Can someone explain to me how the FUCK Elspeth’s weapon works? In one picture, it’s a sword, another it’s a lance, another it’s a fucking long sword, how the hell does this thing work?! What the fuck IS Elspeth’s weapon?! Can it just magically change hilt length? Does it honestly matter how long the damn thing is? I’ve been wracking my fucking brain on this for months!
3.5 omniweapon.
Uhh.. can I get an english translation on that one?
In 3.5, there’s an item called an omniweapon. It can transform into a mundane version of any weapon. Of any size. (My favorite uses are a fine dagger and hide it in my glove and colossal quarterstaff to make a bridge.)
i mean iirc she got it as a sword, then during theros she offered it at a temple of Heliod and it got changed into the spear as she became his champion? (See the art of Gods’ Willing)
lore time!
Elspeth originally used a boring, generic shortsword. When she first went to theros, it was when Heliod and Purphuros were having their big(gest) kerfuffle. Purphy was all “fuck oyu heliod youre not my real dad” and swinging around a doom sword and generally causing a ruckus so kruphix slapped it out of his hand was like “you cant do this my dude.” and purphuros was all “im gonna make another” and kruphix was like “make another what” and put a 10 minute timer on purph’s memory so he couldn’t make more nyx-rending swords
meanwhile after getting disarmed the sword fall thru a hole in Nyx made by said sword-waving asshattery and it landed on a mountain by elspeth and she was like “damn free sword” and took it and left. ~10-20 years later she ends up at Theros again and goes to a temple and is like “heliod pls let me not be a major character anymore” and heliod is like “HOLY SHIT thats purphuros’ badass sword” and she’s like “oh did you want it back” and he’s like “no but watch this” and stretched the handle out so it’s a spear but the point is an entire goddamn sword and heliod is all “this is My Weapon youa re the champion” and elspeth is like “um its just the sword with a long handle” and hleiod is all “no it’s a SPEAR not a SWORD get it right this is my ORIGINAL CREATION © TM HELIOD THE SUN GOD 20″
10/10 best post

DOUBLE-FACED CARDS RULES CHANGES
“1. Converted mana cost
Remember when I said that the characteristics of the face that’s up are all that matter? That wasn’t quite accurate. Under the new rules, the converted mana cost of the back face of a DFC is based on the mana cost of the front face. (Previously, because the back faces lacked mana costs, their converted mana costs were all 0.) The one exception is if something is a copy of the back face of a DFC, its converted mana cost is 0. So If I control Insidious Mist, it has no mana cost, but its converted mana cost is 4. If I then put a copy of Insidious Mist onto the battlefield, that copy’s converted mana cost is 0.
2. Entering the battlefield transformed
A few effects can put a card onto the battlefield transformed. This means to put it on the battlefield with its back face up. Starting with this set, we have a new rule that if you’re told to put a card that isn’t a DFC onto the battlefield transformed, it just stays where it is. This may affect a few cards in this set, but I think the Magic Originsplaneswalkers illustrate the change nicely. (This is code for “The cool cards in this set I could use to illustrate this haven’t been previewed yet.” I know. I feel the same way.) Say you control a Clone that’s copying Jace, Vryn’s Prodigy, and you activate faux-Jace’s ability with four thousand cards in your graveyard. Well, four thousand is “five or more,” so faux-Jace dutifully exiles himself. Then he tries to return transformed, but in exile he’s just a single-faced Clone. He’s not a DFC, so he gets detained at the border and remains in exile. I hope the card you drew was good, because this wasn’t a great play otherwise.
3. No flippy-floppy
I’ve saved our most technical change for last. Here’s the new rule: if a DFC has an activated or triggered ability that transforms it, that permanent transforms only if it hasn’t since that ability was put on the stack. What does that mean? For example, say you activate Elusive Tormentor’s ability, then you activate it again in response. Why? Because you want to discard a lot of cards. Why? We’re almost there. Relax. The first ability to resolve will cause Elusive Tormentor to transform, as expected. But the second ability won’t, as Elusive Tormentor has already transformed because of the first ability.”

Want to know about Avacyn’s history and future as we dive into MTGSOI? You are in luck!
I take a look at our favorite archangel and ask why she is so upset on return.
All the Avacynfo you need for our return to Innistrad!
Everybody has their Shadows Over Innistrad predictions and have never asked for mine.
This is just something i noticed, but there is one place where Wizards falls flat on Diversity: basically no one wears glasses. Geralf and other Innistradi alchemists wear weird magnifying headpieces, but no one in the entire multiverse appears to have bad eyesight. Just a thought i had.
Damn you Wizards! I can’t properly cosplay until I start wearing contacts again.
Excuse you, they care so much about this that they created a character with two heads, just so he could wear his glasses AND his sunglasses!
Without two heads to wear those two pairs of glasses would Urza have been able to defeat Phyrexia? I think not.
Jinkies!
I like the implication that the Mystery Machine is powered by the dark secrets of Phyrexian technology.
