a fun little doodle i did at my sister's request, featuring the gang from our what the hair canon divergence au! some unhinged conversation over supper one night resulted in us entirely rewriting the whole show based off of one question: what if the spectrometric press from the first episode hadn't been crushed when varian's boilers exploded, and rapunzel got to see the results of the tests?

well, what happened (we decided that the tests would tell her the truth about her hair and the black rocks like she'd wanted it to) is that it triggered a chain of events that sent the main cast searching for the moonstone WAY before the canon timeline. varian's villain arc was entirely skipped and they brought him along for the ride. we left hook foot and shorty out because we hate both of them and there's no reason for them to have come in the first place loL. the journey to the dark kingdom also became a desperate race, because king frederic was Not ready to be exposed yet, and all the parents ended up chasing after the main cast. and then the brotherhood got involved and omg. it's such a fun au and i will happily explain it all if anyone asks :3

I have come to the realization that Lance is the only truly good parent in Tangled.

#i don't know if this is anything really #i just think the characters and the writers should both appreciate lance more #and out of all the tangled parents he's the only one who loves his kids unconditionally AND MAKES THAT KNOWN TO THEM which is arguably the #most important part #and who will never ever put an agenda or a corrupt monarch ahead of his kids' wellbeing #not to mention he didn't have parents to teach him how to be a good parent. he is one because he knows kids shouldn't have to go through #life without love and support and because he is a kind person despite everything he's been through #and also he will protect his kids from danger while still treating them like humans with agency. a balance that no other tangled parent was #ever fully able to find (or willing. at least in most cases)#and i just think he deserves recognition for that #tangled the series #tts lance

first order of the court: what au is this??? haha lol u silly goose this is haunted hotel au based on—YOU GUESSED IT!!!— the haunted hotel series on netflix becos i like the 1700s demon boy

next : catalina is still a werewolf and that happened because something in the hotel cursed her and shes keeping it because funny ok? ok.

next next: why is varian-tiri wearing two different outfits (season 1 and season 3), and to that i say, good question i dont know why. i liked varians season 1 outfit because it makes him look more….. dead in this au but he literally has to be in season 3 for this to work so uhh imagine he just changed back to his old clothes or something in between getting possessed and now lol

see, i planned originally that in the final episode of tts, just before zhan tiri is about to combust or something, as a last ditch resort she just decides to take over the kids body and uhhh i guess SOMEONE (im currently staring at either the brotherhood or king fredICK) decided “hey i dont think we can fix this, lets just try and get the demon outta there by like ancient ritual power or whateva yolo lmao” and look what happened now theyre stuck together and immortal

THATS ANOTHER THING, this au is like a mixture concotion of multiple aus including: reincarnation, two minds in one body, and the general haunted hotel au.

to explain the reincarnation au, i didnt really want varian wandering through time over and over again because idk i didnt want to, so i made the idea that now he’s (they’re, actually sorry becos its zhan tiri and varian) immortal and has to continuously watch his friends get reborn and die and reborn and die and whatever and basically the land where the hotel stands on is where the og corona castle was i guess maybe they just turned the castle into a hotel sorry im not good at this

NEXT AND MY MOST FAVORITE IDEA: zhan tiri and varian share the same body basically. i know in the original haunted hotel its the demon that takes full control of the vessel but i counldnt make this au without my favorite boy so instead it goes like this: over time while zhan tiri is stuck in this body, her soul eventually begins to mesh together with varian’s so they have this SUN-AND-MOON FROM FNAF TYPE THING where Varian’s side of conciousness is awakened when something he likes is present (ruddiger, alchemy, whateva whatver) and the rest of the time its zhan tiri and her… whatever she does

also yes lance is dead im sorry he wouldve loved nathan from haunted hotel i think im not sure. and yes catalina and kiera know this, they are SOMEWHAT Fine with it because “hey, look, ghost dad” but at the same time they are not okay with it because “oh… look. ghost dad.” so thats why rapunzel and euegen and cassandra are there, not just to inherit the hotel of euegene’s dead brother, but to care for their nieces!!!!! yay!!!

also also i didnt know what to do about the cassandra rapunzel and eugene situation so its up to you personally ig to determine if rapunzel and eugene as a couple are dragging cass into this mess or its poly because uknighted dream lowk goated
