Name: Alouette Neyette Behre
Alternate Name?: Knygh, Alou
Race, Class, & Specialization: Human, Mage; Blood Magic, Force Magic
Varric’s Nickname for them: Lark
Default Tarot Card:
Judgement (Reversed) You indulge in self-doubt and self-judgement. Those aspects cause you to lose focus on what lies ahead and let you linger on darker thoughts, unable to move on to brighter times.
Judgement (Upright) Through meditation or quiet reflection, you may come to a point of deep understanding about the common themes throughout your life and what you can do or change to avoid these situations in the future. Judgement tells you that you are close to reaching a significant stage in your own journey.
After the first voayge to Val Royeaux, an operation to acquire an orlesian mercenary/informant by the name of Knygh is avaliable. Josephine can be asked to let her contacts come into play, convincing Knygh to join the Inquisition under the terms that she is provided information of the Behre family. She will not specify the reason behind this. If Leliana or Cullen approach the mission, Alouette will turn the offers made down and the Inquisitor will have the option to travel to a region south of Orlais.
There, Alouette can be found in an isolated tavern. Upon arriving, the patrons and the barman can be asked about her presence. They will attempt to avoid the subject or recommend that the Inquisition ought to move on and find other allies. After insisting the Barman answers, he will direct them to a room at the back of the tavern. Upon entering, Alouette is found on her knees in a corner, a tevinter slaver before her, seemingly attempting to attack her. However, the situation is resolved within a heartbeat, as the mage stands up, draws her staff impales the slaver with the bladed end. The Inquisitor can address her then, asking her to join the Inquisition should she wish so. Alouette will note that the organisation had caught her interest, and the fact that she was sought out personally persuaded her to join for a yet unknown period of time.
Where they are in Skyhold: On the Battlements most of the time, sometimes in Josephine's office, rarely in the library, near Leliana.
Things they Generally Approve of: Harsh justice; killing if justified, killing Venatori, aiding the Orlesians, aiding families in need.
Things they Generally Disapprove of: Injustice towards civilians, avoiding proper punishment due to sympathy, naive decisions, seemingly backing out of something.
Mages, Templars, Other?: She disapproves of Templars but has no fear of them; Circle mages are often ridiculed by her and she would poke fun at rebel mages, calling them 'copy cats'.
Friends in the Inquisition: Josephine, Sera, Blackwall, Iron Bull. Cullen and Dorian would be suspicious of her, and she would treat them more politely than the others, due to her understanding regarding their feelings towards maleficarum.
Romanceable?: Non romanceable.
Small side mission: Gather letters of orlesian nobility affairs
Companion quest: Plucking Feathers
Josephine will approach the Inquisitor and mention that she had found out about a Behre family matter that might concern Alouette. She will mention that the family had covered up a mage child years ago, and that said child mysteriously vanished. Alouette's interest in the family lead her to the assumption that she is said child, and that she ought to be informed that while digging around for her past, Josephine also found out about a planned assassination involving the Behre family.
The Inquisitor can either,
Option 1: Address the matter towards Alouette, who will mention that she had expected such development to occur and commence to ask the Inquisition to aid her in stopping the assassin.
If the Inquisitor agrees, they will travel to the Behre castle in Orlais. If not, Alouette will travel there by herself, later mentioning that she was unable to stop the assassination and avoid further talk of the matter.
Option 2: Avoid to inform Alouette of the issue at hand, in which case she will learn of the assassination at a later point and never address her family towards the Inquisitor again.
If Option 1 is chosen and the Inquisitor travels to the castle with Alouette, they will already encounter Antivan Crows miles away from the castle. Alouette will commence to grow worried of the circumstances and ask the party to hurry.
Once arrived at the castle, they can see no guards or servants upon entering, but instead run into another group of Crows. After they are killed, Alouette will mention that the family has a room hidden by the cellar and lead the party there.
The room will be found empty, aside from an abundance of notes describing the family's plans to murder the heads of an equally wealthy family. Alou will react as such;
"I grew up aware of the harsh decisions orlesian nobility had to make, but this is nothing that can be justified by blood. Let us hope that those plans won't end up drowning us in the such."
They will return to the main hall, where Alouette's parents are facing the assassin meant to kill them. However, said assassin is left bleeding on the ground, her father standing above him with the tip of his sword pointing towards his abdomen. Multiple cuts make it obvious that they had been inflicted purposefully, and Alouette will grow angry, accusing her father of torturing him.
He will call it self-defense, bitterly calling Alou a traitor and 'not part of the Behre family as it is'. Her mother supports these views, though hardly comments on the circumstances. After her father explains that the death of a rival family's heads is necessary, Alouette will ask the Inquisitor to help her stop her parents on the spot, unable to settle things on her own as the guards have entered the room as well.
