I didn’t realize how much I was here for a specific ship until I saw an edit of them and now they’re almost my main reason for watching S23 when it comes out .

But I still think if they weren’t there I would watch because I’m hopeful for a greys renaissance where things become way more interesting beyond recycled plots.

Nothing irrationally pisses me off like when people talk about old culture, trends, eras, decades, that they like, and get the info wrong because the internet has decided that’s what it was when it’s not. (And then some of them will fight you on it even if you would know because you lived it)

If in all your photos in your “I wish I was an alternative teen in the 2000’s” post, there are more than one photo of a skater bro or skate culture or skateboards, combined with the most photos of CDs and CD players, that’s not an alt kid you just want to be some guy in the 2000’s.

I’ve decided my top five Degrassi Next Gen couples. It’s such a hard list because half of them are so dysfunctional and the other half always end in heartbreak so this was so difficult.

(spoilers but this show is almost 26 yrs old so if you get spoiled and didn’t want to that’s on you)

5.)Becky and Adam (she overcame her family’s religious values and endured religious persecution just to be with Adam. It took her time to come to terms and accept him as him, but she went against her family for love and I have to respect that. Were they the greatest love story ever? No and also what Becky and his brother Drew did after he died was shitty as hell but in their prime they were sweet.)

4.) Claire and Eli (now LISTEN. They were both messy -although Claire’s messy wasn’t because of a disorder and Eli’s was- but they loved each other so much despite everything.)

3.)Ellie and Sean (and I know in general it might not have been Sean’s most beloved relationship by fans -I do like Emma and Sean I promise-, but he offered his home to her and gave up his bed so she didn’t have to sleep on the couch, and didn’t ever ask to share it with her even though there were no parental figures around. I think truly if Ellie was able to stay with Sean she wouldn’t have ended up how she did towards the end of her run -although she did have severe mental health issues so maybe it wouldn’t have mattered-)

2.) Connor and Jenna (genuinely one of the most solid relationships of the whole show. Not without their drama but I genuinely think they were the sweetest and Connor and Jenna both worked hard to understand each other. Plus the space date was so cute.)

1.) JT and Liberty (I think the question to ask is how people can just NOT have them as their number one pick?? Neither are my number one favorite character -much as I like them-, but these two loved each other so much that one of them died trying to get back together. She’s his oatmeal. They are the ultimate encapsulation of a good Degrassi ship and the writers did them so dirty and I’m still not over it.)

i think i tend to forget how good boredom is for creativity because we're all so addicted to numbing ourselves with screens and stimulation. but standing in the shower or going for a walk with no music or just sitting in your bedroom without being allowed to touch any screens & all of a sudden i have multiple new projects to start, a solution to a months-long plot problem & 4 new original characters

This also what’s crazy is I feel like people would do some of the things we do now TO get inspiration, or to think, or reset, etc.,(obviously the phone scrolling is a recent years thing with the advancement of, and subsequently the reliance placed on, phones.) they’d put in headphones or turn on a stereo with music to shake the stress off or clear their mind.

They’d look up articles on the computer in a much more intentional but yet sort of similar way to how we do it now with scrolling merely with the necessity of using what they know and what they want to know to find specific information. They’d talk with friends for hours, or as long as their phone limit allowed. And it would help.

Now we do those things and it hinders our already dissipating ability to think for ourselves.

We should all be reading Steinbeck. I had a period of not reading books and if I did it was fanfiction, so I’m trying to get my stamina back on words per minute and how long a book can hold my attention. Also I’m behind on what are/ are probably very popular books.

Just found an old fic I’d been writing forever ago in my notes app and I forgot I’d given Maddox the nickname that her parents (I think her mom specifically) call her, “Moxie” and I think that should be her nickname everywhere because what a good nickname I do not even know why or how I came up with that but wow I had really good ideas before I got burn out and stopped and lost some of my writing abilities.

Need to know if anyone else experiences that thing where, so like you know how some people think their thoughts in a voice talking? So like that but then the voice slows down like it’s in slo-mo and you can’t make it go faster and it’s like you’re thinking sluggish and you can’t stop it so you just have to endure it until it starts going normal again, at which point you will have probably forgotten it was even doing it and don’t notice it went back.

(Not like, how you hear people talk in slo-mo scenes, but more like the voice has physically slowed down and so the speech is normal but slow, and your mind can’t make it faster and you’re trying to think things out and you can’t and honestly maybe part of it is OCD for me because it won’t go back to normal until it’s completed it’s cycle. But maybe not.)

My annual reminder (or newly discovered information if you don’t already know!) that Brennan is as canonically autistic as you can get without saying it!

For those unaware of how this is:

She was supposed to be autistic from the beginning and it was supposed to be talked about directly by name, but the network didn’t let the creators say the words so as not to potentially jeopardize viewership (it was a lot more important back in the day when you had to choose to sit down for the premiere and carve your evening around it and then choose to keep watching), so they had to keep the elements and work around an offical diagnosis. The once the show got popular I suspect it just felt either too late or unnecessary for them to say it and confirm so they just-.., left it as something you know but never hear. Like it’s there but no one talks about it.

