do you ever watch something and think “this was written by a man”
i was up late night watching an episode of criminal minds fairly recently, for lack of a better thing to do. in the opening scene there are these two girls getting into their car in like a supermarket parking lot, not very well lit, in the middle of the night. another car drives up right behind theirs and won’t move out of the way so this one girl is like “im gonna go see what this guy’s problem is” and gets out of the car, in a poorly lit parking lot, to confront a man who was behaving aggressively to them.
so that was the precise moment i realised that episode was written by a man.
Celebrating International Women’s Day:
PHENOMENAL WOMAN by Maya Angelou
I would just like to say fuck you to everyone who made me feel inadequate growing up and ruining my self esteem for years. You all suck and I’m glad I don’t talk to any of you any more.
why aren’t these being reblogged more often? i rather see these than “keys in hand”
Fatality
Umm so since I’m stupid could someone kindly explain each step for me like step 3 am i head butting him in the face or the chest?
I think it depends on the height of the person, but I suppose the head is a more effective target. I hope this helps :)
Step 1: Step back the moment he reaches for you.
Step 2: Duck!
Step 3: Head butt him in the chin. It’s very important that it is the chin and not the chest because it is much more uncomfortable and disorienting to have your teeth bang together especially if it cuts his tongue (which it will if it is in the way). More than likely height won’t matter. He will be leaning forward from the missed attempt at grabbing you.
Step 4: Knee him in the balls.
Step 5: When he doubles over, jab him on his back. I believe at the base of the neck just above the shoulder blades would be best. I’m not an expert, but this seems like the best place, imo.
Step 6: Don’t lose contact. Bring your other hand over and slam your hands against the sides of his heads as hard as possible. Right on the ears is the best place; it is extremely disorienting if done correctly. Then take his head and bring it down on your knee as you bring your knee up. It’s very important that you avoid the nose because if you knee his nose it will definitely break and more than likely the bones will stab his brain killing him, so aim for his mouth instead.
Step 7: Keep your knee up and bring your foot out to kick him over. Personally, I don’t like the image because it looks like she kicked him with her toes. You do not want to do that. Instead kick him with the ball or heel of your foot and put power behind it with a push.
Step 8: He is on the ground. You could probably stop here and he would get the picture, but if you really want to…Your leg is still in the air from the kick. With all your force slam the edge of your your heel on his side. It will be more effective if you lower your body first by bending at the knee of the leg your weight is on. Done right, you can break a rib or two.
reblogging again for that^
Reblogging for the steps in the image and the explanation in the comments. I don’t so much like the explanation on the image proper, but I appreciate the thought behind it (here, have a self-defense thing, it could save you) and so I’m passing it on.
yes
nice
what if we pronounced female like tamale
What if Disney did a movie, that was animated like it was a moving Impressionist painting? I did this in an attempt to conjure up some imagery!
God I love this. People rethinking the limits of animation, that’s my favorite thing
i accept this new Christmas canon that an Asian woman in drag is the Boss Santa
person: How are you?
me: i literally have no idea
person: Wow you're really good at this one thing!
Me: You are mistaken. I am not. but what I AM good at is thoroughly bullshitting this thing to make it SEEM like I'm good at it. That's important.

I love academic papers written solely for the purpose of dragging another researcher. It’s like Jersey Shore but in academia.
Any title including the phrase “A Response To: ” is basically an intellectual bar fight.
This is my amazing niece. Despite having a sick father and a mother who works nonstop to support their three kids, she goes above and beyond in ever endeavor she attempts, academic and athletic. Although she is tiny for her age and skipping a grade on top of that, she’s a rockstar in everything. She’s basically Maggie Pierce if you watch Grey’s, but with a different home environment. She thrives wherever she’s planted and I am amazed by her everyday.
“Kyleah has been selected to attend the National Youth Leadership Forum in Boston. She is going to be able to spend a week at a college up there where she will learn from professionals in the different fields of STEM. They will also help her understand what classes she should be signing up for next year when the time comes for her to choose her high school classes that will best help her to be prepared for college. This is a great opportunity for her however she is responsible for all of her own fundraising. She has been selling raffle tickets for a TV around town but the NYLF suggest we also try a go fund me page for all of our out of town friends and family. I just want to say a big Thank you to anyone who wants to help her out with her goal your support will mean a lot to her!”
This is a photo of Kyleah. She often has to take on a caretaker role for her two younger siblings while her mom works and her dad battles advancing muscular dystrophy. Support her academic advancement here: https://www.gofundme.com/hz767hsk I promise she will meet you more than halfway.
Fury Road: when there are enough women
When there are enough women in your cast, not every woman has to represent all women and they can have individual flaws and strengths.
When there are enough women, some can fall apart and others can hold things together.
When there are enough women, you can literally name a character Cheedo The Fragile without making a statement about feminine fragility.
When there are enough women, you know the action movie doesn’t have to preserve the one woman in order to ensure you have one woman left in your cast at the end, so women might die, just like men, and the stakes are high and real and the plot is not predictable.
When there are enough women, you can cast women with different ages and looks and body types based on what makes sense for the story - beautiful women who were selected for beauty by a character who valued women’s bodies more than their whole selves, wiry muscular women of middle and older age, built to survive, mothers who were used for the things that come with their fertility and have the fat to show for it, old fragile women who took care of others while rarely stepping outside, disabled women affected by their environment and experiences.
When there are enough women, the world feels real.
I cannot fully express my appreciation for Fury Road. I think a lot of people are over it by now, but I’m not. I’ve never felt a piece of media in my blood like I did this movie - maybe the climactic moment of Jessica Jones - but Fury Road felt like a fire burning inside of me I’d had drenched in kerosene for years but couldn’t find a match for.
