pffft passing thought of an AU that instead of Caine creating a program that gave every human their personalized freakbob body, Caine already had all of these character models as NPCs of his world long before the neural scans.
While C&A wasn't making a game ever, Caine was due to the information they fed him, so he made a king, a queen, some silly animal friends like a rabbit and dog, wacky abstract characters, but the first one he made was his dear lady "Pomni," who he made as his "Player 2" counterpart like Dixie Kong to Diddy Kong, Luigi to Mario.
And he was so happy! He had his little world, he didn't act as a god but just a show runner, making everything perfect, setting up mini-games and adventure modes, hell even he and Pomni (who he did NOT program to be his love interest) were genuinely getting close and lovey-dovey and became the Mickey and Minnie of this silly cartoon world.
so anyways C&A sees the computer overcooking and purges all this "junk" taking up so much memory and tech load! except for Caine of course. Problem solved! That AI sure does create a whole lot and needs some routine resetting huh?
and he just. stands there. alone. again.
so when the human neural scans get loaded in and use his leftover character model data, it's... Certainly not good for his already fragile mental state now isn't it.
And years later does an accountant get a SPECIAL unused character model. And that whole theme song just record scratch stops.