I think this works well though as it allows for her storylines to be more human led rather than being led by what people expect a diagnosis to look like. It feels more authentic because they had the restriction of not saying it. Brennan is one type of autistic, and some autistic people don’t have diagnoses, or they do and they don’t talk about it. In her case I think she was never diagnosed or no one who knew told her, which fits in either case with her families fake identity plot because scrubbing documentation would be something they’d do as a means to scrub their former identities.

It also works well for her because if they had said she had autism there’s a chance it really truly would have made people not watch. Some people like portioning out that a character is autistic or “a little weird” or when discussing a show they like/are watching “that one show with that odd fella”, as the characters quirks add to the enjoyment. But being told about neurodivergent people (especially in 2005, and earlier for other shows) by name of diagnosis makes it less funny, or cool, or relatable. Neurotypical people don’t like that. They like joking that the character is “so autistic” but only with the padding and safety of never having to hear it finitely in a canon capacity.

So yeah, it’s completely on purpose and that plays a part in what makes it good! (There’s a few other reasons such as Emily Deschanel being neurodivergent herself, which I could make a whole other post on, but this is part of it!)

I don’t know if this person wants me to @ them so I won’t in case but I wanted to include the tags they added because yes absolutely! In the Boneheads podcast that Emily and Carla Gallo (the woman who plays Daisy on the show) do through Lemonada media (it’s in hiatus rn and idk when or if it’ll be back but it’s great)

They did an episode with Hart Hanson as the guest and he confirmed all of this! I believe he’s said it before in interviews or a particular interview (and Emily’s discussed it in interviews too I believe) but it was brought up again because of course you can’t do a pod discussing Bones and it’s making with the creator as a guest and not bring up the makings of the main character, especially when her actress is part of the pods hosting duo.

But yes they have discussed it a few different times and I think that’s so cool! Such good representation, and at a time where representation at all, let alone female representation, was very scarce and I don’t think we truly got a written to be autistic female autistic character that wasn’t the temple granden biopic version of temple granden at all at the time besides the one in the movie Mozart and The Whale (which is controversially mixed reviewed but I looked at it through “presentism is bad” and actually liked a lot of it so to each their own, but I’d recommend watching it if you haven’t!)

You know what I just realised I miss most about the 2000’s? (By this I mean mid 2000’s-early 2010’s as I wasn’t consciously aware when I was born and at least 2 years after)

Tv. And I don’t mean the shows and movies specifically or the vibes they had. I mean I miss TV being a bigger thing. I miss having to wait a week to watch the next episode, and sometimes longer if they were taking a week off or a mid season break. I miss everyone (unless you had DVR/TVO and could record it for later and did) all at the same time experiencing the finale of a show, good or bad, and all collective having reactions to it at the same time wherever across the country or world they were broadcasting it. Carving out time in your night including driving time if you’re not home, housework, homework, responsibilities, all to make sure you could get the tv on before it starts. Not changing the channel while you wait to make sure you don’t miss a second.

It could have been the most disappointing finale ever and totally blow and upset everyone, but you’d be upset together. You didn’t have to know each other or know anything beyond someone else exists who is watching and being disappointed with me and I know because this is THE night, and that would be enough to garner connection within you.

I don’t know you but surely you must be out there and sharing my pain, heartbreak, love, happiness, or victory.

I think this is why I have such a strong opinion about people being glued to their phones at concerts or sports events because you’re not there. You’re filming it but you’re just as absent as the people who couldn’t or didn’t go watching your social media video from somewhere else.

(And it’s a little different than camcorders of all sizes because all they did was record or take photos too if they were higher tech and you didn’t have access to to much else and also you’d put it down to do the fun thing and be there because it used to not be as fun to be the camera man unless filming/filmmaking was your passion or hobby)

Did anybody else not see the magic in Matilda? And I mean truly, literally it could’ve been one of your favorite movies as a kid and you had no idea she had mind powers because somehow that part got erased from your brain or something? (Which isn’t magic it’s powers but it’s a word choice I picked)

Yeah idk if that’s a trauma thing or just an adhd thing but I was shocked, flummoxed, to learn the whole time that’s a big part of what the movie was about. It makes sense in retrospect because it was a kids movie and how are kids gonna be interested in just a story about a lonely girl with shitty parents, but somehow despite it being a beloved movie of mine I somehow lost that info.

The biggest Mandela affect for me is that for years (practically my whole time of knowing this song and I’ve known it since I was a baby/toddler, but I don’t know the first time I thought about it)

I thought Man in The Mirror by Michael Jackson was him doing a remade adult version of the original. I though for certain, I don’t know why (it wasn’t like a big deal either until I found out because I just had it in my brain as fact), that he’d sang that when he was a kid with the Jackson 5 and I remember this thought because I always thought about it in tandem with Want You Back and thought “those are my two favorite young MJ songs vocally”. I have relatives who love him so I’ve always known the song existed and I have no idea why I thought this, it’s so specific and odd because clearly obviously it’s not true at all.