The Inquisitor can either
Option 1: Agree to help Alouette, killing both her mother and father in the process. Alouette will commence to leave without further ado, mentioning that she is now the head of the family upon meeting the Inquisitor in Skyhold once more. She will also add that while she had wished the matter to have been settled differently, she appreciated the help and will support the Inquisition further with the additional influence she has gained.
Option 2: Refuse to aid Alouette, causing her to realise that she cannot take the guards and her parents on herself, and storming out of the castle. At Skyhold, she will mention her great discomfort with having left the situation open like that while an Operation at the War Table will allow the Inquisitor to interfere with the rival family's assassination.
Changed Tarot Card: The Tower
Upright: Disaster, upheaval, sudden change, revelation
Reversed: Avoidance of disaster, fear of change
"A mage rebellion? Most of them would be scared by a ram, those copy cats can not stand against the Templars lingering out there."
"They were reckless and sinful before the Order's fall as it is, their corruption and misdeeds can not be left without consequences-- I'd happily deliver the punishment."
When looking for something:
"Maker, are we going to dig through dirt again?"
"Let us make camp here-- lest you plan on dying of exhaustion."
When the Inquisitor Falls:
“Putain, aid the Inquisitor!”
When they are low on Health:
"I am not going to grow strong from this..”
"C'est de conneries, I'll make sure to tell Lady Montilyet you died bravely."
When during their small side quest:
"You have eyes, make use of them." / "How about I wait here, and you find more of those?"
"Ouai, what do you need?" / "..is there blood on my face?"
Travel Banter with Canon Companions of your choice:
Dorian:
"I am surprised I haven't dropped dead yet, Dorian."
"Realising your obvious magical mistake? Colour me amazed!"
"The looks you give me; I'm certain any other woman would melt. Alas, your death glare is too much of a smoulder to be of much use on me."
Iron Bull:
"I heard you dealing with that drunkard at the tavern the other day. Nice going."
"Merci. I thought he needed to look back onto his decisions and realise his own mistakes."
"Didn't know turning his drink into blood was a typical part of helping someone revise on their mistakes."
"Let's say I improvised a little, shall we?"
Sera:
"Did you hear about the Detagnes?"
"Lots of bullshit that, all 'wohoo we got big castles and tiny manbits!'."
"Their castles aren't as big-- their private bits, however, are."
Laughs. "No breeches, huh?"
Amused. "Not when I visited."
She will mostly address the Inquisitor as Lord/Lady [Surname]. If her approval is high enough, she will address them by their first name and will inform them of her family before her quest is started.
"These people have faith, do not let it go to waste."
"This seemed far more appealing last time."
What the Fears look like:
Mabaris. They're going to be mabaris with bloodied teeth and dark red eyes.
"A little girl ran away from her home. Do they know what you did? Would they let you return? Don't fool yourself; they will see you for the monster you are. You never even struggled against it, the demons put no effort in claiming you."
Their reflection about the Fade:
During the quest, Alouette would poke fun at some of the demons or throw about light jests, though she will later admit that being there physically unsettled her, and that she would rather not think about it.
She has no opinion on the matter; a life lost is a life lost.
She would agree that their situation was special, and that while she could understand that they were scared, blood magic should not be taken into consideration without thought, despite her being a blood mage. Overall, she is understanding of their situation but not of their deeds.
Allies. She considers them a strong force that will aid the Inquisition. Allying with them also gives them the chance to make up for their mistakes, and she thinks it necessary to grant them that chance.
Slightly nervous but also slightly happy.
Standing amidst small groups of nobles, chatting.
Are they good at the Game?:
She is very good at it, and takes joy in playing along.
What people say about them:
"She has the posture of a lady-- I wonder what family she hails from?"
"I saw multiple Chevaliers asking her to dance earlier, all of them leaving with rather unsettling faces."
Gaspard, Briala, or Celene?:
She has no opinion on the matter at hand and agrees with any route taken; the Game itself interests her more than its outcome.
Magic is strong, particularly that of the elvhen; she mentions slight knowledge of elven culture, and recommends to do the rituals.
Agree with the Elves’ bargain?:
She holds no right to disagree with them; their wish should be respected.
Morrigan or Inquisitor for the Well?:
She will have no opinion on this matter either, though she will make sure to mention towards the Inquisitor that they cannot be certain in what way drinking from the Well may affect the subject in question.
Next to multiple nobles, dressed in her usual equipment.
Last Remarks: "You have changed more than I expected. I thank you for having me-- and for doing what had to be done."
Do they choose to stay or leave?
If she killed her parents, she will leave and become the head of the family. If they were killed be someone else/spared, she will stay.
