I HAVE thought this through! You think I haven't run all the scenarios in my head? She could find someone new, someone better, but then I think, what if she's happy with those other guys? What if they make her smile? REALLY smile in that way that makes her eyes light up... That's better than anything. Even if I'm not the one to make her smile like that... For the first time in my life, I'm choosing to do the thing that I have NO IDEA if it's going to benefit me in the long run, but either way I can't picturing myself regretting it."
I still cannot believe they are gonna introduce Clark and Lois's daughter in next episode, like serioulys, never in a million years i thought they would actually do this. I do wonder if they are gonna name her Lara.
I'm excited to see it. Jon changed the future so I guess Clark and Lois had more time to have a second baby, AND THEN Clark is killed.
I'm imagining Clark being so excited that now he has TWO kids, until he comes to see how much worse things are.

The more pressing question I have is 'Why wasn't the other team ALSO in swim suits'? Glitsy's team wore combat boots. Mxxy's team had to run in Beach flip flops. You ever try to do that? It's setting them up for failure.
I've had this weird idea since we were talking: the rules of the adventureverse.
Basically any new DC Justice League member who has a adventureverse universe needs to follow a few set of rules:
1: they need to be as diverse from their traditional aspect as possible "I.e. Clark revealed he's Superman to both Lois and Jimmy earlier than normal."
2: a character with an adventureverse universe needs to have some inspiration from an anime.
3: said anime influence has to be at least from the late 1990's to 2000s from early to mid to late.
What do you think? About the rules I made up but are not real?
I like most of these rules but I don't think they need to restrict the anime influences from just one decade, especially when we could get a green arrow inspired by Lupin III
I think Eugene in the Tangled TV show gets off a little too easy.
Think about it. The 18 year old princess, who's sweet, tries to see the best in everybody, and has never had a romantic relationship with anyone in her life says she's in love with this guy in his 20's who's been a career criminal for most of his life, and who is pushing for them to get married soon.
WE the audience knows that Eugene is genuine and actually loves Rapunzel, but if I were just a random citizen of the kingdom I know my mind would immediately go to "Oh no, our beloved princess is getting conned."
I've said this before but I think that Eugene should have had an overarching goal over the course of the series and that it should have been to prove to everyone that he is good man now, who's changed his ways, and that he Rapunzel should get married in spite of being a commoner and in spite of him having a shady past. Just like Rapunzel is adjusting to princess life, he needs to adjust too, so that he can be considered respectable in society.
In the show, the only ones who seem to have a problem with him are Cassandra (mostly because his personality annoys her) and her dad, everyone else just takes him at his word that he's an honest man now.
Imagine this: He's been pardoned for his crimes, and through Rapunzel's insistence, he's invited to live at the castle, but everyone treats him with suspicion and is certain he's going to reveal his true colors at some point and do something to hurt Rapunzel.
The King and queen tolerate him because he brought their daughter home after all these years, and he does make her happy, but they also firmly believe the relationship won't last and in a few years Rapunzel will find someone much more suitable for her, like a prince, or a duke.
I would have loved to see Eugene really work for his own redemption arc from his past deeds as a criminal, and not just try and convince Raps to marry him, but to convince EVERYONE he's a good man who could make the princess truly happy.

Having said all that I'd love to know what kinds of episodes or storylines you think could arise from this idea.
how you think this would have tied in with other story/character arcs over the course of the show?
Would it be better if Cassandra just told him to his face at the start that she thinks he's just trying to con her friend and THEN watch as she comes around on him?
Maybe when Lance shows up in the series for the first time, he also believes Eugene's pulling some sort of heist by getting in the princess's good graces and has to convince his old friend that he's actually serious.
Do you think this would put even more of a strain on Rap's relationship with her father because in addition to everything else he doesn't trust her judgement on her own boyfriend?
What about plots where bad guys use the suspicion everyone has for Eugene to frame him for crimes he didn't commit?
Or episodes where Rapunzel is made to meet with wealthy suitors that Eugene has to compete with or sabotage their meeting?
Lois would be the kind of pregnant woman who couldn’t sit down and rest to save her life- and it’s almost as if she makes it her life’s mission to stress Clark and Jimmy out. Crib needs to be built? She’s not gonna wait until Clark comes home from saving the city, she’s down on her hands and knees grabbing screws. The cows need food? She’s out at the crack of dawn.
Clark and Jimmy do not know peace in those nine months
Yes, BUT also keep in mind Clark is the exact same. He LOOOOOOOOVES to help people. His partner is now carrying his child? You can sure as hell bet he's going FAR above and beyond to make sure the Lois and the baby are safe, healthy, and comfortable as soon as possible. he has it cranked up to 11 ALL THE TIME NOW.

*Clark flicks on the light switch, his face inches from hers. "Are you okay?! Is the baby okay?!"

Clark: "What would like?! I'll cook it for you! I'll get take take out! Whatever you're feeling! Are you craving something crazy like pickles and ice cream?! I can get you pickles and ice cream! I can get you a hundred jars of pickles and ice cream!!!!!"

In the half second it takes for Lois to sit down, Clark has put a cushion there for her to sit on. He does this EVERY TIME she sits down anywhere.

Also he's read a 1,000 parents books. Some of them are very concerning. Jimmy walks in to find him focused on the pages of a book titled '101 ways you could mess up and kill your baby: a guide for what not to do for new parents' There is horror in his eyes.
