I've decided that Betty White Kittyface going out into the hallway of the apartment every night to just sit there must be her version of forest bathing.

Just soaking in the vibes of somewhere (slightly) different than home that offers a new perspective.

And just like forest bathing, it can be interrupted by unpredictable wildlife (neighbours opening doors) on occasion.

Which then prompts a quick retreat to the car (back into our place).

Just vibing.

“Surge” follows 24 hours in the life of a man experiencing a mental break. 

It’s an intense film with a powerfully physical and emotional performance from Ben Whishaw. It’s urgent and frantic with a sense of danger underlying the actions of a desperate and unhinged man.

The same themes hold “Joker” (2019) together but here they’re a lot more real. It’s not glamourised and tied up with a comic book world. This is real life in a real place and it’s so much more scary for it.

If this is an arthouse version of “Joker” then it is vastly superior for it.
