Ancient Greek marriages
Ariadne x Dionysus/ Zeus x Hera/ Hades x Persephone
Hera giving a speech at Zagreus funarel:
The whole Olympus listening to her speech:
Phobos: Dad?
Ares: Hmm?
Deimos: Are you going to eat us?
Ares: No sweet children why would you ask that?
Phobos: Because Granddad Zeus and Chronos did and...
Ares: Ah you see well unlike those two my head isn't nearly big enough to eat you. Plus you're too scrawny. Wouldn't be much of a meal.
Phobos and Deimos sigh in relief
These are the most underrated and kinda healthiest Greek mythology relationships (my opinion)
Eros and Psyche:
Eros disobeys his mother Aphrodite by falling in love with Psyche and giving her a magnificent palace to protect her. He hides his face to be equal with her and so she'll love him for him. When she breaks his trust, he leaves. Psyche goes through hell under Aphrodite, being tortured and completing impossible trial after trials to get her man back. When she nearly dies, Eros rescues her and literally flight romances her to the heavens, and has her becomes a goddess. They marry, have a daughter, and stay happily together as heart and soul.
Ariadne and Dionysus:
After Theseus abandons Ariadne, Dionysus finds her and falls in love at first sight while she is at her lowest point. He reveres her and makes her his queen, gives her a gorgeous crown of stars and a whole constellation, and turns her into a goddess. In some versions, when she dies, he literally speed runs to the underworld to bring her back and succeeds (sorry Orpheus) She shares his realm, they travel the world together and have many children. He stays completely loyal to her—which is rare for a olympian god. Did I mention the tricking constellation, take notes guys.
Menelues and Helen:
Off to mortal relationships now, Helen and Menelaus. Helen is married to Menelaus and despite sources saying otherwise, the two actually love each other deeply and had a pretty peaceful life together in Sparta before Paris came along and took her (either Aprodiote style or kidnapping her) Menelaus was fixed on getting her back, bringing almost every kingdoms, armies, heroes with intent on burning troy to rescue her. Now, despite everything—ten years of war—Menelaus fought through countless battles, watching many die, all with the goal of bringing Helen home. Helen deeply regrets going to Troy and longs for Menaleus. You’d think he’d be furious when he finally saw her again, but instead, he forgave her. They went back to Sparta and spent the rest of their lives together harmoniously which they both deserve.
And yet people consider Hades and Persephone the OG mythology couple when you have these beautiful relationships, WHY!!??
I have a lot more but can't fit all on here, might make a part two later
The Iliad is probably one of the funniest books I ever read
Like I'll be having a not-so-good day, then remember how Hector had given himself an entire pep talk to fight Achilles. He saw Achilles running full speed towards him and proceeds to just book it.
Or when Menelaus got shot by an arrow in like in an ultimately nonfatal spot, and Agamemnon begins prematurely mourning him while he's standing there like 🧍♂️” you're scaring the men.”
Or when Odysseus is walking around the camps with a royal scepter and is just beating people with it if he finds them packing or suggesting to leave.
Or when Hector is brainstorming on how to face Achilles and for a moment goes, “Maybe I could talk with him, we’re both princes, we can both be rational, I could reason with him… that's a horrible fucking idea.”
I have more, but these, in particular, really tickle me.
My Iphigenia art is coming together. Sorry about bad photo quality, this was the best one
Tele..
TELEMARKETER IS CANON!!
One day, I'm going to a write the illiad as a high school dodgeball competitions.
Here the first half of my cast
Achilles – MVP dodgeball champ, most popular kid there, rich, everyone wants to be him. However he takes the game. way too seriously and could wipe everyone out in seconds but refuses to because he too busy fighting with Agamemnon and deliberately benches himself while calling his mom (who is on the school council) to pout and complain. His team keeps begging for him to come back or they will lose, but he is not budging and they will have to find out how to win without him
Patroclus – Achilles’s best friend/boyfriend, everyone loves him because he's very kind and is a great player, but is mostly there to try and keep Achilles in a good mood. But secretly he is very competitive as well and puts up a good fight in Achilles place before he is taken out by Hector. Achilles does not take this well and wipes out half of the team, breaks a water fountain, chases Hector around while throwing balls at him and drags him around by his legs until he's forced to stop by Mr Priam. Patroclus is fine, just a broken nose and they cuddle in Chiron's class after
Agamemnon - Head Coach and leader of the Archeans clique. He is kinda good leader and Menelaus older brother who keeps saying that Helen will be impressed by him if they win this but is doing this to take down the Trojan because he hates their style. He can be a lil bitch who constantly starts petty fights with Achilles and pisses him off when he deliberately benches Briseis, Achilles friend, causing Achilles to bench himself which puts their team at a risk and they almost lose. However they win and Agammenon appluads himself on victory which even the trojan know is bull
Menelaus – Agamemnon’s brother, decent player, just wants Helen back (his ex and former cheer captain). Everyone makes fun of him for Helen running off with Paris. He's very good dodgeball player and almost wins the game at some point when he takes out Paris, but coach Ares is convinced by Aprodiote to keep Paris on and yellow card Menaleus instead. After they win, he and Helen reconcile and everything's good for him
Odysseus – Clever team strategist; not the fastest, but always has a plan. He is a favourite student of guidance councilor Athena who often has to help him. He organises stealth missions with Diomedes to sabotage the Trojan dodgeball plans in their locker room and steals their best gear. Will probably have a long detention and will be given many tasks and assignments after the game for breaking in and vandiliasing their stuff. He will have to hurry if he wants to get on his usual weekly date with his badass, but beautiful girlfriend Penelope
Diomedes – This man is a wildcard. Always a badass not matter what he does. He is also Athena's favourite student who she always helps out by telling him which students to look out for and which to go for. He and Odysseus are a single hell lit candle that will burn the school down one day
Will do the rest of the archeans next, including the trojans and the gods as teachers.
Athena and Hermes watching Dionysus and Perseus fight
Meanwhile you got Andromeda and Ariadne sipping tea under a canopy
Messy sketch concept art of Iphigenia for an art ptoject. It's coming together slowly
Patrochilles brainrot strikes again
Omg, this was so beautiful. The facial expressions, the angst, the imagery. Now I need to go cry
I like the idea of Apollo and Artemis being Creepy Twins as kids, Apollo freaking people out with his foresight and Artemis freaking people out with her feralness (Apollo was not, in fact, born with his tattoos)
Daenerys and a butterfly. commissioned made by @/I_Fbry on twitter.
Dionysus and Ariadne are definitely those neighbour couple that when something big is happening on Olympus (probs due to Hera and Zeus) they suddenly need to walk their pet leopards around or pretend to do some garden work so they can listen in. Dionysus has to usually send Ariadne out to listen in and report back because his eavesdropping habits are known to everyone and it will look obvious they are spying if he goes out. Ariadne always has stories for him when she comes back and they sit in their bed gossiping about it like teenage girls
Telemachus
Odysseus genes gave up mid fight as there is no winning against Spartan genes.
Telemarketer looks so much like his mum, it's so cute
a lil look at an idea for the final look for the cow island bit, when zeus rolls up im thinking of having the colour becoming grayscale to sorta emulate the storm. Also i cannot seem to stop drawing Eurylochus gently caressing Odysseus's face lmao
