Open starter: Lost in Karazhan
With a heafty sigh, the servant showed her first deadwind pass, then the tower vision of Karazhan. Even when partially destroyed, it was still a sight to behold. “Goo…here…” It ordered with a hint of eagerness. For something that barely had a face, the beast almost looked concerned for the one who conjured it.
“Well, I was hoping for something a little more specific, but I can work with this,“ she mumbled, summoning the concentration she would need for the spell.
A brief incantation, a moment of stillness, and suddenly her insides felt as though they were being pulled out through her nose. For a moment, her vision allowed a glimpse of dark stone, but, against her spell design, she found herself spiraling. She had been deflected.
Apparently Karazhan did not appreciate visitors.
Were she not in the midst of a teleport-gone-wrong, Arydia would have yelled. As it was, she needed to gather herself before she ended up materializing in the middle of one of the mountains and remaining trapped in the rock for eternity. With a straining pull on her trajectory, the mage managed to veer herself into the forest instead, appearing in a gasping tangle of limbs a meter or so off the ground and crashing into the roots below.
Muttering profanities under her breath, Arydia found her feet and stared accusingly at the tower some distance away. Apparently she would need to find this archmage the traditional way: on foot.
Several minutes later, she stood at the base of the tower, eyeing one of the crumbling sections with scrutiny. She could climb up and get inside... but everything she knew about this places screamed that it was a bad idea.
Instead, she cast her mind out to the tower, seeking whoever may be inside. That proved pointless, as Karazhan scrambled her thoughts as efficiently as it did her teleport.
Left with no other option, the mage summoned her courage and climbed the rubble until she made it to the opening. Arydia stepped inside and decided it was probably best to refrain from using spells in a place that seemed so desperate to be rid of her. It was time for some good old-fashioned communication techniques.

“HEY! I ASKED YOU A QUESTION!”
Grim roughly gripped the mage’s arm, attempting to yank her back after she accidentally incinerated a fence-post.
“So close. Once more.”
He paces behind her. She indeed had potential. But it requires to be controlled, harnessed.
If she learned this, her potential knows no bounds.
A third time she tried, only to meet a similar result.
A forth time, and she finally hit the target. The wooden man was not missing most of his right forearm, the ashy remnants of the wood shriveling in the dirt below.
Arydia’s fist raised to the sky and she whooped, leaping around to face the strange death knight. Her grin shone with pride and gratitude, the mage practically vibrating on the spot.
“I got it!”

Open starter: Lost in Karazhan
Sometimes Khadgar wondered if it was worth fixing the place he once considered home. Ethereal looters and other unsavory types were still sneaking in to try and steal its secrets. TRY being the key word. If the monsters, demons and visions didn’t kill them, the random adventurer certainly would. The Archmage sighed to himself, shooing away the Violet Eye mages that hounded his steps as he scoured the broken library. He didn’t feel like dealing with their reports and theories, HE already understood Karazhan. Well, not as much as Medivh, but certainly more than they did. Khadgar could feel Atiesh react silently to being back in Karazhan. Despite the…clutter, Khadgar still felt an odd sense of familiarity there. Though admittedly, not all the familiar feelings were pleasant. Brushing a had through his hair, he examined a door he didn’t remember being there on his last visit. Then again, the book case that HAD been there was now fallen over and broken, books scattered everywhere. Looters, most likely. Nothing he could do about it now. Curious as to what part of Karazhan it lead to, the Archmage opened the door and poked his head through. He was pleased to find a winding stairwell and eagerly entered the previously hidden room. He didn’t consider that what he was seeing was a vision of how the stairwell looked in the past. Khadgar let out a sharp gasp as his feet found no floor to walk on. He reached out to cast the spell required to turn into a raven but he crashed into exposed wooden beams before getting the chance. He grunted as the wind was knocked out of him, falling in darkness before finally getting caught on something relatively soft. There was a soft “ksssssth” from the shadows, and Khadgar couldn’t help but curse to himself. Spiders. Why. Elsewhere, Khadgar’s lively Arcane Servant whisped into existence and made its way to the nearest being of importance. “The Archmage requires assistance…in Karazhan.” It hissed, potentially sounding urgent. It was always hard to tell with this thing.
Arydia paused mid-stride in the stairway, staring in mild surprise at the apparition. While summoned beings such as these certainly weren’t rare in the mage tower of Stormwind... this one was talking about an archmage in Karazhan.
Now, had Arydia been slightly more analytic, she probably would have saught some meaning behind the fact that the creature referred to “the” archmage. At the moment, however, she was more concerned as to why it was here.
“Assistance?” she repeated, looking the creature over. What mage was fooling around in Karazhan? Even she, a simple graduate, understood that there would be severe repercussions meddling in such a place. But then, she supposed an archmage would be a tad more qualified.
Setting her tomes down on the step for some other mage to find and so kindly put away for her, Arydia extended her magical senses towards the servant, seeking guidance in her teleport to come.
“Show me.”

“HEY! I ASKED YOU A QUESTION!”
Grim roughly gripped the mage’s arm, attempting to yank her back after she accidentally incinerated a fence-post.
“Good. Much better. But remember, not so much energy. In this case, you want precision over raw power. Try it again, with a smaller fireball.”
He paced back and forth behind her, as if he was a mentor.
Smaller?
Well, she supposed it made sense, with the maneuverability aspect and all, but... It's just practice, after all, she figured, and I can master it with larger flames later.
She repeated the process, paying special attention to the movement of the obstacles this time. The fireball was indeed smaller, and thus the spell was more flexible. Only, this time, with all her attention focused on the obstacles, she hadn’t been paying close enough attention to the target, and thus her fireball smacked into the grass and fizzled out but two feet from where the target had been at the point of impact.
She hissed, prepping her spell to try a third time.
Tag your oc who tries to be cool and not look back at explosions but fails.
You know the one.
Tag your oc who can’t be bothered to wear pyjamas when they go to sleep.
You know the one.

“HEY! I ASKED YOU A QUESTION!”
Grim roughly gripped the mage’s arm, attempting to yank her back after she accidentally incinerated a fence-post.
“Of course.” Another few minutes passed, before he did it again. There was now a rather large hole where the man’s sternum would be. “It’s all about calculating the path of your target. It’s not just enough that your spell follows them. You must be able to observe their movement and way of moving to maximize magical efficiency. Do this, and your mind will grow.” He sage nodded to her…before tossing another Felfire bolt, taking off one of that target’s legs. “Experience helps, too.” (( @mageonfire ))
Arydia whirled about, eyes flaring with a new determination. She focused on the target and surrounding moving obstacles, eyes tracking it as she had seen the death knight do. After several minutes, she finally managed to pick up on a pattern to the thing, even if it was a long and complicated one.
The mage watched it for several more moments, warm magic brewing at her fingertips. With a grunt, she hurled the fireball forward, her hands weaving a path through the obstacles.
And got closer than she had even gotten before. In fact, she was only two rows of jerking fake trees away from the target when one of the aforementioned obstacles caught the brunt of the fireball, sending the residue splattering harmlessly to the cobblestone.
“Dammit!”
